    My father recently passed and in his belongings I found pictures of this car from back in the early 1960s. My dad was an engineer and after researching this car I found out that Jim Hall also had an engineering background. Its amazing that this car still exists and kind of brings me closer to my father's youthful years. Thanks for posting this video because now I also know what it sounded like the day my father took those pictures.

    Hall also raced a Chaparral that had an automatic transmission. He even made a commercial with it at Riverside Raceway..about a zillion years ago.

    I hadn’t realized the original Troutman and Barnes Chaparral still existed. I would have thought if it was it would be in Jim Halls Chaparral Museum. Wonderful to see it in all it’s glory, sounds terrific. One very historic racing car! Thanks for sharing!

    There are only a few "racing cars" that are the best the US have fielded they are but not limited to the Corvette, Chaparral,Shelby Cobra,Ford GT and all Mustang and Camaro variants. This video was a great showing of thoroughbreds I especially liked the Watson Indy Roadster.

    A rare treat indeed! Not sure if Hall has this tucked away in Midland, TX separate from his 2 lineage.

      No. Five chassis were built, with two being owned and raced by the "factory" Chaparral team. Jim Hall does not own either chassis; all are in private hands.

    @iceteaguy- It really bugs me when people think the GT40 was American - built in England and raced from England.

    • @bbb462cid
      @bbb462cid Před 4 lety +1

      By that logic, Toyotas built in the USA and driven in the USA are American cars, not Japanese cars. GT40 took a lot of design and engineering from the Lola. But it was a Ford car. Ford is a US car maker. The P-51 was also not a German aircraft just because Edgar Schmeud was German. Similarly, the AAR Eagle F1 was a US race car despite the collaboration with the Brits and the name being 'Anglo-American Racers".

    High School buddy of mine (Don Baskett) bought a Chaparral Mk 1 in an auction. I had the hood stored at my Mom's apartment in Costa Mesa back in the late 60's. Wonder if this is that car ..

      No. Chaparral 1s were manual transmissions, as were the early versions of the Chaparral 2s.

    A "318 ci Chevy engine"? Is it stroked? I'm surprised no one commented on this.

    • @andykerr3803
      @andykerr3803 Před 2 lety

      Don't laugh, I thought 318 Chrysler. But of course they did seems to pump up the stock motors. At that time the Chevy would have been 289-302 max. Now they go to 425 easily with good reliability. The heads are definitely Chevy small block. With that original paint I'm sure it was also built as a 318 and they kept it exact.
