- The 4th annual Single Fin Classic surf contest, with some of the world's best surfers competing at one of the most iconic waves in the world, ULUWATU. The greatest weekend of surfing in Bali for the year and well known as the greatest surf contest in the world.
Following Rizal Tandjung as he acquires a vintage 7'2" Gerry Lopez Pipeliner from the iconic surfboard brand, Lightning Bolt. The catch, the board is finless! Will Rizal be able to get the right fin and get it glassed on in time for his heat? Many of the surfers have also never ridden a single fin before, how will they perform? It was a solid 4-6ft swell and pumping with clean and epic conditions for the whole event. As a true single fin era world wide surfing explorer I was a little late in arriving from Hawaii to surf heavy Uluwatu - my first go-out there was on a 15'+ day in mid 1979, and the Bukit was still deserted, open country. I rode my 7'10" Tom Parrish Lightning Bolt & I was the only guy out all day. Back then I needed to search around Kuta to find any guys willing to take the long trip out there, always an all day dawn to dusk ordeal. You have no idea how easy you have it now...OM

I really enjoyed that. With that much talent you guys and gals could ride on doors and still get tubed. I first rode ulu in '82 on a single fin. It was pure bliss for me. Such a great place and a great wave. With the best local people that took good care of us. Thank you again.

Great Video, 2 years ago I lived 4 months in Ulu (right next to white monkey surfshop). This video took me back, seeing all the places where I went to every day. I hope to be able to come back soon yeeew.
Kribo also fixed a giant hole in my board I kicked into with my foot after I went over the falls at Bingin, I thought the board was done but he managed to make it as good as new.
Long lines, big sweeping turns. I could watch THIS all day. Modern surfing does nothing for me. Not to say I don't appreciate the skillj. I do. What a video.this. 16:20 of silent meditation.

Single fin you need to stand closer to the tail!!! Grew up surfing with Gerry at Ala Moana from the early 60s, long boards, then the transioned to Shorter Single Fin boards!!! Rode only Lightning Bolts Exclusively!!!

Reached So Deep, right next to the Foam Ball , as I was coming down the wave I looked in front of me and the whole wave had pitched and was already broken about 15-20 yards ahead of me, the wave was pulling my Board up Backwards!!! Had to inch up slowly till I reached the bottom I was standing on the bottom inside looking all around me, was like I waa standing in a Warehouse, I was so deep I could not see the Opening of the Wave, I just kept on Gliding until I could see the Opening of the Wave...I made it I came out!!! The Power of Riding Lightning Bolts!!!

@@indomoment_tv I only surf with single fins from the 70's. The one I use the most is a red 7'10" shaped by Buddy Dumphy, Gery's friend. I also have 3 Lightning Bolts from the 70s, 2 were shaped by Gerry. I have more boards... Those were amazing times! So nice to see you guys with single fins there! Thanks for sharing!
