New vs Old: Test driving a Scania 140 and a Scania S 730 V8

- With nearly a half century between them, it might not be a fair comparison to put the Scania 140 up against a brand new Scania S 730. Though we thought it'd be fun to do it anyway. We invited four veteran Scania drivers to the Scania Demo Centre in Södertälje, Sweden, where they got to drive and compare the two trucks head to head.

Old : The power of V8.
New : Just enjoy your truck driving.
The new one has an v8 too. And I think much more power as the old one...
@@kl0br1ll3 but its not that kind of driving anymore.
@@tobiasmetzger4522 so more comfort is a let down for you? You're driving a heavy semitruck. Easier driving should be necessary for these vehicles.
@@johncarlofernandez2698 its as easy as today for me. The only thing i miss when i drive our old ones is a cruise control. But the sound definitely makes up for it
@@tobiasmetzger4522 vehicles to work, listen the loudness engine sound inside all the day not the best confort shit.
2:16 *OOF*
The norwegian man is scared or😂😂😂
Kkkkkj
That was some big Oof right there
One of the VERY few youtube videos I liked from the first frame. Nice, quiet, no stupid music, very nice people. And thank you Scania for no "corporate apparel" and not trying to push marketing too hard.
Any Euro Truck Simulator 2 player?
no

Hi!
The old one sounds better... Damn that roar😍😘
Ya it's louder
Straight pipe the s730 and you will have the sound...
@@MacJorma You dont have the same sound. Because Euro6, Electric engine and 16 litre engine
@@fordsonman electric?
Louder engine doesn't mean more power
Nothing beats the roar of an old manual V8!🔥
That beautiful old 140, from the days when the science of aerodynamic testing was 'take a brick, put some wheels on it' job done!!!!
The look on that old guys face when he drove off in a truck he hadnt driven in decades was priceless, he was grinning away, must of made his day
Its good to see these drivers never blame for new technology. great work Scania Group
What a great video! Love how you showed the older generation how far Scania has come. Scania all the way.

I still want a 143.
f4ntom me2
Nothing beats a manual transmission and the load roar of an ole lorry engine
Me tooooo a 143M V8 500
@@notsamsamsucks3586 drive casually? Agree with you. Do that for a living? I would rather drive a newer one.
Vitor - I like the sound because you can actually hear it
Old one is fun for a day, new one is better for driving the other days of the year 👍🏻

But for classic machines collectors, the old one is a gem.
Isso que é respeito. Trazer para o teste quem realmente pode contribuir com maestria nesse comparativo. Parabéns, Scania.
They made old men happy at the end of their lives. They could rejuvenate for a while. Both in an old car and in a new one... It's nice to make old people smile. They don't have many joys in life anymore. BIG thumbs UP !
Scania 140: That sound!
Scania S730: Okay...
Here's a tip to get good V8 sounds on the new ones: big exhaust pipes without the muffler.
Never knew that
@@basmuis7812 ye, have watched a few vids of it.
Modern Scania V8 sounds sweet with long pipes and without muffler. Not too loud, but powerful sounding.
Rumbling loud trucks are good for truck shows. Driving one for 50+ hours a week you want peace and quiet in the cabin.
@@ric84 that's the good thing about Scania V8s, they sound powerful, but quieter than other comparable engines (plus modern cabins helping to reduce noise).
@@Jan_372 Still, the least amount of sound is preferrable. Being a petrolhead i like the sound of a big fat v8, litrebike or italian supercar just as much as the next guy. However when i'm working i want to just be able to listen to listen to the radio without having to turn it up to drown out the noise of an engine at a constant rpm.
Seeing how we have to drive trough towns and city centres a lot aswell (as many euro truck drivers have to) at all hours of the day i think the people trying to get a good nights sleep agree with me too.
Fantastic video! Old truckers meet new trucks!
Nice to see old school drivers giving there opinion on the new trucks!!
Say all the best for old and keep driving new! Thanks for sharing
*oOf!!* 2:18 . And. Nice job scania. And all scania models never look bad. (thats why i like scania)
Arabian agya don’t forget Mercedes, Man and Iveco also Volvo they all have amazing model trucks but I say scania is my favourite as well
Scania still the king
@@SoggyToast506 and DAF
I’ve been fortunate enough to drive a new gen 😀
What an amazingly, satisfying truck to drive.

Amazing lorries. My father loved his R340 and R380.
awesome video again
Wow, what a beautiful truck.
Já trabalhei na Scania 141 e 111 era boa demais imagina essas novas
I got a ride in a Scania S730 V8 and that's definitely worth it if you're a big Scania V8 fan! It's quick to accelerate and it's quite comfortable to sit in too. No wonder Scania writes this is a first class truck ... and four steps up and into the truck is some getting used to. But when you get in there you instantly feel the luxury of the truck. Not to forget that power of the monstrous engine it got.
Love the sound of the newer Scania in Euro truck, don't have the license to drive one for real, but going in an old T4 model or the new S/R models the sound is quite different, just like the Volvo FH16 classic and the newer FH models, the 730 one is a nice beast, and since i play in a game i can buy as many as wan't :) love the sound when you let go of the throttle in one.
Such Great guys 👍
The 143-500 was a flyer..I still miss it today. The nicest Scania ever for me would be the R series, any one, but especially the big power V8's..
I drove a 2 year old Scania tipper a while back and couldn't believe how nice it was to drive. Was on another level compared to Daf or iveco.
Definitely one of the most beautiful trucks today
Very good , fantastic!
Both are beasts with time
Wow Beautiful Scania!👍💪
when i go on the scania website i cannot configure a truck over 450hp what is this please help
What a great video Scania
If only Scania made Vans....???
Scania 140 v8?

Yep thats rite bud up scania up and up scania rock simply the best
Estes senhores deve t sentido saudades dos tempos bons 🤙🤙
OLD TRUCK EVERYTIME NICE 🤩
I'd still have a 143 over anything made today, perfection.
I don't believe you
I'm guessing you've never driven one of the American trucks, it's amazing just how much nicer they are to drive simply becuase you're not sat on top of the engine
Wet Lettuce they're horrible. No
My hubby works logging and farming and drives a 142h 450 v8 and a 143h 550 v8 happy days ofttendragging a kenworth through the snooty tracks
@@C20F America doesn't make them. Freightliners, Western Stars, and Macks are manufactured by Daimler AG. Kenworths and Peterbilts are manufactured by Paccar.
The old one sounds so good
Podem falar o que quiser... mas o castanhado do motor 110S e MARAVILHOSO!!!
still dream to drive 143 & 164....
Funnily enough, the 143 is the first thing people get to drive at my old school. Man, what a beauty she was.
I have 113M 360km :D
Those are the 2 best trucks ever
The old one is like the backbone that all new models were based upon and with the way the technology changed every little aspect on trucks you would expect those "veterans" to be sceptic, but they weren't after all.
Scania name is warranties you seat behind the steering wheel of a luxurious vehicle, comfortable, safe and user friendly as possible tool for daily work. V8 engines with their wonderful sound make the experience even better.
Old but gold
Voilà les anciens qui se remettent au boulot 👍👍👍❤❤❤😅😅🙋♀️🙋♀️
Its a LEGEND truck
Is the 730 engine available with a manual transmission?
Que camión tan chimba!! Ese porte y elegancia !!!
Good to see you’re still going strong Micky, we used to work together at ACH.
Belo vídeo. 👍
I am still enjoying old V8 sound at the roads !!! and we have a lot of them in Greece !!!
Beautiful sound, but throws out a lot of toxid things in the air locally
Beatyfull machines congratulations
Old skool every time !!
old times very beautiful
Long live the old and new kings of the road
Mdsss um s730 no chassi rigido será se tem pressão ??
Eita, mudou foi muito, e pra melhor, muito lindona, top de linha
I'll take the good old little 140 on the left please, style with sound.
Although my fave would be a t143 500 or 144l 580.
My buddy Scania. 😍
Old but Gold.
I'd love to go to the museum but it's in Sweden
We had a an old scania from the 80s in our company (Tevo) until it broke down lol
Wow what a twist. Never would have guessed a new truck is easier to drive than one 50 years older
Top !!!! Likeeeeee!!!!
I Still want a 144
I love the old trucks
Let the gents go again!
At least most of these old drivers knew how to fix the 140, presumably the current drivers who drive the later versions don’t know how to fix any of them 😀
No ofcourse not its filled with computers, something you just cant fix on the road!
J D that is what I said, no current drivers know to fix either of these trucks. The old ones know the old trucks and know how to keep them going.
What is the difference between Stream Line and Top Line
Topline is a cab and Streamline is like a trim.
Legends
Not only the old guys want to have that v8 sound
its been my dream to drive the scania
of course i want 140
I thought that this was Euro Truck Simulator 2 gameplay video by thumbnail🤣
If you like to really drive a truck, you like the old ones ❤️
Thank you#SCANIA
Please add a Yoshimura exhaust and full flow open pod KnN filter to that old uncle 140 and watch her rock and roll ABBA style!!
When was Scania 1 series introduced?
1975
all the drivers want both of them
Please bring this Sounds to ETS2. :D
Hi
What mean that (vis) in scania 2004
OLD IS GOLD.....
Great trucks, especially the old LB 140 ! Sounds like an old Mack-Truck. No wonder ;-) ... Gruß aus dem Schwabenland
It’s my dream to drive a SCANIA truck
old end new very beautiful.
The 730 is absolutely a refined beast of its trade much more clean and easy going. But the 140 is exactly what brought the trade where it is today in its time a powerhouse to be reconed with, raw power and torque. My kinda truck
Nice;)
Comfort >>>>> Memories
And the scanias were leaps ahead of the likes of aec , erf etc of the time ! So coming out of an old british truck into the 140 was almost like the same as coming out of the 140 into the new scania
Scania trucks are really powerful and safe, I used to drive a scania 420 with a mounted huge Fassi F1500 crane plus a payload of 10ton cargo, moving upslope is never a problem for a scania
The old trucks were very reliable because they didn't have computers, so when you would get stranded in the bush, then you could fix
any problem with a swiss army knife, a hammer and ductape, but the downside was that they already start to rust in the brochure
and comfort was a word that didn't excist in the european truckers world, so loud as hell, and hot as an oven in the summer because no
airco, and i even heared truckers about 50 degrees in the truck when they tried to sleep, and that heat came from the engine that ran
all day. And even the seats were uncomfortable so you were happy to take your 1 hour rest after a few hours behind the wheel.
Now the new ones are all comfortable and drving one is like drving a large rv, because it has the same comfort and all the gadgets,
but when something breaks down, you don't need a mechanic but a nerd with a laptop, and all the broken parts cost a small fortune
so modern trucks will never become a oldtimer because their computers won't last forever and i even heared that wirings are
made of a bio degradable plastics that disolve after 15-20 years, so it will become impossible to keep a modern truck running.
And they are designed in way to make it waaay easier to recycle them and that way alot of parts got weaker and break down easier,
so the days of longlivety and quality in trucks and cars are over alright.
I have a mercedes sprinter van and the engine has this cheap plastic bracket that holds the fuelfilter in place and is also having
water channels that runs to other components, and a hassle to replace because it takes a dwarf with small hands to get anywere,
and the whole idea of a plastic bracket that is mounted to the engineblok is such a disaster waiting to happen, because those
plastics will harden and cruble or start to deform and then leaks will happen. So it's all crap that they built today
and you can't even recognize a engine anymore because when you open the hood and remove the plastic tupperware engine cover
then what you see next looks like the internals of a washingmachine, because it's all hoses, electric wires and sensors
and somewere down there there's something that they call an engine block. Well the engines i know had a straight 4 or 6 cilinder block
with the exhaust on one side, the intake on the other side and the valve cover on top, and all the belt driven stuff at the front where
the radiator lives, and a V8 had a exhaustmaifold on each side, a intake and carbs in the middle, and that was already eye candy,
but now they slab a large plastic lid over the engine, because now it has become a lump of iron that is wrapped in hoses, wires and connectors,
so as if you cut open an animal and look inside his guts. And they are a nighmare to work on because to change the fuel filter
or sparkplugs it takes an hour to remove all the spaghetti on top before you can even reach a sparkplug, so it's almost like
a spinal disk operation on a human, because all the intestines need to be layed aside to get there.
I like when the old boy said
*Oof Oof Oof*
Perfect.
The s730 might have more power but the old 140 has power you can feel, you’re foot controls the throttle linkage and you have to keep grabbing gears to keep her singing, I’m not saying the 730 is a bad truck I’m saying that it’s a completely different experience
True
sese bak bee😍😍😍
Super duper
