So glad you briefly addressed horses that walk off as your are mounting or before you ask them to move forward. I see so many people who ignore or disregard when that happens

Yes, and then the horse is fast and forward, thinking for them the whole rest of the ride. Thanks for watching!

That was a really great session to watch at Miller Collesium this year.

due to age and 'infirmities' I always be sure the horse has a full understanding of "ASSUME THE POSITION" before I actually ride. The horse absolutely has to stand still close up to whatever I am using for a mounting block and stay there until asked to move. I do give the command verbally and the horses know do sliddle up to whatever I am standing on, moving their haunches in to position themselves correctly. Not hard to teach.

Y'know something? Horses that are driven can respond to your body posture the same way. Sit slouched in the cart or bike, and the horse will lose intetest in you. ?Centered Driving?

Horses are very perceptive of your intentions, feel, tone in the reins etc. I’ve noticed the same thing driving as well. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting concept with the ears. What about a trail ride: I ask for an ear and let go again, like permanently reminding my mare of my presence? Or should I have one ear all of the time?

Every horse is individual, pay attention and see what your horse is trying to tell you, how they focus, what they think, this will show

You don’t need an ear (mind and attention) all the time (permanently), sometimes ears will go forward like in jumping, riding up a hill, introducing cattle or new objects, etc. What I do want is the ability to bring part of the horses attention back to me at any time at any energy level. Think of this as an exercise in directing your horses attention to different targets and place’s and sometimes back to you. Eventually they become more efficient at “mentally multitasking”. The horse attention is “fluid” and shifts around sometimes we need more or less of it depending on the situation. Thanks for watching!
