Those same things happened here in the US too. I remember clearly my mother telling me this brief story.
She grew up in a small Kansas town. There was only one Jewish family in town by the last name of Bissing.
Dr. Bissing was a dentist and had his practice located at a larger town about 15 miles away. My mother's mother was a young widow and was close friends with Mrs. Bissing. One of the very few friends she had. My mother's family were Protestant Christian, but about 60% of the town was Roman Catholic.
My mother remembered clearly how badly the Bissing children were treated mostly by the Roman Catholics. The parish nuns used to take the younger children in RC school out every day for one mile brisk walks. She said whenever they would pass by the Bissing house that the children would spit on their picket fence along the sidewalk. The nuns never said a word to correct the children. Never chastised them.
So sad.
