It's time to learn how to use cathartic release to release your trauma and heal your repressed emotions - with a focus on repressed anger in particular. In this shadow work exercise, we're exploring how to heal your repressed anger with self-guided somatic therapy and bioenergetic practices.
I'll be introducing several shadow work exercises which cover some of the major approaches to healing repressed rage and toxic shame: including somatic therapy, pioneered by people like Peter Levine, and bioenergetics, which was significantly developed by Alexander Lowen.

I know that not everybody can afford an online course, but I hope that the fifteen videos in the Shadow Work Playlist will support the next steps of your shadow integration journey.
I created this free playlist to function like a crash-course on shadow psychology with the intention of being as accessible and actionable as possible. I didn't want to stash the basics behind a paywall or email signup - I would rather you keep learning right here on CZcams.
You can instantly access over five hours of beginner-to-advanced shadow work exercises and lectures with the free playlist linked in the description.
Make sure to take your time with the guided exercises, and don't forget to buy the golden books.
    Jordan
    P. S. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to this comments section community. My channel is niche, and you've seen the Inner Work Library slowly expand over the last two years. I feel fortunate to receive such deep and genuine connections online, and CZcams recently told me that there have been more than 4000 unique commentors across my entire channel.
Thank you for showing up, I appreciate you.
If you want more depth, we can meet inside the library:

Holy Shit… As a woman who’s never “felt angry” but has experienced insane amounts of sadness, this video and the exercises from it are going to be life changing for me. I’m very excited for the day I have saved enough money to buy your course. You are changing my mental health for the better more in the last week of me watching a few videos than 10 years of therapy ever has!!! I can’t express enough how grateful I am for you and for sharing your healing journey with all of us. ❤🙏

I think this is the best video I've ever seen from you and actually maybe the best therapy video I've seen on CZcams. That raw, powerful affect with real, effective advice is so transformative and so necessary for the the people who are on the healing path. Hopefully the people who need your course are able to find this video. Honestly from what you've shown us, the course looks excellent

I just tried a few rounds of the backbend exhaling exercise and WHOA. I’ve had chronic tension issues my upper chest and throat and head for years now, grew up with chronic asthma since I was a child. I feel like I just worked through so much of that resistance and tension, like all the pressure build up was being forced to release as I pushed the air away through the tight barriers in those regions of the body. My face contorted, my mouth opened wide, my tongue came flailing around, and the sound and look was terrifying - like a suffering and angry lizard demon (almost like venom from spiderman lol), and tears flowing from my eyes. There’s a whole lot of work to do here. Thank you for this video and your shared wisdom. I look forward to more freedom 🙏🏼 ❤!

I kept getting chills listening to this! I've intuitively explored much of what you've described and it truly is life-changing. The muzzling you speak of triggered a primal rage and rebellion I've never experienced. I honestly can't imagine where I would be right now, had I not already cultivated the tools to consciously contain and constructively redirect those emotions.

Such a brilliant video. I couldn't agree more about anger being the most stigmatised emotion, and the deep damage that limiting the expression of healthy anger can do.
Anger is so intertwined with our knowing of our boundaries, our passion, our fire in life. I really believe we need to harness our anger in balance to be able to follow that fire in our belly.
Lately I've been uncovering more layers of my repressed rage and other dark emotions (destruction, disgust, contempt, sadism, masochism) and it's amazing what stories these emotions have to tell. I can also feel how these emotions can be sexually channelled through certain practices, say BDSM, and how deeply powerful and healing this could be in a loving, trusting relationship (with safe boundaries).

    • @jordanthornton
      @jordanthornton  Před 7 měsíci +2

Yes, I’ve got an entire module in my course which addresses the sexual shadow, and one of the lessons at the end does directly look at kink / BDSM within this kind of context. The connection to emotional processing and creating new safe experience is imprinted for some people.

Love this! Have been training Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu and wrestling for about 9 years now. Highly recommend striking for initial anger release, however I recommend grappling (Jiu Jitsu) for practical use of self defense and for long term mental health. I’m a purple belt now that competes regularly. Striking competitions can often lead to lots of egoic reconstruction, whereas Jiu Jitsu at the higher levels is much easier to continually work with and dissolve ego. I literally got put to sleep in tournament on live broadcast and woke up, smiled, and hugged the guy that put me to sleep. That happens in striking but much less frequently for many different reasons. I also recommend grappling especially for women because they get to physically BEAT men. 2-3 years of women striking doesn’t compare to 2-3 years of grappling for a woman vs man scenario. Definitely would look more into suggesting grappling! Ossss

The impact had been downplayed way too much.
On a level of symbolism/ metaphorically there's an irony to the appearance of the masks in such an obvious way.
As if these layers of masks and dependencies have to show themselves in the collective awareness. Bubbling to the surface. The conscious or probably more often so subconscious try to maintain facades suddenly is hard to be overlooked.

Hi Jordan, I was wondering if you ever used method acting or something along those lines to deal with anger. I stumbled across an exercise called the „dark side drill“, in which you switch between high-intensity roleplay of fighting of imaginary attackers of your loved ones with all the energy you can muster and short bouts of slow and calm breathing (a little bit like high intensity interval training). The goal would be to let your anger out in a safe environment, and showing yourself that you can control it during the short meditations. All done in private, of course, for safety’s sake. I‘d value your opinion on this from a perspective of healing repressed anger etc.
