Memories are the meaning now. When I was a kid (57 now) The little Drummer Boy was my favorite Christmas show. Sitting on the floor in front of the TV watching it, eating popcorn, while my foster mom painted the manger scene on the big front window of the house. Loved ones come and go until we die, but nothing replaces the memories that their love gave us.
I'm so so sorry you've lost so many. My older brother passed in September, and I feel the loss. But Christmas is about the coming of our Savior, and this song reminds me that even if what we have to offer in praise to Him seems small, it matters. Christmas can be such a hard time for many, so I pray you will feel Jesus comfort you.

And some affiliated churches do not believe in using all instruments in their services, they are missing out I’m beautiful talented people that can play these instruments.. I take the whole Bible and use it for the glory of God and believe the whole written word not just parts of it. So thank you Jesus for your word and how there are folks who use the whole thing.

This was my dads favorite Christmas song, he'd play it over and over and sing every word. He passed Nov 30th of 2010 & my mom just sent me this version. Its the best I've heard & he would have loved it!

My husband and I volunteered with Compassion International at the fKaC/Casting Crowns concert in Pittsburgh. We were setting our table up when I heard the opening sounds of this song. They did it first and I wasn’t prepared for it. I dropped my stuff and told my husband I had to go see it. I ran in and got to see this song played in person. It filled me with such joy that I cried. It energized me so much that I went out and helped the team of volunteers sign up sponsors for over 530 children in poverty. I’m a chronic pain sufferer and I’m almost completely home bound. Just being there was hard for me so the energy this performance gave my soul was truly God sent. Thank you Joel and Luke for a night I’ll never forget.

I am really a person that likes to stick to tradition. When I first heard this version, I thought, wow, too much noise! Yet, something made me replay this over and over. I now can't stop watching this video. This is my absolute favorite Christmas song of all time because no matter what times we are facing, it is still true today. No matter how many times I've listened to it, it is always a tear jerker when the phrase "I played my best for him" comes because it is reflecting how we treat each other here on earth, how we honor Jesus our Savior. I will agree with you if you understand that he is literally playing one note. Yes, he is doing it with perfect timing. The Stevie song is the same case, one note. Great performances of one note. But no "licks" to be found. "Licks" or "riffs" take more than one note, for future reference.
