Grundig Gdms202 is Sennheiser md408 .This MD408 microphone was one of the most used by Abbey Road studios in the Beatle era and is part of their historical list today. 80% of Grundig mics from the 50's to the 80's were always equipped with professional European studio microphones. GDMS202 is MD408 X 2 and GDMS200 is MD 409 X 2

Hi, do you know if that's true of the GDSM 331?

I really liked the sound of the Grundig mic. It has a "vintage" and musical sound that makes me think I've heard it many times on classic albums by top artists. It has a beautiful way of handling edge-of-breakup tones. What cool find. I also enjoyed you playing. 😎

great chops there chief! Nice comparison - have all three mics in different variation - my opinion: the 421 rules, and the 202 still sounds better than the 57

Grundig beat the others on the distorted sound. Overall it sounds crisp, a little bass-light, but articulate mids. For electric guitar, when it's mix time, you don't need maximum bass and maximum treble...so something like the Grundig sounds might sit in the mix well. (Great tones out of that Supro, btw...why did I sell that amp, sigh...)

Just converted my first pair of gdsm 202 to XLR, i managed to fit the impendance transformer inside it, strenghten it with some silicone. Man this mic has almost 0 amp noise, and it sounds great also on flutes! I just messaged another seller in my hometown, Bucharest, first one i paid 70 euro, second one i just found is for 60 :D Best deal on the planet for this amazing capsules!

You don't need the transformer. You may know this, but the impedance of the capsule without the transformer is about 200 ohms, perfect for modern mic preamps. Originally, the step-up transformer was to make the impedance of the microphone compatible with the high-impedance input of Grundig open-reel tape recorders.

@@lucianoluggren i will buy an audient asp880 with impedance raging from 220 to 6kohm and problem solved, higher impedance means greater voltage

@@Gedacu That feature is great, very good preamp on the Audient, but the step-up transformer on the Grundig mic's DIN conector raises the impedance from 200 ohms to 50 kohms or so. Note that what a modern preamp expect to see is a mic output impedance no greater than the preamp input impedance divided by 10. For example, a 200 ohm mic into a 2kohm input of a preamp. This 1:10 ratio ensures ideal voltage transfer, which is the most common way modern preamps work. Again, the transformer is not necessary, I have several Grundigs that I have removed the transformer from and they work perfectly with all the different preamps I have connected them to.

Regarding the 200 ohm impedance you are right but be careful, I have seen versions of the Gdms202 with a small coil included inside the Din tube connector which is essential, in other versions which are the majority it is not there and you can easily connect the cables to XLR directly.

@@rafaeldossantos4791 Hello Rafael, I have several gdsm 200 and 202 and I always found the impedance transformers inside their DIN connectors, which I always discarded and directly soldered the xlr to the cable without the transformers. I never had a problem, this way the microphones were converted to low impedance and with a balanced output.

@@AlexPriceMusician hi....tell me..I have a couple of these microphones and the light green one gives a good and rich sound, and the second red one is weak...is this how it should be? Should they work the same? Or is there something wrong with the red one?

This is unrelated. But would you suggest Gibson sg tribute 2019 or higher end epiphone sg?
