Looking at the floor plan and counting cables 0:35
putting the floor plan in Unifi design center 2:43
cabling, network and labour estimate 5:08
Final thoughts 9:10 - VÄda a technologie
Very fair pricing, and I appreciate the in-depth breakdown. I don't generally do my own cabling, but it's interesting to see how you quote it out.
This is really great to see how someone else does pricing. Thank you very much. This is almost exactly what I do, so I feel verified ha.
Nice Cody! We have a similiar process and pricing to you. We also include a statement of work, Wi-Fi heatmap, and design plans with quotes. We build the design/quoting time into the project labor price to cover the engineering time to put these plans together. We also resell the Ubiquiti equipment at a 15-20 percent margin and source it for the clients. We aim for at least 50% GP on labor. I think your pricing is very competitive. You must get most of the jobs you quote. Here in Dallas, TX most companies that can do this kind of work are at $150+ a drop. I'd assume Toronto is around the same or higher.
Surprisingly a lot of people in Toronto think $120-140 is a lot for a drop which is mind blowing to me. I know people whoâs charge $250 a drop
There are a lot of people on Facebook marketplace or kijiji that promote $75 a drop prices and people jump all over that but the quality of work is not great
You Rock for this!!! Thanks sooo much for the honesty!
You've got me rethinking my career choices... lol. Awesome work bud
And thank you very much for your openness and honesty :-)
Cody- thank you for another helpful video.
thanks for sharing Cody
Thanks for this information. Its quite interessting to see how you price your job!
Nice work on this!
Super helpful video. I wish I saw this video before performing my last job. I have been grossly under charging for installation and configurations.
And frankly, he is under charging as well...so you are way low then.
Hi Cody, thank you for explaining how you make the quotes. I must say, you have a fair pricing. If I see the complete price then I must say it is cheap for a company. You have broad knowledge and I think you deliver good quality configurations. High quality and low price is really good. Hope you grow as a company so you can ask more money. There are 3 things to consider though: 1. Deployment and Installation, 2. Continue (maintainence and support) , 3. device end life cycle (remove device and update with new one). Perhaps you can make a subscription service for companies so you can do maintance or open a own Helpdesk and hire people to maintain all networks like a NOC (Network Operations Center). Thanks again Cody, your rock!
Thank you. Very much informative.
Super helpful. Thanks!
Cody this is very helpful
Good video Cody, very fair pricing.. You called it First Flood :)
Very exciting video! I did this in smaller scale in a voluntarily job, so it's interesting to see how much work in money I've done ;-)
Nice work man
Thank you for making this video! Most of my install work is in VERY non-standard environments like barns, greenhouses, sheds and other outdoor facilities so wish I could have a standard price for the cabling like you do. I do use a similar method of saying about 1 hour for every device which covers the cabling, install and configuration. The time thatâs hard to say is the time spent training customers how to use the cameras and things like that.
Itâs interesting you have customers purchase the equipment, I think most of mine would struggle with that endeavor and the risk of them getting the wrong thing is high or constantly dealing with things that are out of stock delaying jobs all the time. I just tack on 15-30% and I handle everything, including any future warranty handling which is extremely rare.
one thing i have done in the past is if i can find all of the hardware on Amazon i create them a "list" and share it with them.
Always great content. You are not charging enough.
I'm currently working on a three level commercial office building and a two level building using Unifi routers, switches and access points to control the business network and Dahua switches, NVRs and various cameras. Their office has Ring Central but I would really like to know the capabilities of Ubiquiti's products.
I'm using a different planning program but the one you're showing looks like it would work for me.
Thanks for the info, I'm going to revisit my pricing.
I love the price breakdown, very professional and covering your bases. Question for Canada what kind of certs are you required?
For the Data run jacks in each room, up here in Chicago area we charge 150-200 per drop, that includes 2 jack in one outlet
I'm in the process of having a house built, and my builder is charging $150/drop (Central VA region, USA). I asked about multiple ports in the same location and they quoted the same price, so 2x jacks = $300.
This seemed a bit excessive to me, particularly because this is residential and the runs aren't very long. So unfortunately, I'm getting only 1 drop per room in the new place.
@@aaronboggs5799 why not do it yourselve
Nice video đ
It seems fair to me for the amount of work for such an installation (and expertise needed).
Yeah I do the same thing except of products I say happy for you to buy it otherwise I'll be putting 30% on but offer warranty replacements and a instant onsite fix so if a ap goes I'll replace it with one and I'll handle the warranty
Useful stuff man!
What tracer/toner would you recommend to locate wire runs?
Good video. Next do how you find jobs? Thanks Cody!
Not much to say about that. Really word of mouth and my inbound leads are almost 100% from CZcams
Super Nice, thanks for another class. I have a question, where do you charge the boxes for the face plate, on the running cable cost?
Can you do more of these?
It would be good to see a Keystone criper for all types of keystones
Hey Cody, I'm always curious for business cabling jobs, are you required to hold a certain requirement to do these. Such as knowing the building codes to run through fire spot etc if cabling is not already in place? I know by location it would be different. I've done residential cabling for a few years and thought about transition to doing business jobs.
Nice video. Pretty much my prices. Then I charge a monthly fees for maintenance, support, updates, etc.
We offer monthly maintenance as well depending on if the customer wants it
how much would you charge?
Just found your video today. Just moved into a house with a unify camera. Is this something i can setup myself. Is there a beginner guide?
Nice walkthrough Cody! We have a very similar approach (UniFi Design Center has made quotes *much easier*). Thank you for your transparency; it gives me the confidence to continue charging what we charge. Interesting that a 250 foot run is the same cost as a 50 foot run. Are these paired runs for 140.00?
simpler to just charge a fixed cost per run
@@starburst2203 Cat6A boxes literally have places to write footage and client in sharpie. Take a picture end of day and enter into line item on invoice. Further, the distance down wall and over and down to server rack adds a minimum of 10 feet.
@@ConorPorter yeah but he is doing an estimate which means we have no clue how long of cable we need also i just charge by the drop for sockets and switches aswell it just makes my life easier and gets the job done faster
I found the no mark up on network gear interesting, normally I would present my price with a markup and if they want to purchase themselves, the estimate can be revised. Is it just so common in your area for clients to purchase their own equipment that you don't bother?
Hey.
Ya most the time they will just buy direct instead of us buying because they know we will put 10%
How much would some of you charger for a monthly maintenance for something like this??
Fyi...seems you forgot the keystone modules for the patch panels. Thanks for the video!
Thatâs included in the price of the cable
@@MactelecomNetworks ahhh makes sense now
I wish I could get this pricing in New York
How do you handle documentation and diagrams?
Great video been looking to start my own network company, did you get a degree or have any special certifications? Ive setup friends and family but have not gone full time. What suggestions do you have with starting this type of a company. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
When I was 15 I started in network cabling and camera installation, I then took one year of college for computer networking got my Cisco CCNA and started my CCNP and was hired by a bank now im running my own business.
For starting you own business offer the services you know really well. If you arent comfortable doing something that is where you can hire contractors
Are you including the RJ45 keystone jack for the patch panel, Single Gang Wall Plate with Mounting Bracket per drop price?
yup
wow now I know why I do this myself
You think itâs to expensive?
@@MactelecomNetworks IMO No, you may even be under selling yourself most US MSPs are charging more hourly, same with low voltage electricians.
@@BDBD16 I can definitely raise my hourly and I most likely will in the coming months. For my area I feel I am competitive
@@BDBD16 I charge $202 per cable cat-6 but I just write it in list form with a total on the bottom. 26 cat-6 cables $5,252.00, for example. That's what gets delivered to the customer. My clients do not see my internal numbers and I haven't had anyone balk at the pricing. Of course, I'm in Orange County, CA and I still get people who say my prices are too low occassionally.
Omg, I need to change my career right now
I have to move to the usa,. You made about 7000 dollars just for cabeling.
And everyone is like, fair pricing. In envy you
Would you use plenum even in a home environment without air ducts?
Nope usually riser cable in a home
Why would you go for a UNVR when youâre also installing a UDM SE?
For this deployment they wanted hard drive redundancy
Do you not get charged tax when buying directly from the store ?
We do 13% but that is included in the invoice
2300 (or 1558eur) for 18 hours of work .... happy for you that someone is able to pay that rate but man .... that is steep
canada charges taxes on labor?
Yup
I guess it's CAD instead of USD
So for your pricing per drop your also including the cost of the cable?
Correct
What about conduit? Are you including that or just installing where it's necessary?
@@MikeDeVincentis for this price point I would imagine not. We charge $150 - $175 a drop. If you have code requirements or preferences that increase the complexity and add additional hardware the cost goes up.
@@durakis That's what I was thinking too.
@@MikeDeVincentis we typically donât install conduit the electrician will usually do that
How many days will this job take in total? Trying to get a feeling of if this is cheap or expensive.
Probably between 5-8 days all depending on the cabling runa
@Martin - Jobs like this should never be judged on time. The price is for the whole job not a day rate. If the job takes 5 days or 20 days, the price is the same. You pay for the workmanship. If someone quotes less and you receive less, is it still a good deal?

@@wvziccardi thatâs correct itâs a quoted job not hourly.
â@@wvziccardi Of course, I understand that. I just want to compare with my daily work as a senior software developer. Should I switch career or stay? :)
I know he's a professional and can do more and better work in less time than most others in the industry.
Also, how much did I save by doing this myself in my house? (2 AP and 6+ cameras but far fewer network outlets.)
I tried work with Cody for overseas consult, unfortunately Timezone and all the logistics wonât work.
I canât find anyone here in Australia, anyone knows who we can use here?
Hi Archie,
I see an email from you but from 2021 I do work with Australian clients but the time zones do make it tricky. If you are looking for support please send me an email and we can try and work a time out thanks

Where do you work in Canada? Ie Location

I have a unifi switch connected to my cheap spectrum router that does do vlans. I created a network on vlan 20, created a port profile with vlan 1 as native. As soon as I assign that port profile to the port connecred to my laptop , I loose network connectivity. I am trying to understand why this is happening and I can ping other networks that I had set up within the switch. Can someone please help answer this questions for me. I onky have unifi switch, cloud key and my spectrum router.
No markup on network gear wtf.
Customer usually buy the network gear direct why would I mark that up
