- Kamala Harris has chosen Governor Tim Walz as her Vice President for the 2024 Democrat ticket.

After considering nearly a dozen candidates, Harris landed on Walz who has been described as having the most "progressive record" of any of the other contenders.
Walz was an early supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, championed abortion rights into state law, and expanded free school meals & paid worker leave - so it’s not wonder the Trump-Vance team have branded him a “dangerously liberal extremist”. Rest assured, the animosity is mutual - Walz’s profile exploded after he called Donald Trump and JD Vance "weird".

I actually started laughing out loud when we got to "Pro-Hamas" wing of the Democratic party. This GoP speaker is a fucking joke.

Walz is a better choice bc he is a representative ( input for policies) for working families and healthy outlook for the future in all of America not just tactic to win in Pennsylvania. The fact that the word 'progressive' is negative in America says everything you need to know about the state of that country.
But is it? That's what I love about Harris. She's finally stopped being afraid of that shadow, has stepped out into the sunlight and, in choosing Walz, has embraced it. It looks like the Dems are about to learn they should have done that long ago. With luck, the message - should the Dems win which seems increasingly likely now - will be learned by Starmer over here. I don't think it will change his political positioning, but it will take away his excuse for maintaining it.

Shapiro was not forced out. Harris chose Walz because he balances the ticket better than Shapiro would have. Walz is from middle America, has a couple decades of military experience, and served 12 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. Shapiro is fantastic and will probably be president one day, but the ticket didn't need 2 coastal former AGs. I wish the press would report the news instead of making up stories.

Shapiro wanted a bigger role in decision making as VP, because he has Presidential aspirations of his own. Walz told Harris that he if he was chosen he would do everything he could to support her decisions. Walz is also a perfect contrast to JD Vance, which, as talented as Shapiro might be, isn’t the case with him. Walz comes across as approachable, family oriented, smart, compassionate and like a hard working mid-western guy. He’s a member of the NRA and he hunts, but he still believes in sensible gun safety standards. Any responsible hunter I know in Canada believes in proper gun safety. The Democrats have lost large numbers of middle aged white male voters to Trump, and Walz is the perfect candidate to bring them back. He’s done more than 2 decades of military service and then moved into public service. He’s helped veterans experiencing PTSD. He was a football coach. He’s practically Ted Lasso mixed with Coach from Friday Night Lights. Mid-west values, but not narrow minded or bigoted. He makes Vance seem like an ironing board or like that weird guy you saw by himself at a party who you feel sorry for and later regret talking to because he spends the rest of the night glued to your side and he’s boring AF.

Two lawyers at the top of the ticket would have been too much IMO and I think that’s part of why Shapiro didn’t make it.
