Hi :) quick question, when you develop C41 film like Kodak Ultramax 400 do you develop it on ECN-2 Chemicals?

I am totally going to send the film to my cousin in Stuttgart Arkansas to then mail it to your lab to confuse the postmaster lol

What if You used Hasselblad's large format sensor and did a pixel shift image, would that result in an even larger scan? Also will you be doing any 120 film scanning in the near future?

Hey. Actually we are using Phase One Medium Format sensor technology for our scanner. Medium format is in early testing phase.

I ordered four rolls of sibersalz 35, would it be possible for you guys to send a sample picture in sibersalz colorscience and a version in raw color science. I do have some experience in color grading. But i'm on the fence how i want my scans delivered. Thanks a lot!

I am in the same position now... Unfortunately silbersalz seems to be really rigid and inflexible interns of such ideas :/
Did you come to a conclusion?

As a customer i would really like to have samples images of film scan like portra since now you cross process c-41 film.

I think it’s a but unfortunate how you guys push the resolution side. Especially since 35mm simply doesn’t resolve 14K and 99% of people will never print or crop their pictures in a way to actually make use of this.
Meanwhile, you’re delivering your images in Adobe RGB which makes it less consistent for your consumer costumers who want to go straight to print or the internet, which is better done in sRGB. Also the little graph on your side comparing sRGB and Adobe RGB on your website is like, TV manufacturer level, misleading marketing BS. sRGB is perfectly capable of displaying even very saturated film images without breaking apart.
And your raw files come in a non standard color space and gamma for which you don’t provide any transformations. So saying grading should be left to the pros is kind of an understatement, considering how even real pros rarely grade straight Log footage without a transform for display.
Your new color science is a real step up from your old sepia looking one, but is still only an imitation of a true film print. And what does Vision family of print films even mean? Kodak Vision Premier 2393 has been discontinued and is even punchier than 2383. Which your color science also lack the nuance off. I’ve seen a few movies shot on Vision3 negative films, photochemically printed onto 2383 and besides the fact that the contrast is much richer. (Which I understand, you want to leave room to edit without the user having to pull information out first.) The colors are much more nuance with the skin tones not drifting into the yellowish brown your colors do. Your negatives look much more like an actual film print on 2838, scanned on my Fuji Frontier SP500 than your color science does. And the Frontiers emulate Fujicolor Crystal paper not 2383 print film.
Honestly guys, I don’t appreciate the 14K BS actually understanding how resolution works), if the color science isn’t up to snuff. Make a product for artists not pixel/grain fuckers.
Btw, are you using a black and white sensor and scan each RGB channel separately or is Apollon 14K using a Bayer filter? ‘Cause that would mean it’s not really 14K, it’s actually only about 10K.

That's not to say I'm not rooting for you guys. I keep recommending you. Because even with suboptimal color science you prices are still really great. And you color scenes looks good. Just not as good as a Frontier or real print film. I'm just can't stand marking BS anymore.

Agreed. I really liked silbersalz when they first started out with the qaulity and scientific approach to film dev and scan. They've slowly been getting worse, and as soon as I saw this I knew they were done. They don't take on board feedback and rarely reply to criticism. They've just jacked the prices up and boxed you into buying the 14k package because honestly what semi professional would spend that money just to get 4k JPG. It's an apple type move. before (for less money) I got all three options. Now I have to pay to unlock my scans.
There's also no side by side comparisons to the old scanner or talk of dynamic range this is all just goof ball marketing to the new photographer who doesn't know better. Blackmagic formerly cintel put in decades of research into the sensor and specifically the colour science, I know phase one is a great company but I'm skepitical about how the new colour science by silbersalz compares. Again a simple comparison download on the site would have been nice e.g. raw plus graded on both scanners. Check out midwest film co they're doing what SZ used to

Hey, thank you very much for your feedback.
      APOLLON SENSOR
We are using an APOLLON customized 151-megapixel CMOS backside illuminated (BSI) sensor from Phase One / Sony and a specialised outside-focused macro lens.
Thanks to intense testing we are pretty sure our camera / sensor / lens combination is the best solution for negative scanning money can buy.
We are using this medium format camera sensor to ensure 14PERF 35mm compatibility today and medium format and 65mm motion picture compatibility in the future.
      APOLLON RESOLUTION
With APOLLON every image is scanned at native sensor resolution 16 bit RAW.
For motion picture scanning we are downscaling to 8K or 4K.
For photography customers we are including 4K HQ scans that should be more than fine for the average consumer.
After checking out your 4K gallery you can optionally
upgrade your gallery of 4 films to full sensor resolution & lossless 16 bit. This options will cost you 7 Cent per image for this gallery.
We decided to stay at full 14K resolution for Apollon full quality delivery after intense testing.
We are not claiming every film resolves 14K but in our tests we saw a clear advantage compared to downsampling to 10K or lower.
      APOLLON COLOR SPACE
SRGB was a great color space 30 years ago.
Modern displays (smartphones, tablets, notebooks, tv, cinema) feature modern, larger color spaces (REC2020, P3, Adobe RGB, …).
Adobe Lightroom works natively in Adobe RGB.
This is why we think it was the right time to leave smaller color spaces from the 90s behind (SRGB / REC 709) and decided to go for ADOBE RGB.
We are using a true 16 bit pipeline from sensor to delivery of both motion picture and full quality photography.
      APOLLON LOG JP2
When opening an Apollon jp2 in Adobe Photoshop for example we recommend applying an Adobe RGB ICC profile first thing. After that you have a perfectly standardised, widely adopted color space.
When using our free APOLLON2LIGHROOM converter workflow we will apply ADOBE RGB automatically for you.
      APOLLON FLAT OPTION
When choosing our FLAT SCAN OPTION you are bypassing our filtering / color science completely.
The scans are completely neutral and scientific.
You may come up with your own color science based on APOLLON FLAT scans. This is what our motion picture customers and their colorists choose to do.
I hope I answered all your questions.
      ;-)
