    Still seeing this discrimination today. Female captain recently won a discrimination lawsuit in Federal Court against Delta, was initially retaliated against her for reporting safety concerns. Federal judge was particularly harsh in the ruling against Delta. The Captain was also in graduate school earning her PhD in aviation safety.

    Absolutely fantastic woman. Such an inspiration in every regard. Her intelligence, her faith and her dedication. She went into aviation in a male dominated world with much working against her and she turned it all into a positive for herself and her career. Things have changed both with the military and the airlines now given their focus on gender, racial diversity and equality. The path has been made much less restrictive for women and people of color. I saw it when I flew for the airlines in how they would focus harder on getting those people through their training. Some male pilots, because of the macho thing, can have a tendency to take unnecessary and potentially dangerous risks. The women pilots I flew with never had that problem- they were always by the book. There were a few women pilots that bragged and looked at themselves as being a hero to all women because they had become airline pilots. Those were the ones that disgusted me. Airline unions also have their special groups dedicated solely to women pilots and pilots of color. To me that's divisive, unnecessary and contradicts the entire concept of equality.

    Interesting that her first officer was flying the plane that day and she continued to have him fly while she communicated with air traffic control. This is in direct contrast to Sully, Who took back control from Jeff Skiles who was the pilot in charge that day.

      What is your point?

    • @LinYouToo
      @LinYouToo Před 4 lety +3

      54fast b in both cases the first officers were “piloting” the planes. Right seat. Not the pilots themselves in the left seat. In her case, she continued to have her first officer fly the plane while she handled radio communications. With Sully, he said “my plane” and took over as both pilot and communicating with ATC. My point is I wonder why she didn’t do the same thing or why sully didn’t let Jeff continue to fly? Also, it’s clear that although everyone is a hero, it seem only she and sully got book deals. Just my thoughts 💭.

      @@ReineDeLaSeine14 Indeed, that is the big picture for sure. It is strange though, that in both cases the first officers, who played critical roles, are not at the forefront of the media attention.

    • @Snookynibbles
      @Snookynibbles Před 4 lety +10

      LinYouToo, There were justifications in each of these instances. Both pilots in SWA 1380 had deep experience with the plane. Not sure if policy required the left seat to land the plane, but Tammy Jo did, and she of course continues to affirm the team effort involved. With US Air 1549, it was different. That flight was first officer Skyles (a very experienced 737 pilot), very first flight with passengers in the Airbus though both pilots had equal time in commercial jets. Because of this, Sullenberger took control after the bird strikes for obvious reasons...he had the deep experience with the Airbus, not Skyles.

Would you really deprive people of their right to make an observation meant only to improve the situation? If you cannot grasp my meaning I apologize. @@BrigidSamhain okay Brigid, if that's where you're coming from I apologize. In the scope of things, your comment simply seemed very shallow. I myself resisted the temptation to comment on her relience on scripture, and my disappointment that she said she was thinking about meeting her maker immediately after the explosion. In fact, she seems like a pretty competent aviator, so I question that's actually the way it went down (no pun intended😊). I would hope she would reserve those thoughts for when she had done all she could do, and was spiraling into the ground! After all.. the good Lord helps those who help themselves right? Anyway I digress! Perhaps we can discuss the multi-billion dollar fashion and cosmetic industry that relies on misogyny (sometimes self-inflicted) in another thread. Peace!
