Honestly blackout curtains help a lot with reflections especially if the curtains are long enough to cover the window floor to ceiling and still be “wavy” if that makes sense… Plus curtains are adjustable and more aesthetically pleasing. Though There are still going to be a bunch of reflections unless you really focus on surrounding the whole kit and not just 2 or 3 walls. The little sound foam panels do work for high frequency reflections, they’re just not good at stoping bass frequencies, or sound proofing, The thicker the foam the better

In my old place, I screwed a long, narrow strip of wood to the studs, and then hung an acoustic blanket on that strip. Worked pretty well, and wasn't too bad to patch up when we left... Hi Brandon,
    well done build and video.
One other thing beside leaving a gap between wall and panels to get more out of it would be to not set them up paralell on the opposite wall.
If you alternate the position of the panels than you don't end up with a space where you still have all the reflections and this is in your case right at cymbal and ear hight. Problem than could be that your one ear gets the full reflections from the one side, and your other ear gets way less reflections. what helps there is to use smaller panels and alternate them but this will not look as good as your 8ft panels, hm

I have dealt with the "curse of being a drummer" for years. Had a pretty nasty fist fight with a retired librarian once. Book smart. Just bought a new townhome in 2019 and lo and behold my neighbor, who I share a wall with, went into CoVid shelter in place mode two months later. So I bought a Roland TD17. Not the best solution but she hates my tapping a little less than my acoustic. I told her if she wanted to live in solitude she should move to suburbs. She disagreed and had the entire neighborhood and my association slapping expensive fines on me. I haven't paid any of them or stopped drumming. Later
