Playing character like Boldrick requires immense understanding of the character and keeping poker face in all the scenes and doing all this in front of Rowan Atkinson must have been very difficult
Sit Tony Robinson waa always perfect. In all his documentaries and don't forget he created and wrote Maid Marian and her Merry Men before Blackadder ended!

Black Adder was brilliant. Fascinating to see how the wobbly first series, where Black Adder was a loser, was transformed into Black Adder being a cynical schemer.
I love him in the 2nd one.
Yep, bringing in Ben Elton as a writer for series 2 was a master stroke……..
1st series is the best, Blackadder was perfect in that.
I think as his family drops in status there forced to become more cunning
He is one of the best TV side kicks of all time; in the same league as Barney Fife.
Greatest group of actors in a single sit-com ever.

I always found it interesting that in Series One (which doesn't get nearly enough love), Baldrick was the smart one!
Yep. As Blackadder got smarter, Baldrick became dumber.
@Greg Elchert I saw it once (it might have been on CZcams at the time). It wasn't bad, though having different actors for King Richard and Baldrick was a bit jarring. I always found it a shame that Brian Blessed never returned to any of the later series, even in a cameo.

When I need to see lots of Brian Blessed, I watch, “I, Claudius”. “Quinctilius Varus, where are my legions?” Or Eagles - it depends on which source. He has the best developed chest resonator. I could only dream of using my chest resonator like that. (Sorry, retired Shakespearian actor).
The first series was utterly forgettable; what saved it is removing Rowan Atkinson as a writer and replacing him with Ben Elton.

I liked series 4 Baldrick best, he was still a bumbling idiot, but he was a more thoughtful, philosophical and inquiring iteration, which makes sense for the time it's set in, when people were beginning to question why the system had to be the way it was

What is really impressive here is the job done on upconverting the original PAL video. Kudos to the engineering team!

The rise and fall of Baldrick through the centuries
I have a theory that, to repent for being complicit to poisoning his master, him and all his descendants' neurons go to the nearest Blackadder for all eternity.
That or they thought he was funnier this way.
In the early 90s, I saw the episode, for the first time, where Baldrick (mis)defines "C" as "Big, blue wobbly thing that mermaids live in!"
I've always remembered that line. Other quotes from other shows kinda fade over time, some get mixed up with others and some just disappear from memory altogether! However, the 'Big, blue wobbly thing that mermaids live in,' has always remained a perfectly clear and wonderfully funny memory for me.

His large splinter idea breaks me everytime.

I really hope Blackadder will return - maybe for that one set in the ‘60s they were thinking of but never went ahead with.
With "Bald Rick" the drummer! Yes, it would be fantastic if they did, but unfortunately it's probably wishful thinking on our part. You never know though...

the irony is that the British Army was actually quite well supplied during the first world war
Problem was getting the supplies to the front.
Sometimes fresh troops and supplies would be shelled to smithereens on the way there and of course there were momentary shortages as it dragged on.
So well supplied British soldiers would commonly eat fried lice

I'm still really hopeful that we'll get a revival of Blackadder. Maybe one last grand finale show?

Season 3 and 4 are my favourites....1 wasn't much, the charactors were wrongly played, 2 was pretty good but it really took off with 3 and peaked with 4.....great written comedy at its best.....
I always preferred season 2. Particularly the baby-eating bishop of Bath and Wells, and the first time seeing “Bob”. Even the very first conversation of the series, when Kate (Bob) is talking to her father and he wants her to go on the game, is brilliant!
