Q chula, do you speak Spanish? loll
I NEED a moisture meter badly! Can I have one?

She playing with us, you need to go to the store or use your finger or intuition!! Mest up!! I like to keep my word!! If your going to buy one I recommend eBay the four in one moisture meter. THE PH works properly for longer then a week not like this cheaper expensive things.
My wife has a habit of buying plants and letting them die so I've taken it upon myself to learn about the plants in an effort to rescue them. Being a hopeless newbie, I took to the internet where I learned about the dangers of overwatering. As a result I've become a little paranoid about watering and it's frustrating not knowing when to water. Needless to say I'm really happy I came across this video. Thanks Erika!
Yay! I just bought a moisture meter and this really helped! Simple and straight to the point ✨ Thank you
I just got mine tonight and I’m so excited about it!
I've watched few videos an yours is best one yet.
You cover everything we need to know
Watched a few of your garden videos, nice voice to see some beautiful plants. First year trying to garden so trying to absorb as much as I can in these downtimes. Thanks for the tips!
Superb and detailed video! Thanks for emphasising on the smaller details and useful visuals
Here's a little cool pearl of info just for fun! Those moisture meters use the salts in the soil to read the moisture. So if you add salt into a cup of water, it'll read as super wet.
So that’s how it reads the moisture!! I knew it had something to do with salt lol, thanks for the insight 😌
Wow!
Thank you
Does using distilled water effect the accuracy of the meter?
i thought it measured electrical resistance since water is a conductor? so less resistance means more moist
Soooo helpful! Thankyou 🙏 I was skeptical about buying a moisture meter bc I didn't understand how to use it. But now I'm thinking I may.
A moisture meter is definitely essential. I lost a moisture meter by leaving it in the soil so great tip👍.Thanks for sharing🤗👍❤.
Thank you for all the detail information. Have a wonderful evening!
Great video Erika! I do have a meter and it has been a great help to me.
That was very helpful. I use my moisture meter all the time!
This was so helpful I’ve been looking for a decent moisture meter and some amazon reviews really had me confused there were pictures of the meter in a water cup and then complaining that it doesn’t work I didn’t know what to believe 😂
Thank you for this 🌱 I'm an avid overwaterer and have just bought one to stop me ha x
FYI: I had the darker green meter for a couple of years. Used primarily for moisture, and didn't care too much for the pH probe; which coincidentally broke last summer, but did not affect the adjacent moisture probe nor readings.
These are some great tips that some of us would no know.
I ordered one on Amazon today. Can't wait to finally use one. I saw a plant with root rot recently and it broke my heart 💔
Great info,, I been debating whether or not to buy one now I’m sold 💚🌱
Wow this is incredibly helpful! This would get rid of a ton of anxiety about watering 😬😊
I just got a rubber tree and this was super helpful! Thank you!!
Water meters for the win! I really rely on them because I have so many plants with different types of soil. It’s hard to rely on the lifting test or even the finger test. Great video!
What’s a water meter
Very helpful video. Will definetly be purchasing one of these now. Thank you
Really helpful video for a houseplant newbie like myself, thanks!
it does show "dry" when you stick it in water and my first thought was "oh no, i got broken one!" 😂
Lmao girl ur funny 😂😂
@@ErikaLodes but imagine that moment of pure dissapointment 😅
I did the same!! and I ordered another one thinking the first one's broken. Now I have 2 working moisture meters 😂
started the hobby couple of days ago, first video I saw after searching on the topic. Found it useful, thank you!
THANKS is a very good explanation i have recently bought one : )
Thank you so much for this informative video. Worth subscribing 😍
Thanks for the super clear guide, bought one yesterday and used for the first time today. Using an app called Planta which tracks my plant care and also gives a recommended watering schedule, but now armed with this inexpensive gadget and the diary I am hoping to keep more than just a sansevaria alive
Im exactly on the same situation as you were ahah, started using planta days ago, how did it go for you? Can you keep more than a sansevaria alive now? 😂
Planta gives inaccurate watering schedules for some of my plants, so I’d recommend using a moisture meter and creating your own watering schedule with it instead of using the preset ones!
Thanks just got my first house plants will be getting this!
just got my first moisture reader, I didn't know how to read it, but Thanks to your tutorial lesson, by george I've got it. your video was clear and understanding to the point Thank You Erika
This rly helpful! Thanks! 🌱
Great video I have one and am glad you did some tips and tricks, it was good to learn more. The last few plants I bought had foam around the sem and roots, I worked out the plants are cuttings and saw you got a plant with foam around it as you were repotting it. Thought you may want to know. Look forward to the next video.
Thanks!! Oh yeah I don’t like the foam 😟 The greenish one right? It’s kind of icky
@@ErikaLodes Yeah sure is, I had two like that the other day. I also sent an email with some new pics of my new project.
Excellent video. I wish I had a moisture meter 30 years ago. I've been over watering my entire life 😐
Straight forward and exactly what I was looking for ... thanks
Really handy info - -Thanks so much!
Thank you Erika! Love your videos!!!
I need a water meter, right now I just touch the soil to check how moisture it is
Thank you. Will have a moisture meter this Friday.
I love this video. She explained nicely.
Thanks Erika for the good info.
Hi, love your video, great info without talking to much, not that I don't find your voice very calming and that smile 🌱😁
Hi Erika ! Thank you so much for this video 🙂 ; its very helpful ; I have a moisture meter at home but I never use it ! First, because I didn't know exactly how to use it ; now, thanks to your video it seems so easy, so Im gonna try ; actually I'd like to use it with my spider plant : I dont want to over water her so its a bit complex sometimes to know exactly when its time to do it ; im still a bit scared of the moisture meter because I have the impression that it can destroy some roots..but your video will help me for sure ! There's another thing I want to tell you : the way you speak is great ! Its so nice to hear you ; your voice is very pleasant and I understand every word you say which is not always the case! Thank you again.
Much love from France 😍
these will definitely come in handy!
Very helpful video. Thanks! Are all soil moisture meters calibrated the same? (I.e. does a 1 on one meter mean the same thing as that of another meter?) If so, do you know if there is a chart for the number for each plant?
Hello 👋🏼 very helpful information. It’s my time planting and using a meter. What should the moisture level be for Marigold, succulents and SunFlowers? Thank you for your help!
Love your videos! I have a moisture meter and I would have a lot of rotten roots without it 💚
So how long do you leave the meter in before you take a reading? When I first put it in I get a 7 but it slowly goes down over the next couple minutes to a 2/3. So is it at a 7 or is it dry and needs watered?
I have a question about the depth of the meter. I know that many of my plants have roots that have not filled the pot therefore, the soil on the bottom is not used by the plant and is moist compared the half level. Do you submerge your meter to the very bottom of all your pots?
Excellent video...Well done
This was so helpful thank you so much!! You helped me learn how to use a new tool I’m trying out. I was also able to determine why my ZZ plant was getting yellow leaves sporadically. Hopefully this will help me to stop killing my cacti 😭 THANK YOU!! 🙏
Thankyou! The information I was looking for!
Hi Erika! Very helpful video. Can you give me any advice regarding measuring soil moisture of newly seeded grass. The grass is 2-3 weeks old, about 3 inches long, so the roots are short. Can you recommend how deep in the soil should I insert the moisture meter?
They are great. Have 4 (in different rooms) Well worth the money.
7 purchased another meter swearing I was going to make it last and correctly. After I ordered I did a Google search. You came up first Erika. Woot Woot.
Shared to my fb/
THANKS
This is so informative. I left mine in the soil years ago. The prongs got rusty so I remove it now but it almost always reads dry, rarely reads moist. I guess its ruined.😯 I think I need a new one.
i Can send you a new one :)
just message me erikalodesplants@gmail.com
with your address
Your videos have been so helpful in my plant journey. Based on your video on the moisture meter I did purchase one and I love it!!! Thank you! I am wondering about the string of hearts ceropegia. In my research I have found conflicting moisture meter numbers 1 or 4. Since that's a big difference I was wondering what your thoughts are. Thanks for your help! ~Michelle
Thanks for sharing. If it's on the dry side on 3 is it ok to water or wait until 1 to do so? Is checking one time a week suitable?
I love your vlog from a fellow Californian 😁
excellent video. Thanks for your knowledge
It's a galvanic cell, a battery. Batteries use two dissimilar metals (copper, alkalines, lithium, lead, etc) and an electrolyte (salt water, acid, etc).
The meter will have more or less electrical flow depending on water content.
very helpful video, thank you erika! :)
i don't know if i got a broken moisture meter, but i really have problems with mine. I use a chunky soil mix and it always says dry even though i just watered my plant :/ i have the feeling that it kinda measures the "density" of the soil and not really the moisture.
Thanks for sharing, with the draecena, parlour palm and umbrella plant, would it be ok on No. 2 on the dry end?
I Absolutely Love the Video. I am trying to figure out my Golden Pothos. I think I am under watering it. Where would you water. Just as a sort should water around. Please help.
I use the same rounded water meter you have. It has been a Godsend. I have not lost a plant to overwatering yet.
That’s awesome!! Losing plants to root rot is the worst
Great info! Thanks
Thanks for this informational video
Thanks a lot for this video! It really helped me. Just one question: Using the moisturemeter regularly can't hurt the roots?
Great tips. Thanks
What if i stick if from the bottom holes in my giant pot?
Will it read correctly?
And will the poking sticks not pierce my precious roots and kill my roots?
I usually wait to water my peppers untill the plant leaf starts to hang down a little.
This is the same exact on I got. I leave mine in for about a minute because sometimes it changes. If you leave it in too long it will show dry.. are you suppose to leave it in for a minute or so or do you read the number right when you put the meter in there? Maybe that’s why I am not getting an accurate reading and think mine is off.
I have one but I don’t know if my soil is too dry or too root bound but I have a hard time sticking the meter in the soil. I hear cracking and like a ripping when I try to push it down so I cringe and pull it out really quick lol.
This was really helpful thank you
Hi Erika recently came across your videos and finding them helpful so thank you. I've just got my moisture meter. How do you know the moisture number is for various plants is there a chart you use? Thanks
Thank you 🙏 this video helps me a lot.. I’m new to indoor plant/gardening and I’m really worried.
Great video, very helpful, new subscriber
Love watching your videos after a long day of work 😊definitely need to invest in a moisture meter now for my big plants. Seems less stressful lol
Awhh yay!! 💖
They are suuuper helpful, definitely gives you peace of mind
Great advice :)
Good presentation! thank you.
I’m a beginner with plants & I just invested a lot so I don’t want to fail at this
Should I disinfect the moisture meter with wiping it with rubbing alcohol between the plants?
I’ll have to look up what plant needs what reading before a full watering ..
how do you know you are not hurting the roots each to u stick the meter in the soil? or its not that important? i ordered one and im scared if i damage the roots system.
You’re beautiful! And the video was awesome too! Thanks!
Hi I have a monsterra plant but I have not been able to find what moisture level I need. Do you have a page with a list of different plants?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🦘👍
Thanks for the help!
Really nice video.
Hi. I just started watching you videos, and I was just wondering if you have any tips for taking care of Juniper Bonsais.
Which of the two do you prefer? There are so many and vary in price so much that I don't know what to get.
Can i just left the stick in the soil after done testing? Is too troublesome to wash ans clean it
I really hope you see my question, I have exactly the same as you have with light meter. After i stick it in it shows me wet and then continues to drop and doesnt stop.
At 7:14 i saw that yours does it as well, is this normal?
Great video! Good information! I would loveee the moisture meter! Plz
These are great for checking if your grow lights will actually do anything for your plants. Two of those tripod type of grow lights from Amazon and both of them register close to 0 for the light meter, in comparison to my much smaller (and cheaper) grow lights 😑
Hi
Gr8 tutorial
Does probe hurt roots?
Does. Probe hollow trace hurt the roots?
Does filtered water or fertiliser added watering make different readings?
Appreciate your help
I find my moisture meter really useful but at the same time very inconclusive a lot of the time. Depending on the spot you hit, you might touch a root which will screw up the reading, and if you use soil mixes with perlite, orchid bark and such it's actually hard to find a spot that gives you a good reading.
I Messier every pot at four pointa
Thank you so much for this video. I kill plants. I gave up indoor plants years ago. But last XMas I bought a Norfolk Island Pine, which likes sandy soil. I bought a moisture meter like the round one that you showed. It always reads at 6-7 no matter when I measure the moisture. The pine is supposed to be moist, so I don't water it much. But I am killing the tree and I don't think this meter works. It never reads dry. I had another meter years ago and it also didn't seem to work. Or maybe I'm just a plant killer?
If I've stuck my meter in water and kept it in my plant, did I ruin it? Asking for a friend lol.
Thank you very detailed and accurate
Super cute:)
Thanks for the video, very informative. Also, that’s what she said ~~~ lol got em’! No but really, thank you. :)
Great video! I find all your content quite helpful!
very insightful, thank you! how dry do you think a fiddle leaf fig tree should be before watering? :)
i have seen on multiple sources saying 1 so totally dry
