I was taught this from english riding, but the best way to set up that seemingly INSTANT transition when you have all the prerequisits and a solid cue- is to ask for the canter when your inside front leg touches the ground. It's because it's the outside back leg is next to move in order, and that's when the horse can push off into canter. Timing changes the game with walk to canter transitions
Teaching a horse to lope off by doing it out of a rollback is super effective. I've used this approach. It puts them back on their haunches... Love this skill. It's fun!!!

THIS! I so struggled (and still do some days!) with properly sitting the canter. It really hit home when I figured out how to canter from a walk/stand still. I was able to isolate the movement without the trot transition, then I was able to add in the trot transition. I am blessed with a horse who is wonderfully trained and has the patience of a saint!
I absolutely LOVE horses, but unfortunately currently live in Chicago where it’s just not feasible for me to ever see them. These videos are such fun to watch though, just seeing folks doing anything with horses really cheers up my mood!
Question: my horse is a pocket rocket. 0- 60 always. There is hardly any slow trot and asking for it in lessons brings about bucking and anxiety and a lot of head tossing. That's fine I can ride that but every time I've asked for a relaxed trot I can never seem to get it. Any tips? For reference this is a youngester, muscled up but a wee bit unbalanced still. Has finished growing but her personality is anxious, flighty, although not malicious in the slightest. She r3ally is a sweety.
Now THATS a horseman. :D Ive been playing rdr2 and its lame to see the cowboys kick the heck outta their horse to tell them to move, so silly, and that even with spurs. Its refreshing to see a real horseman for a sec.
Question. Why wear spurs? Does it serve a purpose? Why is horse belly strap extremely loose? Doesnt that hold the saddle on and stop it from sliding around?
@@coldpuckhere are two straps on the saddle, first one holds the saddle in place and second one is loose so in face you are going down a hill the saddle doesn't fall off, you don't put it tightly around the horse as it would bother them. Spurs are completely useless, they are purely used to abuse horses, they are usually seen as an accessory, but when it comes to hrose riding they don't benefit anything.
@@coldpuck spurs are used as an extension of the heel to give clearer commands etc although you should be an experienced rider when using them because you can actually hurt your horse with them. And the back cinch on the saddle is to keep the saddle from flipping up if the horse bucks, there’s an incident of some sort, etc, while the front cinch is what mainly keeps the saddle on the horse.
Not sound all picky and stuff, but this video would be a lot better if you didn’t use spurs. Cause while I’m not totally against spurs I still don’t like to use them or for people to use the ones you are using (I feel small little ones are fine when you know how to spur correctly and you know how to take the pressure off when you don’t need need them otherwise your horse will get large bald spots or even cuts on their sides)

Have you ever looked at your pulled up knees in your videos? Pretty bad for someone who thinks he should train others ...

I look lessons in English for years and they never taught me this
@@soimsha. my best dressage instructor both told and trained it, but it isn't "common" knowledge- which is why I mentioned it

Love your channel
Thanks!
Moves well. Nothing better then a horse willing to move and go. You get so much more work done in a day and your less tired.

Look to heavy to be on top of that poor girl 😮
What dose lope off mean? 😁
Sorry, im a lamin.
Looks like you are in Citra Florida
Even the race game banned spurs lol you need to catch up cow boy , lol
He looks a little big for that horse
Nice hackamore.
You need to watch Jesse Drent! His horses can do everything that your horses can do without spurs and without a bit!
Wish spurs could be banned
😑
To ride such little horses like quarter horses is no problem at all...try German Sport horses...😉

same!! the small nub spurs i feel like should be the only ones people use
why spurs?
spurs are totally fine if used right and from what i can tell he's gentle with them. normally they are used for more exact contact.
Why the spurs? Is that comfortable for the horse? Is it necessary? Right! Do better Ryan.
À so tiny horse with à heavy human on it sitting on its lumbars. I can‘t believe it. This horse… so sorry.
DON'T use those CRUEL spurs, to hurt the horse to do something!
