Does this all in one Powerhouse 767 have what it takes to run my shop while I install a luggage box on my skoolie?

It would make it easy to run a single cable into a distribution fuse panel on a smaller RV conversion.

It sounds like you'll love building it & you'll definitely love driving it places, you might even end up living full time in it.
Get your family involved at least helping design it, maybe helping with specific tasks, it's quite a bonding experience.
There's lots of retired people in vehicles of one sort or another, some of them are fun to hang out with once in a while.

just food for thought if had room to mount the box back let's say an inch or two ..you could weld or rivet a piano hinge on the skirt cut out making it a door to hide the box..just an idea. to hide a thinner box....lol
I actually did that once but it was very hard to make it look clean and the skirt was always getting in the way of the box so we removed it. We think alike!

Always enjoy watching you build. You're an artist. Already have a "different brand", as big as my little 95lb wife could pick up. Those seem to weigh more than her. This one is not on wheels and slightly smaller, like your backup battery. Easily sits on the marble counter. Runs the kitchen and refrigerator for a day or two at a time. Very happy with that brand too.

Okay, this really caught my attention! I have a shuttle bus, and I have a 110 Hobart welder I've never used, and a 7 gallon air compressor. I might remove my air conditioner system, because it's big, heavy, and not working well. I might install one of these in its place. Great to see this! Just started, and we'll see how it ends. If you can do it with those tools, then I have hope! Thanks!

I'm in almost exact same situation (shuttle, Chinese welder, small compressor, etc), however the prices on these undercarriage boxes are rediculously high so I'm diy-ing the box, too. I'm using an old filing cabinet that I'll waterproof with paint, caulk, rubber paint and strategically placed gaskets! I foresee about $40. Fingers crossed.

Amazing job and just in time, I bought 4 Buyer boxes for my build and you gave me some ideas to make my install go much smoother. One question, did you add a spacer in the gap for the top bar to keep it from collapsing with the weight in the box and bumps or how did you address that?
Luckily my bus came with 12 feet of storage bins that go all the way under (rear engine bus) so around 90-100 square feet of storage under the bus right from the factory!

Enjoyed the video Chuck. Great work. Fabbed up nicely. Looks like the Anker’s are holding up nicely. I saw maybe the same video of another bus builder only using rivets to attach the box. I didn’t know what the manufacturer’s recommendation was but I knew there was a better way. You just displayed it!

Great video as always! Can't wait to start my build.
One suggestion, don't use grade8 bolts to go through such thin profiles of unhardened steel. In most cases you'd be concerned with - like impact or vibration - regular bolts would be more likely to deform with the rest of the structure and prevent catastrophic failure. You want bolts that bend, not stay rigid and tear thorough the soft steel frame it's holding together. The weight of a moving skoobus impacting something is definitely in the realm of forces large enough to make this issue worth considering. If you are just using grade8 because those are the fasteners you have on hand, fender washers or something would be a good idea.

Great start & already I'm seeing a lot ; so how loud w/ the exhaust be if it's cut & dumped on the side? Won't be loud enough for
police to complain, will it? And this is a 26' - 28' bus? Just seeing the first 10 minutes was a lesson. I'm amazed at this.
As long as you're just cutting the tailpipe after any silencers (mufflers) it won't be any louder but the pitch will change.
You could insert a bend & just run the pipe somewhere else.
Yeah, that makes perfect sense as long as ya didn't cut out any components that are part of the clean air act or

I have a non-related question. How do you install legal seat-belted seating for say a family of five? Where do you get the hardware, how do you make sure it is extra safe and legal?
I'm not Chuck, and I may be curious of what he would say. I personally got seat belts and bolted them into the same metal bar that the original bus seats were bolted to.
What about ground clearance? It seems to sit quite a bit lower then the original body work.
I would like to petition to see the footage of you getting out of the box. 😂

Could you come thru the floor and drop your shower pan lower, increasing the hight of your shower?
Yes but it needs bracing because shower pans are designed to sit on a floor. There are also body-support beams to consider.

What size / grade bolts did you use to secure the box? We are modifying a box like that under our bus to house our house batteries

One question I have is with the wait on the belly of the box shudn't there B the same rectangle metal tubing that is supporting the top also B placed under the box?
i understand why you would ask, but as you saw when I showed the instruction illustrations, it is not called for. it certainly wouldnt hurt
Hey Chuck:
I notice you're not back priming any of the sheet bodywork. Do you use a seam sealer afterwards, or are you not unconcerned about rust forming on the back sides of the riveted-in steel?
Also, no cold gal? We use a lot of it here in Australia. The really good stuff (highest percentage of zinc) beats primer and even paint easily, especially in the sun.
All my sheetmetal is galvannealed and I did prime the backs of the new pieces of flat I riveted on and the back of the run rail!
Armies use chromate & phosphate primer on steel, it seems even better than Galvanizing.
It would be interesting to discover what navies use...
How would you use the powerhouse in the bus? I don't see any way to run 12v stuff off it like a water pump, diesel heater, etc.
It has 2 12v outlets on the front
Random question… after you get your truck boxes installed and your build completed how much do you “estimate” your new bus will be able to tow?
The bus has a gvwr of 25,900 and weighed 13k empty. I’ll guess my whole conversion will add about 5k. So I’ll hardly notice the added weight when driving. The DT466 was common in small dump trucks with gvwr up to 50,000. Id feel totally fine towing 10klbs with it.

How did you find the cheapo harbour freight welder? Did it do a good job. Would you recommend it as a cheaper alternative?
ive been really happy with it, to be honest. I like it more than i expected. For $200 its pretty hard to find faults
Harbor also sells a cheaper flux 125 by Chicago Electric for $140 that I’m looking at. Not sure what it comes with yet like nozzles etc that one may have to buy.

Im a big fan mr i was hoping you would leave room if the bus ever had to be towed and also the dot regulations are anything on the bus trk or rv is 6inches

@@isaacsims6203 I have never seen that regulation and I used to be director of operations for a bus company. I cant find that reg anywhere. Regardless, the lowest point on this bus is 11" and that is the front steps
@@ChuckCassadyYT hi chuck ask a dot officer they will tell ya about the 6 inch law any driving truck the snow chains hanging off side of trk or any part of your trk had to be atleast 6 inches above the ground

This box is 14ga
How's the anker handle the welder cranked up for 3/16? I've tripped the 20A breaker in my garage before with mine.
