  • On February 21st, Australian police finally caught the convicted murderer, Graham Potter, who had been on the run for 12 years. A convicted killer, he had been evading conspiracy to murder charges since 2010. Investigators later found that he had attempted to change his appearance and demeanour to avoid detection - but was eventually found in a dilapidated house in Ravenshoe, in the far north of Queensland. Potter, however, is one of many criminals who go on the run and manage to avoid capture for years, and sometimes even decades. In today’s video, we’ll be exploring two terrifying cases of criminals still on the run.

      In Mormonism, especially at that time, boys were seen as more the fathers than the mothers. Also it would not have been out the realm of possibilities that a judge would give custody of the daughter to the mother, but not the son. A different time. An America where women were all to often treat like second class citizens. When it came to such things as custody and divorce a woman was almost always at a disadvantage. Unless the woman was wealthy and came from a family that was extremely wealthy. Then she might have a better chances, but for the majority of poor or middle class women. A divorce was a one way ticket to extreme poverty. This why many women sensing an impending divorce. Would suddenly start having extra marital affairs. Hoping that the guy would in turn marry them and keep them from that fate.
      Sometimes it even worked. Mostly the woman ended up in extreme poverty with little more than what she has on her back and maybe the house that she would have to sell anyways. Even with kids in tow and the paltry child support. It was never enough to keep up with expenses. This being Missouri. Not noted for being liberal even then. Had she divorced her first husband. Would probably not even gotten the alimony or the house. As her suspected and provable affair would have soured the judge against her.
      Murdering her first husband is not the extreme action it seems at first glance. her other murders were a case of having gotten away with it once. She defaulted to the method that worked for with the first murder. Only this time there was no convenient 2 year old to blame. If she is still alive. She is most likely living in some poor out of the way village. Looking like any village abuela..

      Good point. The criminal lifestyle, with all its dangers, does not generally lead people to die of old age outside prison walls. Whitey Bulger was one of the notable outliers, making it to 89 before his violent end. Those at liberty and hiding from detection must live very fragmented, fraught lives.

      A NJ woman, her sister, and an unknown third person, in the 90's, were caught, check fraud, and stealing from a elderly woman, including her social security check, not to mention caught on bank security cameras. They had to pay it back (Dover/Rockaway NJ). whom gets that deal? Young attractive women. Unfortunately, they were dealing coke, and several of the people, using, DIED, and left children fatherless. Now, the sisters co-own a house they rent, and clean (I guess), and one works with NJ law enforcement (adding insult to injury, hu?). They left a wave of police reports(Ironia, and Butler), even calling the police to protect the coke against a man whom told them to not cut it with his child present. Using police and violence in their racketeering.

    • @darkamora5123
      @darkamora5123 Před 2 měsíci

      True, but a cleaned weapon can be reloaded. That was, after all, just her explanation as to why the weapon was on the bed. She wasn't claiming that it went off while he was actively cleaning it.
      The description by her was just that he was cleaning it. But that only means that he had it out to clean it. He could have fallen asleep before unloading it or cleaned it and then reassembled and reloaded it and fell asleep with it on the bed.

      @darkamora5123 OK, but how many times have you heard the claim that a firearm went off accidentally while it was being cleaned? In almost all cases, it's a lie. A person with Sharons spending habits and string of bodies behind her wouldnt just disappear and live the rest of her life under the radar. She wouldnt be able to stop herself, not from the spending quite quickly, and clearly she went for a gun, whenever she didnt get, what she wanted. No way, she could go under the radar for even a few years, let alone decades.
    I'd say, the best bet is the family helping her escape, so they could kill her. She definitely died within a fairly short time of the prison escape, or traces of her would have surfaced.

Knowing that f!re@rms are just tools and can't, as inanimate objects, be malevolent or dangerous, if we discovered one, we'd clear the area and let cops do the rest. Now we teach our kids how to use them ourselves. I taught my daughters how to use them so they'd never be victims without at least a chance to defend themselves.
      I'm 54. Danger is everywhere. The facade of safety is just that. My father was chief of the local volunteer fire department, and I was running into burning structures with bunker gear and breathing apparatus by 14. At 16, I started driving the fire trucks. I never worked a crime scene, with the exception of discovery and there would be an investigation when the scene was under control. There were other teenagers as well. We took took responsibility, and I took making my father proud seriously. But it was satisfying to serve the community. I'm not being personally specific about anyone, but some people cannot comprehend why anyone would put themselves in danger for a perfect stranger, for free. If you can't, I'm sorry.

    Not for having violently victimized somebody, but I was on Probation in Austin, Texas until it became incompatible with my career. Star Tech PC's bank failed to acknowledge a Stop-Payment order and transferred $550 into my account after a different agreement had been reached.
    Star Tech staff went snitchin to Austin Police Department instead of contacting me about the bank error and I ended up arrested and put on Differed Adjudication.
    Probation tried to send me to Community Service when that wasn't part of the deal reached in Court, plus the band I played bass for was about to go on the road.
    The system squeezed too hard and all I ended up paying back was $250 in 5 months of $50 payments. That was 18 years ago. Had Probation not bothered me about Community Service, the remaining $300 would long have been paid off.

    I'm not positive because I was never a Boy Scout, but in that time period, most young men would have had some knowledge and instruction in firearms safety and handling and there might have been Eagle Scout badges awarded for that?

      I certainly watched at least one gun safety video in school, shown to everyone. Topics such as, if you are hunting, how do you cross a barbed-wire fence when carrying a rifle? If you are with someone? If you are alone? You don't try to hold it while you cross. If you lean it against the fence, it might fall over and go off. And you're probably right about the Eagle Scout badges.

      Technically a pistolero is a gunman. Pistolera is an English language newspaper adding an -a to a masculine noun to make it feminine, but getting it wrong (maybe) because the word already has a meaning.
      So what is a pistolera, if not a gun woman? It's a holster. It is also used colloquially to mean a tight spot (like the British sticky wicket or American pickle, both weird associations for that meaning), or more recently flabby thighs (don't ask me).
      Why did I say they, maybe, got it right? Because, especially back then, women were not valued much beyond producing children. So calling a woman who was carrying a gun a holster also has the implication of being a place for men to put their "guns".
      Given that she was convicted of going back to his hotel room with the pretense of sex and instead attempting robbery and committing murder, it really could have been a subtle way of calling her a whore.

      @vesaroivainen Před 2 měsíci

      @@darkamora5123 so basically everyone with a gun is a pistolero or a pistolera yeah right... give me a break 🤣

    • @darkamora5123
      @darkamora5123 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@vesaroivainen no. First, the word is pistolero regardless of whether the person is male or female. Second there is the association that they are shooting, just like in English.
      Like how people talk about the JFK assassination and say there was a second gunman. There were dozens of police and secret service agents with guns that day but only a lone gunman (or maybe a pair of them).
      The most literal translation is actually pistoleer not anything with gun in it, but that is a term that hasn't been used in English regularly for over a century. Though it carries all the connotations that gunman does, or gunslinger, shooter et cetera. That one is actively shooting (or was actively shooting in the past when you earned the description).
      Once again pistolera (with an -A) doesn't mean any of that in Spanish. It is just the holster for a gun. So either an understandable mistranslation by an English speaker or a subtle insult by a bilingual writer who wanted to imply she was a trashy woman.

      Can't speak for the current situation, but there was a LOT of violent social unrest going on in Mexico back then. It is probably less that they were more insightful than just a stfu I have a dozen trials to get done today. Like f-ing traffic court, "Police said it, must be true" attitude.
      Mind, I don't think that they were wrong just saying that was a big thing in the Mexican justice system at the time. And they probably thought her trying to kill a witness was a good reason to disbelieve her.
      After all, "Hello, hotel staff. What is going on, is everyone okay? I heard a gunshot. I'm coming in." Shouldn't earn a bullet unless you are eliminating a witness. I mean she waited until he was inside the room and saw her, whereas if she had been attacked and was jumpy she'd likely have shot when startled by the knocking.

It's like they don't understand the whole century is 2000s. Though one could argue that it's even farther in the future than you say as mid 2000s numerically could also be 2400-2600.
