The African Queen (1935) Taking place in German East-African (Tanzania) at the beginning of World War 1 (1914-1918 referred to as The Great War not WW1 since WW2 had begun) a refined missionary woman named Rose Sayer finds herself isolated after her brother dies and the village natives are involuntarily drafted into the local German Army. A small steam powered supply ship, African Queen, captained by Charlie Allnutt, takes Rose on board and they steam down the Ulanga (aka Kilombero) River, encountering danger and adventure, not the least of which are each other.
In 1951, a film adaptation was released starring the eminent actors Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. They were respectively nominated for best actor and actress for the 1952 Academy Awards with Bogart receiving the Oscar.
C.S. Forester (1899-1966) Cecil Scott was born in Cairo Egypt and raised in London England. He initially studied medicine before dropping out to purse writing. Most of his novels have a navel setting and his best-known work is the Horatio Hornblower series which later was made into a TV miniseries. More recently the Tom Hank’s film Greyhound was adapted from Forester’s novel The Good Shepard.
Quote: I formed a resolution to never write a word I did not want to write...
Edward Woodward (1930-2009) After his acting education, this English actor began his career in theater before moving on to British television. His breakout hit was starring as a spy in the British TV series Callan. But it was the American series The Equalizer which earned him his widest recognition along with 5 Emmy nominations. Enjoy his performance in this audio presentation of The African Queen.

Indeed.! You could say : it was how he did everything ! From acting to
singing he just radiated a kind of effortless calm . Whenever you saw him you just knew you were
      in safe hands.
