- During my last stream we built the foundation for the Dark Magician deck I'm going to be playing at YCS Niagara Falls.
After some revision, with some help, I've created what I think is a solid start to a long journey.

Dont underestimate the idea of playing one copy of Instant Fusion. Summon Winda for free body to immediately Link off or something.
Then end on Selene and use her quick effect to summon back Winda on the opponent's turn. Something to think about as an extra line of play.
Also instant fusion for Millenium Eyes is always great.

@@MatchieYGO I'm also an Endymion fan, and that's a line of play for the deck. A lot of people forget Selene is very versatile, especially with her being a quick effect. She doesn't exist just to make Accesscode.

Of all the DM decks you've built, this is by far the most interesting. I'll always love Branded/DM, but this new deck might be the most versatile DM variant so far. Can't wait to see it in action.

Hype!! After the livestream I tried building a Toy Box variant on my own, and think using Wyvernberster / Black Dragon / Chaos Valkyria is also worth considering. Definitely doesn’t seem as gas as playing Cartesia / Quem, but Spheres remains a busted card and in exchange they open up a looot of ED space for more versatile techs in the event you don’t get to the full Toy Box combo (I believe they’re also better to draw if you get handtrapped early, and cut a ‘brick’ in Schism). Valkyria is your second search target you can get to by reviving Soldier with Tank, and can dump your DM card of choice (DMG/Mahad/Mana) for an extra draw off of Soul Servant. These also justify adding Chaos Space, which can also search IOC.
TLDR my thought is if you exchange Cartesia lines for infinite link fodder, should you be able to win anyways without committing as much cards to a line of play that only resolves if you’re already in a strong position?
Also, I think Chicken Game is too free to not include, even if you go above 40-card’s a free draw that’s also a free send for Souls/Diabel/Droplet send and a free Spell for Selene.
BUT these are all just thoughts and def wanna thank you for always bringing new ideas to this deck-looking forward to future developments!

I've been running a DM deck with the toy engine but my light monster is mirrorsword knight and I have a small branded chimera package in the deck. It feels like such a yugi deck when you have Chimera and DM on field.

Awesome video! Quick question, is there a budget option to playing this list without the sinful spoils package? I was looking to make the list for my brother and those cards are way out of price range and the shop we play at doesn't allow proxies.
I'm absolutely not a DM player. Like, I don't know why there's no Circles in the list x)
But I watched the entire video. That's true Deck profile. There's thoughts behind them, and full ( almost ) explanations.
Very well presented.
Maybe though filming and talking should not be done separately, because it creates weird times when you either accelerate or slow down the pace.
From a competitive view, this list is quite good. But you already know that 10 staples is not enough. That's the difference between meta and the others..
With only 10 spots, maybe you should fully commit to board breakers. You don't want to cut Droplet because of synergy to play more HT's.
TTT and Enemy controller are kinda good and versatile this format. It steals Apo's, It makes you dodge stuff and your normal summons .. And board breakers are way better to draw when you go 2nd. You don't want to see HT's.
Yeah sure it's better to draw HT's when you go 1st, but do you want to facilitate going 1st or going 2nd ? Maybe you don't 3 Droplets, 3 TTT, 3 E-con, 1 Called by.
3 Imperm, 2 TTT, 2 E-con, 3 Droplet ? Multiple TTT is horrible.

One critique I would say is to include Bagooska instead of Daigusto Emeral

A week ago I would’ve 100% agreed with you, but after a lot of testing having Daigusto Em to bring DM back feels pretty decent in the grind game or if you open Timaeus you just make a dragoon.
I think we need a way to bring DM back that’s not Selene

so here is my question but what if any part of the diabellstar engine specifically witch or wanted get hit on the next ban list to like 1 copy each or something like that would that specific engine for the deck still be playable at that point if that comes to fruition plus i would expect konami to hit that and the snake eyes especially after nats for said ban list as is in some way shape or form also if this does happen with said ban list what would you put as i guess the replacement cards in said deck if again they do decide to hit those cards in that way for whenever we do get the next ban list
Honestly. We can only use and prep with what we know is legal now. When and If the engine does get hit, then we’ll need to revisit the list and adjust accordingly.
I’m not a fan of prepping for hypothetical post banlist, (example, I’ve expected sanctifier dragon to be hit on the last 2 ban lists, but here we are lol)

Why did you change your mind on Ash Blossom? When triple tactics is so prevalent?
Felt like the hand trap being always live is a bit better, as if you draw into it going first, it feels very strong. Debated on playing effect Veiler, but ash hit more decks.
TTT is still a great option.

One thing i didnt get is, in the screenshot with the whole main deck, why did u add a original sinful spoils? u dont have any lvl 1 fire to summon? wouldnt silvera be better option for the case that u can only summon diabellstar and the rest of the hand is brick?

That’s a mistake, the card you should be using is Sinful Spoils of Doom (it’s in the actual deck profile haha) my bad.

what about maybe removing 1 imperm for 1 silvera? searchable, and negates any card on field for ever, not til end of turn
Toy box can enable a rank 4 play, maybe Abyss Dweller to disrupt Snake Eyes

Personally im not so sure about this list, it looks decent on paper but only time will tell how far it will go. I dont want to be that guy who questions a deck when it hasn't had the chance to prove its worth yet. Let me knows how it works out for ya.
Criticism makes for better deck building. I think the deck does need work, but it did have a very impressive showing at my first locals run with it
What about Duality? Did you take it off because it wasn't consistent enough or we don't need it in this deck variation?
@@kuuroh4584 we don’t need it in this decks variation, it doesn’t come up enough. It works Infinitely better in the DM branded lists I’ve posted in the past
question here: are the toy cards sent by droplet considered monsters or spells? So we know our opponent cannot react with monster effects
They would be sent as monsters :)
Couple of things:
Dont play handtraps in this. A single handtrap dosent stop any combo nowadays, you may as well be hand-ripping yourself. Handtraps should only ever be played in decks with 12/13+ slots for non engine. You NEED to open multiples to be effective with them. I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend just playing additional breakers/equalizers in DRNM and possibly Evenly Matched.
2ndly but Primoredials will be coming a day before that YCS event so they should be on your radar if you really are interested in testing as much as possible for DM before the YCS.

I’m in total agreement with you on this topic 99% of the time. This is the odd time, where my theory goes against this idea, I’d like to explain:
1: I don’t think Board breakers are equalizers right now, taking a look at the best decks. With exception of Voiceless; Branded, Snake-eyes, Tempai, all don’t care about board breakers. Evenly and dark ruler, sure they can deal with the board in front of you, but a deck like snake eyes, most of their interactions don’t come form the field, both snake eyes and branded is going to kill you in the grind game anyways, and cards like Evenly, DRNM, ect, don’t give you the chance to game. Tempai is a going 2nd deck where they won’t let you even activate your board breakers.
2 sure cards like DRNM, Evenly, all those options slaughter other matchups, but those matchups are also weak to ash, Imperm, and we do have droplet for that aswell. In addition we have the engine to break through most boards IMO.
3 I don’t think trying to stop a combo compeltyl is ever plausible, the idea of ash, imp is to slow them down enough to a point where you stand a chance of dealing with them.
4 finally, going first and drawing so many cards, I’d rather draw into ash, Imperm rather than DRNM, evenly.
That being said, to your point. I do 100% agree that adding more handtraps to the list is going to be beneficial and something I’m planning on exploring.

@@MatchieYGO Hmm Im gonna have to push back against that. I think all these strategies that you listed have a swimmingly good time playing through a single Ash or Imperm. I have not played much against Tenpai to know for certain if that is the case but I did used to play Voiceless quite a bit. DRNM and Evenly were merely just suggestions, perhaps there is something else that may fit better because I absolutely agree with you that boardbreakers dont single handedly deal with meta boards. But then again the same can be said in the case of a single Ash or Imperm. As a whole I forsee a DRNM or evenly doing more to cripple a board state against those deck then Ash/Imperm. As always testing and definte results are ideal but this is just theory atm. Perhaps its a case of both of us being right and there being no objectively right answer.
@@MatchieYGO For sure! This may be the 1st Toy Box list Ive seen that looks good as I had mostly written it off. I quite like the Diabell engine in particular instead of tunnel visioning into Souls turbo.
Ive been extensively testing the Primoredials this past week and still getting comfortable with them and testing different ideas. There is absolutely a lot to love about them and should be highly considered by Dark Magician enjoyers. In laymen terms, comapred to Toy Box I would say that Primoredials feel more consistent and cohesive as a strategy paired with DM whereas Toy Box has a much higher ceiling. For ex in my DM Primoredial lists I have room for 13 non engine. Its a good time finally to be a DM player!

Like I said, I think you’re idea is right almost 100% in most situations. It’s the idea that, these decks, letting them go uninterrupted and setting up a board, follow up, it doesn’t matter if you leave them with 0 cards on the field, they’ll just beat you on the follow up,
I’m not more so concerned with using ash or Imperm to stop their combo, im more so thinking about letting them establish a board, with limited follow up, and then trying to let my engine take care of the rest.
Is that ideal? most def not, but the other option of letting them do everything they want to uninterrupted, on turn 3 we are cooked mater what we clear and or set up. (This example is obviously for snake-eyes and branded specifically)
I don’t think there is even an argument for other decks in the format, board breakers, are prob just as good if not a bit better than HT’s (if played in low numbers) but I think we can deal with other decks in the format a bit more comfortably
I'm confused on El Shaddoll Apkallone and Shaddoll Schism how can you summon Apkallone when there are no Shaddoll monsters in the main. Am I missing something?
Cartesia summons Granguignol, Granguignol sends Apkallone from the extra deck to the graveyard, Apkallone activates to search Shaddoll Schism and discard a card, Schism fusion summons Winda by banishing Apkallone and one dark monster such as Magician's Rod. You never summon Apkallone in a list like this.

Play more hand traps, or try finding another engine to fit in there. Maybe up the number of cartiesa’s ? Or if there is another engine that pitches for cost

I don’t think. That’s more of a card to helps shining sarcophagus
I feel the largest problem here, especially at a YCS level, is going to be playing around or through droll & lock. As a long time dark world player, they will have it, and you need to prepare for it in more ways than 'draw the called by. I honestly feel finding space for a crossout package is what the deck needs to go smoothly
Droll will be a problem and Ghost Ogre will be a problem, since Toy Box's effect is an ignition effect, not an activation effect.
That’s something that we’ll have to analyze in the coming months, I do agree with you though, every deck is good uninterrupted lol. We need to find the most optimal ways to play through multiple interruptions and cards like droll, ogre, ect.
Crossout designator x3 then add 1 copy of the most problematic cards you don't want to deal with.
Upcoming format will probably have more boardbreakers then HT
@@eliasakkerman4597 people have been saying that for months. I don't think it's realistic when the top decks have so many ways to float and build such layered defenses.

Dark magician girl + toy monster can make chaos angel easily.
Sometimes i’ll consider adding more bricks like apprentice, where soul discard apprentice to special summon itself, toy soldier search cartesia/quem, tank release itself to special summon apprentice from GY, apprentice search for DM. Summon cartesia/quem so that cartesia can make a fusion summon
There are other ways you can make chaos angle too, mahad, rod, DM rod…
Apprentice is interesting, but I’d only consider apprentice if I’m playing DM at more than 1.

Can anyone come up with a 2 card Souls + Toy Box combo that can put up a negate before 5 summons and then keep going?
I've been trying with Apo but haven't been successful. Having a way to do that would be huge for this variant I feel because any combos that fully utilize the Toy Box cards play head long into hand traps, specifically Nibiru.

I don't think this is very possible. You're already at 3 summons after resolving souls and pitching the toys, so to make appo at 5 summons would require normalling quem then making 4 mat appo, which leaves you with 0 plays
appo on summon 5 does work, but you need extenders in hand to play after…
Another option is making SP, so that if your opponent does have nib, you can dodge nib with some of your board.
Still need to work on a few lines, but I’m sure there are ways to do it

Bro, I am trying Toy Box, but the only issue is that you literally have 3 extra bricks (Toy Tank, Toy Soldier, and Barrier Statue of Light) with your 3 bricks already. I don't want to get rid of DMG... but I might just do that and go Mahad only.
Also, I am surprised you just didn't go calamity lock with toy soldier. But I like your version of the deck much more. I was thinking of using white wood, but Diabellestar seems a lot better honestly.
I think toy tank is the only brick, I don’t hate toy soldier as a normal summon.
But I do love the advantage the deck generates, it’s solid

respectfully, why did you chose not to run the light barrier statue? that card going first can win some games outright, especially with toy box's effect to destroy an attacking monster
100% barrier statue is a viable option, I just felt like winda does the same thing, but also allows you to establish a better board with quem / Cartesia.
Obviously it’s more steps, but the flexibility schism has felt really nice.

Just wait until Fiendsmith comes out. That tells you why Barrier Statue of the Heavens will become super useless because Fiendsmith are LIGHT monsters.

I’ll explain it on my next live and or video, it’s a lot of theory that went into the decision lol.
Long story short, hand traps are a little too good right now, and being punished is a risk worth taking

1 DM seems dangerous. If it was banished then done 😢
Idk what's the point of playing only 6 hts. Every deck can play through 1 hand trap like fully 90% of the time and chances are you ain't drawing both. Hts are great when you can play 12+ so that you can draw 2 or more but usually board breakers are better when you can only fit 9.
You can look at what dink kha bui did with chimera illusion deck not too long ago
@@INib_ totally a fair point and something I’ve been trying to work around.
My theory is: 12 hand traps would obviously be ideal, but even then, you play 12 hand traps becusse you have 1 card starters, in this list majority of the deck is 2 card starters which doesn’t make sense to clog the main deck with HT’s assuming you don’t have enough engine to help.
To which the argument is “just play breakers” well the problem with breakers is that you’re letting snake eyes play completely uninterrupted, and the idea is that if you open 2+ breakers, youre gona be able to clear the board but you won’t be able to kill them that turn. And if you don’t win that turn, uninterrupted snake eyes or whatever, will kill you on the follow up.
The idea of just the ash and Imperm (disregarding droplet) isn’t to stop them completely, because that’s just not possible. IF we can utilizes 1 hand trap to maybe stop a line, or hinder follow up, that’s enough for me, because then engine can kind of compete.
Something we need to remember, is that we are playing a less then rouge deck. That being said, sometimes it’s completely fair to gamble on the idea that 1 ash or 1 Imperm is enough if the opp didn’t open optimally. Majority of the time, if you do open 3 hand traps in a deck like this, you need to make sure your 2 card combo is able to play, and if your opp has that hand trap… unlucky I guess.
Now all that is in regards to snake eyes. For rouge strats and tier 2-3 decks, yeah I think 3-6 HT’s + droplets can be enough.
HOWEVER!!! You make great points, and I have been working on a way to fit more HT’s in the build, trying to play the 9 + Droplets. The point you made of drawing into other HT’s is nice

Wouldnt this be more like a magicians soul deck instead of a dm deck? 🤔
I would also add dark magical circle, and maybe eternal soul. Just great cards to mix with dark magician and give you a kind of unbreakable board with eternal soul, magical circle, and dark magician the dragon knight
problem is that he is not playing the dragon knight with how extremely tight the extra deck is. Only deck where dragon knight has a place I'd say is branded dark magician (I play that myself). Soul and Circle just require too much setup to be activated and when soul leaves the field you're done for. Also even if you have Soul, Circle and Dragon Knight on the field, Dragon Knight is not that hard to swing over in this current format.
Thanks for the suggestion, I’m personally not a fan of DMC and ES, it feels awful when you open parts of it and can’t get to the rest of the pieces, and when you do see them, it’s so much set up for 1 banish. Isn’t worth it when you put everything else into perspective.
Eternal Soul is more of a determent than a help and soul is only useful for DM turbo. Think he made right call not to run them in this type of DM deck

Calling this a Dark magician deck is a stretch. It's the Magician's Souls/Soul Servant engine, with the complimentary Mahad and Timaeus to make it less of a brick in themselves; strapped on top of a Toy engine, and a diabellstar combo.
But no Dark Magic Circle? No Eternal Soul? No Magician's Navigation? come on... (Okay, maybe not Magician's Navigation, if you only play 1 copy of DM himself.)
Dark Magician as an archetype is really big, and has so many cards, that I find it hard to make ANY deck with them, that'd fit the 40 card size, even if I only include a handful of handtraps other than the Dark Magician engine. (I also go for Ash and Inperm for handtraps most of the time as well, sometimes with the occassional Veiler, as it's also a target for Seleene, if I want to climb into Accesscode.
ehhhh.. why do u have Original Sinful Spoils when you have no Level 1 FIRE monsters ??
I would recommend these,
1- Cut Diabellastar to 1 - Wanted to 2 (you don't relay much on them, cus they just extenders)
2- Add instead 3 Drolls
3- Cut Soul Servant to 2, add 1 Sinful Supervision instead and of course I would assume Sinful spoils of Doom is instead of the Original Sinful Spoils
4- Droplet to 2 and add instead 1 Prepration so u can have 4 Illusion of Chaos which leads to souls each turn
5- REPLACE the Daigusto with Dweller (this will help you in pretty much all duels)
I played this deck before and the worst thing about it, if you don't open with souls the Toy box is just dead card.
Sooooo, you're saying that the biggest problem is toy box being dead, while also saying to cut down on diabellstar, a card that makes toybox not dead 🤔
