I mean, don't get me wrong, people are free to do whatever they want since that's the whole point of original species. However, when making something you expect to be "believable" (as opposed to a full-on fantasy species) it's better to try to stick as close to actual science/nature as possible. Things like Citras would've made more sense being presented as just some fantasy species instead of this poorly executed sci-fi concept.
its definitely a weird concept, as like Kamyczek said, there's no gay gene, there's no real innate nature to homosexuality. But you know its fiction. Its just such a weird concept. And yeah at that point you have to answer the question "how do they reproduce then?" because, the already weird concept brings attention to that, so that's a problem all on its own. And I guess the "the straight ones are the only ones that breed" other than the inbreeding issue, I guess is the least weird way to fix that issue. I can only think of two others; asexual reproduction, lose a limb, makes a new citra. Which would be fun because their insides could look like the fruit. But still be weird. Or male pregnancy. Which yaknow, is weird. But its a weird concept in general. Add on top of that the "genetic purity" stuff and we've gone full wacko territory, but it only gets worse when you find out these hyper sexual creatures are very short... I feel like you should've mentioned him using actual kids in swimsuits as references for his cub art sooner in the video. That's a massive red flag, especially with him being friends with Dragoneer who didn't seem to care that Growly is a pedo and the SA allegations.
This video was meant to be about Citra but I couldn't talk about them without talking about the creator. If I talked about the stuff he did before the species I think most would skip the video entirely.
To be fair, any aspiring artists should know that children and adults have different proportions, even down to facial structures and number of bones in the body you can't use an adult to reference how a child looks when you are trying to draw children. I cannot speak for the other irreprehensible stuff though

I dont think its so much zoophiles snaking their way in as much as its an unfortunate reality of what furrys are in relation to zoophilia. They are not the same of course, but if someone is into zoophila in any way why would they not go into the furry community?
So, sadly (because of the content of the video past the cute appearence of the citra) this reminded me of a species i tried to make. A species of mice with spoons for tails, that help make coffee or tea in shops and mostly on trains. They make it really well and the only payment they ask for is a little bit of the tea or coffee for themselves.
Due to a change in Furaffinity policy, characters under the age of 13 can't be depicted in content on the site that is NSFW. So of course this led to the ban of Zaush. Considering his history with Dragoneer we'll see if the ban lasts.

So freaking tired of people in the furry, and art community at large, being forgiven for their atrocities so quickly or at all. While I am not part of the furry community and largely am just a spectator, it's so crazy how time and time again you can basically infect someone with Stockholm syndrome, so long as you can draw decently well.
That's what happen when you have community of mostly minorities. They're social outcasts to an extent, and thus they gravitate to whatever sense of belonging and connection they can get, because they don't want to face isolation. On top of that, in a setting focused on escapism they don't want to pull out of the fantasy to fix it's broken parts because that means confronting the evils of the world they're escaping from.
I was once a member of the greater fandom at large. Now, that is not the case due to stuff like this. Even when I was, I was still sick of crap like this!
and you know damn well that if they _didn't_ draw as well as they did no one would forgive them. i hate that we act like talent is more important than someone being a good person or not. sure their art is good but there are other good, even much better artists out there, and it's hard to separate art from the artist when the details of the citra are connected to who the artist is as a person

Honestly, the fact that this guy wanted to make an original species and make them “perfect” in his eyes while also giving them that lab creation backstory reminds me of The High Evolutionary from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. He experimented on helpless animals to create the “perfect people” (including poor Rocket) but all he really wanted was to have power and control over others by playing God. Zaush gives me such similar vibes just from watching this alone.

The foxes were cute. Reminded me of the Pokèmon from the anime that ate berries and had different skin patterns. It happens in biology with flamingos changing pink from eating shrimp I believe.
I think I remember hearing about a part in the anime where Ash, Misty, Brock, and of course Pikachu, go to an island where all of the pokemon are pink. Can't remember what the island was called though.
I accidentally created a very similar creature to citra in high school called lemur dogs, but their only weird sexuality thing was that they naturally had four biological sexes.

I'm not a furry, but I am in some fandoms that tend to overlap and end up seeing a lot of furry content in my feeds as a result, so I thank people like you for bringing people like this to my attention so I can preemptively block them and people who support them. I've already had Kero the wolf cross my feed before and if it weren't for videos like this, I wouldn't have known to avoid that person or the person in my feed that was retweeting him. Also I like your Vtuber avatar. It's one of the most creative ones I've seen so far.
I remember I found out about this species two or so years ago, and I somehow managed to gloss over the problematic elements of their lore. I wanted to try writing a thing about them due to how easy it would be for their species to go endangered or extinct. At the time I didn't know how problematic Zaush was, I just thought he drew a lot of infidelity stuff that already made me uncomfortable enough to not want anything to do with him.

See what always sucks about these people is they have artistic talent. Like.. the art itself is adorable. If I didn't know their past transgressions there'd be a probability this would be a kind of piece I'd wanna get sometime. I will start by saying this is from an outside-looking-in perspective. CZcams recommended this video to me, perhaps because the AI wants me to speak my perspective. Those who do not deserve artistic talent usually obtain it anyways, as they do not preoccupy themselves with morals, so they shamelessly pursue artistic endeavors. They are so preoccupied with "I want to, and I can" that they do not ever consider "Should I draw this?", while those who would stand up for decency and morality have a tendency of foregoing development of talent to crusade against immorality. That is the most non-esoteric explanation I can give. Of course, you could chalk it up some David Icke-inspired, tin foil helmet wearing conspiracy theory about the blue furry hexagon and the storm on the north pole of saturn, which has the same shape and colour as the aforementioned furry symbol, as well, but I don't think ya'll're ready for that. (Or maybe you are, and that's why the Algorithm brought me here.)
I think this type of style doesn't really require much of artistic talent, only patience and practice and following tutorials/go-throughs and making a ton of studies; art is a learnt skill. And what they choose to do with the skill is sadly upto them. Which sucks, but could be fixed with strict policies on art platforms and actually punishing people for such things. It won't stop people from drawing the stuff, but at least they wouldn't be able to publish it anywhere and build their platform around it.

talent isnt something you are given, its something you procure with lots of work. Which, I think makes it worse. This man didnt just happen upon artistic talent one day and decide to use it for evil. In the US, it's actually illegal to draw CP, whether or not it's a fictional character. He could very well get arrested for that comic, and I hope he does.
I think with that law it has to look like it could be a human person and/or can prove the child's age. Like if you make up a 7 year old child with AI then have realistic porn drawn of them that's child porn because even though it's not a real person it looks exactly or enough like a child. If an actual 15 year old can make themselves look 20 it's still illegal if it can be proven without a doubt their underage (if you can't tell by looking, like you can very easily with younger kids. It's why websites are supposed to make you prove your age to post porn because in court they have to prove the age of the individual if it goes that far. And if it's a child any parent or government official could very easily do that with a birth certificate, driver license, school records etc.). So honestly it's not too hard to prove their age even if they look 20. But this is also why women over 18, who can look a bit younger than the legal age can post porn of themselves because they can prove they are of age and are allowed and no amount of anything can stop them from doing it. But drawing child porn of Liza Simpson isn't counted under this law because Liza doesn't look like a real person and if you show someone who has never seen the Simpsons her regular character sheet they probably wouldn't be able to tell you her age or that she is supposed to be human. At least this is how the law works in America. He will never get arrested for his gross cub garage. Do you seriously think if that was the case the person making this video or anyone could just find the pictures on any old website so easily. It's very gross but lying to give cold comfort to people isn't doing anything.

Here's what I'd do for a fruity species (maybe a pun on fruit bats): - Not shoehorn Lamarckist pseudoscience into it - Not limit their sexuality in any way (bisexuality would be most common though) - Have not only their color but certain other traits vary by fruit consumed (combinations, like blue raspberry, are possible), but their body shapes would still vary by individual, and the flavor of their meat and even their blood color/flavor would be affected as well, and it could actually change with their diet (omnivorous but still eating fruit) - Have said fruit can even include tomatoes or zuchinni (those are not vegetables despite what the agricultural industry want you to believe) - They would make fruit puns a lot - I would rather go with pterosaurs than bats (pterosaurs had fur despite what those in arbitrary denial based on outdated paleontological models claim), and they would probably blur the line between anthro and feral - Reference more obscure fruit like durians, kiwanos, dragonfruit, and starfruit (glyptodont-like shells, spikes more for defense than attack, soft scale-like structures, and an unusual general body shape respectively I guess) - The name would be more original, maybe fructodactyls?

Honestly, I hate Zaush too. And it doesn't help that he used images of real kids as reference for his underage NSFW stuff. I also make original species too (hell, my fursona is my own original species (a kalgory)), and there really isn't anything special about Citra when you don't count the creator (they are literally just citrus-colored foxes). Considering Dragoneer's history, I don't think Zaush's ban from FA would last very long....
I don't know why I keep forgetting that the owners and head admins of FurAffinity are a shady and nefarious bunch, but this recent stuff with Zaush getting banned off the site just reinforces so much context. They really do like to practice that whole "Rules for thee, and not for Me" mentality, ehh, no wonder why everyone on the site has been worried about getting randomly banned for now. And also, his species is just garbage, and their creation is hilariously strange and off the wall in the worst way. With the new policy change + the shit I've been finding out about Dragoneer that I never knew, I'm grateful that I didn't use FurAffinity long enough to grow attached to the site. I remember being bummed out that the fandoms I'm in were too "niche" at the time for me to really find a community there, but in retrospect maybe it was for the best that I just stay on Tumblr even with the issues that site has.
I'm not involved in the furry community or original species, I kinda just consume too much internet drama content. But if I had a nickel for a species I've heard about that was written as a genetically engineered creature made for a specific purpose through Furry Eugenics I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.
Studies concluded if you find a foxsona there's a 95% chance they will be gay. What's really fucked is how many people might be completely unaware of certain artists dark side, and then either considering them their favorite or directly commissioning them. It's a small fear I have that it'll turn out one of my favorites turns out to draw cub. The furry art community feels like a minefield sometimes.
Fruit themed furries are a fun design if it has boundaries but course some folk are not genuinely good which is a shame as furry community gets a bad rap in general unfortunately.

Hope you don’t mind a year late reply, but hermaphrodite usually applies to a whole species that has mixed sex characteristics, like snails (just the first real-world example that comes to mind). If a species typically has traits of one sex or another, an individual with both is intersex. There’s also different terms for different intersex conditions.

Technically, my furry characters can wear clothes, but they don't have to. The way their fur grows covers their privates, so there's no need for them to wear clothes at all.
Shadow felines are a dysfunctional species that are biologically made- artificial beings made by a mad scientist in a universe of anthropomorphic animals to make breakthroughs in medicine. They often have deformities (from extra eyes to extra heads) and are usually biologically genderless or infertile. They are all made for their own purpose, and can usually feel pain. Anna is a Shadow Feline with cyclopia who can only understand palindromes, and Tom, Tim and Tam are conjoined triplets. Star has no eyes, and Seven Shadows was a Frankenstein's Monster. They can be tall, short, heavy, thin... but they all have one thing in common- mostly jet black fur. Their existence is cruel and sad :(

Well I am not interested solely in the person responsible for the creation of these creatures but judging by the video and comments I assumed he/she was horrible. I am more worried that in general communities interested in drawing animals and constructing new species doesn’t consider being inspired by the biological facts and most of the time neglets them implying modern human logic to worlds and species which should be separated from that (that is the whole point of escapism)

It admittedly does still kinda' kill the escapism aspect that you mentioned, but it's slightly easier to ignore than, say, an alien race who lives in another dimension yet somehow uses human terminology. Unless the culture evolved alongside humanity's (like it kinda/sorta did in this case), a fictional species would be far more likely to have their own fictional equivalents or would possibly even lack such concepts altogether.
100% agreed on the whole thing about people not using biological facts for inspiration. I mean, don't get me wrong, people are free to do whatever they want since that's the whole point of original species. However, when making something you expect to be "believable" (as opposed to a full-on fantasy species) it's better to try to stick as close to actual science/nature as possible. Things like Citras would've made more sense being presented as just some fantasy species instead of this poorly executed sci-fi concept.

its definitely a weird concept, as like Kamyczek said, there's no gay gene, there's no real innate nature to homosexuality. But you know its fiction. Its just such a weird concept. And yeah at that point you have to answer the question "how do they reproduce then?" because, the already weird concept brings attention to that, so that's a problem all on its own. And I guess the "the straight ones are the only ones that breed" other than the inbreeding issue, I guess is the least weird way to fix that issue. I can only think of two others; asexual reproduction, lose a limb, makes a new citra. Which would be fun because their insides could look like the fruit. But still be weird. Or male pregnancy. To be fair, any aspiring artists should know that children and adults have different proportions, even down to facial structures and number of bones in the body you can't use an adult to reference how a child looks when you are trying to draw children. So freaking tired of people in the furry, and art community at large, being forgiven for their atrocities so quickly or at all. While I am not part of the furry community and largely am just a spectator, it's so crazy how time and time again you can basically infect someone with Stockholm syndrome, so long as you can draw decently well.
That's what happen when you have community of mostly minorities. They're social outcasts to an extent, and thus they gravitate to whatever sense of belonging and connection they can get, because they don't want to face isolation.
On top of that, in a setting focused on escapism they don't want to pull out of the fantasy to fix it's broken parts because that means confronting the evils of the world they're escaping from.
I was once a member of the greater fandom at large. Now, that is not the case due to stuff like this. Even when I was, I was still sick of crap like this!

Honestly, the fact that this guy wanted to make an original species and make them “perfect” in his eyes while also giving them that lab creation backstory reminds me of The High Evolutionary from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. He experimented on helpless animals to create the “perfect people” (including poor Rocket) but all he really wanted was to have power and control over others by playing God. Zaush gives me such similar vibes just from watching this alone.

I accidentally created a very similar creature to citra in high school called lemur dogs, but their only weird sexuality thing was that they naturally had four biological sexes.

I remember I found out about this species two or so years ago, and I somehow managed to gloss over the problematic elements of their lore. I wanted to try writing a thing about them due to how easy it would be for their species to go endangered or extinct. At the time I didn't know how problematic Zaush was, I just thought he drew a lot of infidelity stuff that already made me uncomfortable enough to not want anything to do with him.

Yeah, I too find it sad that someone has excellent artistic talent and they go use it to create something real questionable and tasteless.
I will start by saying this is from an outside-looking-in perspective. CZcams recommended this video to me, perhaps because the AI wants me to speak my perspective. Those who do not deserve artistic talent usually obtain it anyways, as they do not preoccupy themselves with morals, so they shamelessly pursue artistic endeavors. They are so preoccupied with "I want to, and I can" that they do not ever consider "Should I draw this?", while those who would stand up for decency and morality have a tendency of foregoing development of talent to crusade against immorality.
That is the most non-esoteric explanation I can give.
Of course, you could chalk it up some David Icke-inspired, tin foil helmet wearing conspiracy theory about the blue furry hexagon and the storm on the north pole of saturn, which has the same shape and colour as the aforementioned furry symbol, as well, but I don't think ya'll're ready for that. (Or maybe you are, and that's why the Algorithm brought me here.)
I think this type of style doesn't really require much of artistic talent, only patience and practice and following tutorials/go-throughs and making a ton of studies; art is a learnt skill. And what they choose to do with the skill is sadly upto them. Which sucks, but could be fixed with strict policies on art platforms and actually punishing people for such things. It won't stop people from drawing the stuff, but at least they wouldn't be able to publish it anywhere and build their platform around it.

I think with that law it has to look like it could be a human person and/or can prove the child's age. Like if you make up a 7 year old child with AI then have realistic porn drawn of them that's child porn because even though it's not a real person it looks exactly or enough like a child. If an actual 15 year old can make themselves look 20 it's still illegal if it can be proven without a doubt their underage (if you can't tell by looking, like you can very easily with younger kids. It's why websites are supposed to make you prove your age to post porn because in court they have to prove the age of the individual if it goes that far. And if it's a child any parent or government official could very easily do that with a birth certificate, driver license, school records etc.). So honestly it's not too hard to prove their age even if they look 20. But this is also why women over 18, who can look a bit younger than the legal age can post porn of themselves because they can prove they are of age and are allowed and no amount of anything can stop them from doing it. But drawing child porn of Liza Simpson isn't counted under this law because Liza doesn't look like a real person and if you show someone who has never seen the Simpsons her regular character sheet they probably wouldn't be able to tell you her age or that she is supposed to be human. At least this is how the law works in America. He will never get arrested for his gross cub garage. Do you seriously think if that was the case the person making this video or anyone could just find the pictures on any old website so easily. It's very gross but lying to give cold comfort to people isn't doing anything.

Here's what I'd do for a fruity species (maybe a pun on fruit bats):
- Not shoehorn Lamarckist pseudoscience into it
- Not limit their sexuality in any way (bisexuality would be most common though)
- Have not only their color but certain other traits vary by fruit consumed (combinations, like blue raspberry, are possible), but their body shapes would still vary by individual, and the flavor of their meat and even their blood color/flavor would be affected as well, and it could actually change with their diet (omnivorous but still eating fruit)
- Have said fruit can even include tomatoes or zuchinni (those are not vegetables despite what the agricultural industry want you to believe)
- They would make fruit puns a lot
- I would rather go with pterosaurs than bats (pterosaurs had fur despite what those in arbitrary denial based on outdated paleontological models claim), and they would probably blur the line between anthro and feral
- Reference more obscure fruit like durians, kiwanos, dragonfruit, and starfruit (glyptodont-like shells, spikes more for defense than attack, soft scale-like structures, and an unusual general body shape respectively I guess)
- The name would be more original, maybe fructodactyls?

Honestly, I hate Zaush too. And it doesn't help that he used images of real kids as reference for his underage NSFW stuff. I also make original species too (hell, my fursona is my own original species (a kalgory)), and there really isn't anything special about Citra when you don't count the creator (they are literally just citrus-colored foxes).
Considering Dragoneer's history, I don't think Zaush's ban from FA would last very long....
I don't know why I keep forgetting that the owners and head admins of FurAffinity are a shady and nefarious bunch, but this recent stuff with Zaush getting banned off the site just reinforces so much context.
They really do like to practice that whole "Rules for thee, and not for Me" mentality, ehh, no wonder why everyone on the site has been worried about getting randomly banned for now.
And also, his species is just garbage, and their creation is hilariously strange and off the wall in the worst way.

With the new policy change + the shit I've been finding out about Dragoneer that I never knew, I'm grateful that I didn't use FurAffinity long enough to grow attached to the site. But if I had a nickel for a species I've heard about that was written as a genetically engineered creature made for a specific purpose through Furry Eugenics I'd have two nickels. Hope you don’t mind a year late reply, but hermaphrodite usually applies to a whole species that has mixed sex characteristics, like snails (just the first real-world example that comes to mind). If a species typically has traits of one sex or another, an individual with both is intersex. There’s also different terms for different intersex conditions.

My fursona is a coyote that is coloured in citrus fruit colours, even worse the lore of my sona, is that he was accidentally created in a lab, ⚠️ACCIDENTALLY ⚠️. So when I saw this video you can imagine how insanely scared I got. But he is just a silly lil guy who has lots of undealt with trauma, definitely NOT a citra!
