Great vid Oakie - some nice ported saws there. The thing I like the most about these 590/620 Echos is that the big box stores sell them so homeowners will run them into the ground with a dull chain and they can be had cheap to wrench on...
I've found a few cheap but the word is out and their value is going up IMO
@@Doc-Cole_Trickle-of-Chainsaws you are correct Sir and we can blame all our fav Y.T'ers for that! 😉😉 hahaha
It was a really fun day to get together with Mark. Like he has mentioned, swapping bars and trying to keep things equal is VERY time consuming. Then you must think about getting the saws hot again which is also a bit more difficult IMO with ECHO to make sure they are running optimally.
I am sure all the builders will be ready for a rematch down the road as I am sure we have all made progress since those builds
Great video Joe. You are having fun there with Mark.
Kenny, it was really great to get to do with him. He is a great guy and a wonderful firewood cutting host!
Those saws sound like they were all running well and not bogging down.
I think I was able to keep a consistent pressure and cutting RPM in the cut. Trying to keep things as equal as possible.
That’s awesome!! So hard to tell in a quick video film testing.
I can tell the wood is bigger on the Brisco. Both his and Dave’s are really strong saws.
Thank you for you help
The Dukes chain is slow, but once you put your own grind on it’s decent especially for the price.
Thanks there my favorite 60cc saw. Cant be beat for the price and performance.
Have 70 and 90cc Stihl and Husky’s also.
This testing was really very limited but gives everyone an idea of how things work out.
Surprised how close they all were! As Super Dave said, tons of variables. Glad y'all got together again and were able to make some great content👍🏻
AP, I actually was quite shocked at editing time at what I was seeing. While I was there, I really had not a clue how it was really going. At this moment, I do not know what to expect from the footage of when I ran the 562 and the MS460 in the same wood too. Now, those didn't get bar swaps or anything so it will not be a really great comparison but still, will be interesting to see what happens.
Mark you have some nice saw's for sure. I want to check out your pipe you built
I like it quite a bit. I really think that it could even produce gains on some of the ported saws too.
Marks stock saw with the pipe sounds good. I bet it's better in person
@zeromark202 love how easy they are to build for a pipe! And they absolutely work👍🏻
Absolutely, and they are lighter, give the cylinder more cooling area, and easier to clean around the saw without a big box can muffler in the way.
Super Dave Great Job. I'm ready for you to take my money
Shoot me an email and we can set something up! I have a few projects going so end of July will probably be a good time.
That must of been fun!
I wouldn't call it working, 2 much enjoyment, not that you can't enjoy work!😁
@@zeromark202 I'm not far from ya in Central AR, completely agree and understand, steamy here w/ 110°+ water coming out of the ground in places
You have some big names from the saw building world there. It looked like good fun.
Thank you so much friend. It was really a fun day with Mark. These saws are really pretty neat and in all reality the stock one did quite well for straight out of the box!
Nice catch on the ear muffs when firing up SuperDave’s saw 😂
Hahaha. Would be a bummer to loose those 3M muffs buddy. Know what would have been worse though? To get an injury worrying about ear muffs 😉
I like the side by side video, good work
Appreciated! Fun to find ways of editing this stuff. I used to put times up but have found that this visual representation is more useful. Thank you again
Nice comparison video.i have the cs590,along with 2 other smaller echo saws.i love all of them.this past month I've pushed the 590 a little.cut up a hackberry with 53 in base.a water oak with 54 in base.a pine with a 48 in base.using the 24 in bar.no problems. Was that log you cut a hackberry?
Awesome Brent! Thank you for commenting and sharing. These saws are sure awesome and I really like cutting Hackberry. Honestly, I like cutting any lighter in color wood that throws nicer chips. Even a super sharp chain doesn't throw the kind of chips that hackberry, silver maple, pine, sycamore etc produce. Thank you much!
Great video editing. Your skills are increasing and I’m sure you’re having just as much fun behind the computer. Keep them coming.
I sure thank you on that compliment and I am thankful for you being here!
Excellent editing, having a CZcams channel has opened my eyes to how much work, preparedness, and editing goes into it to create the best content for your subscribers.
Great job Oakie!
Mark, it is truly insanely time consuming but it is so fun! Comment like this from Steve really encourage me to keep pressing forward. Much like Dave is constantly striving to be a better builder, my platform is video combine with OPE and Homestead type stuff. i appreciate you and everyone else that makes this possible.
Absolutely you coming over and taking the time to film means so much to me. I want to help your channel grow in anyway I can.
I think Mike is ready for a visit as well! hahaha....We will try to make a time for it sir!
Great video on the saws
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the view and the comment means a ton to me.
Great test and all good saws! Good job Dave!
Thank you Boedy! You deserve lots of respect for the effort you put into testing saws. It is not an easy thing!
@@oakiewoodsman Nope, it is not. My guess is that every one of the ported saws were outrunning the chain. I will say this though... That saw that I built to Mr. Walkers specs... meh. The customer wanted it, so I didn't see the harm in it, but I won't be building another one like that. It was also a cheap build. He got the whole saw for like $450 shipped (and he purchased a new piston). So... the amount of additional work I'm gonna do for such a basic build is minimal. Nothing wrong with it, just... very much a low frills build. No timing advance, no real carburetor mods, a basic muffler mod. You get it... basic. To make that saw run proper with those timing numbers, it would need additional work. Timing advance, welded chamber, and advanced carb work. But it works well as a general work saw build. The Brisco built saw really tells the tale. I have ran that saw and it is a monster! He did all sorts of work to that thing and it produces over 7hp. The fact that it tested so poorly just directly points to the chain spinning so fast that it cannot discharge the chips fast enough and the cutter isn't able to properly engage with the wood. If you are gonna run the test again, I'll send you a better saw to test. That one is without question, the weakest 590 I have ever built because the timing numbers.
interesting Boedy! Thanks for the reply. I can see how that could be a possibility. The Dukes chain is not the fastest out of the box for sure. Hmmmmmm.... you have me thinking now.
@@novicelumberjack THAT saw was outrunning the chain? Hahaha 😆 What a load of rubbish ! Nah …. somebody built a turd 😂. Lord Mr. Ford … If you’re going to build saws for $$$ then at the LEAST make sure they cut faster than stock!
Good stuff 👍
Hello from Oklahoma! I appreciate you stopping by. You run saws much yourself?
Awesome video buddy I love it
Thank you sir. We tried to make it good clean fair fun. Hard to do with natural materials and limited time and resources. See ya around!
@oakiewoodsman your welcome buddy an yeah just something about them 620s I love an see you around Stay safe out there
After running a few of my Bellhopper ported saws it is hard to run stock saws. That is why i was wanting to buy your 562 and was going to send it to Bellhopper. Ported saw are great.
That would be super cool to have some of them! You are correct, once modified it is hard to go back but I gotta say, this stock NIB 620 did REALLY well!
Well this shows and proves a hand sharpened chain beats an out-of-box Dukes by far!
The 28” 84dl Oregon hand-filed won 1st then 2nd place vs 24” 81dl on all other saws with new dukes chain.
Only chain decidedly fast out of the box I have experienced is 33RS Stihl and C83 husqvarna, even Oregon EXL imo can be made faster with a hand file vs factory grind. Dukes is fine for someone on a tight budget, but for performance buy something else.
I just wasn't quite sure if my particular hand filing would do it. I found it interesting as the bar was a bit longer, the chain is quite worn down and as you know, many people swear that you can only get the tooth so small and then it isn't worth it. Not me, I go until the teeth are all but gone. I have never purchased 33 RS chain because of cost and that fact that I do not care too much about out of the box sharpening because it seems when I have a new chain is the time I find rock or metal i something and suddenly that out of the box grind no longer matter as well. I love a nice new C83 in nice clean wood however! I couldn't agree more on the Duke pricing. VERY good value!
Yeah man, I’m with you on people say you can’t get the chain tooth to small. Cant be farther from the truth lol, race chain is ground down like crazy to lighten the chain and create less friction through the wood. Actually people with good experience say the last little bits left sharpening the chain to get everything out of it has been the best it ever has been. A new chain should be at the slowest speed due to drag and weight. Something I had to think about for a bit.
Me either till about a couple weeks ago looking into how to make a race chain and reading other comments.
Echo makes a great saw
@@oakiewoodsman yes I do. Maybe a couple. Those top handles are nice
There is another great builder not too far from us. Corey Corp and I may be getting together to build up this 2511 a bit. He is another fantastic builder with an exquisite attention to detail.
I have stihls huskys and been running them for yrs , these little 620s are top notch in my book
Great saw for sure and the BEST value out there if you need a larger saw that is outside of the farm and ranch class for less money! Get em while they are available I say! Seemingly the simplistic designs are quickly going away everywhere.
👍👍 great comparison! Good work all builders! Did you happen to get any tests dogging in?
We didn’t want to test that since they all have different dogs. The WCS ones make it easy to bog them vs a single.
@@crazyfeller5704 Awesome show down, I bet this will be a good little fire starter 4 a couple people leading into the
#🐺Wack-Off!
CF, I think this was very fun. I was also concerned about running out of wood. I also tested the 562 and the 460 and honestly have not even looked at the footage yet.
Will that stock 620 out of the box pull a 28” bar with no problem don’t want to be disappointed when I buy one great video
@@zeromark202 thanks for the reply I will be cutting hardwood might just save me some more money to get what I want
What is it you want? I’m not brand loyal. The 620 can pull a 28” fine but it’s not super fast with bar buried compared to like a 70-90cc saw stock for stock.
@@zeromark202 thinking about the Stihl 500i not brand loyal either I would like to have a saw I could run a 25” to a 36” bar I cut big oaks for firewood just gonna run it stock don’t have a clue what it would cost to get one ported
Very nice!! Yeah these echo 590/620’s can’t compete with that saw. The 500i is fast! Think they are #1 in hp per lb ratio at .519
There even faster than a ms462 & 572xp but those are 70cc vs 80cc
Awesome video! There are always a ton of variables when testing or racing saws and i appreciate yall doing everything you can to keep it consistent!
It’s harder than I thought to test.
You and Brisco both make excellent saws!
👍🏻SD&ZM
@@zeromark202yup, I am sure Brisco has faster ones and he has built way more saws than me. He is a great builder for sure.
@@Super-Dave-Outdoorsyes I love his build very spicy, saves me so much time cutting firewood! Ported vs stock is a game changer. These are my 1st ported saws that I have owned. Have had a ms461, 372, and 572xp the ported Echo 620’s are so much fun to run and you know they are going to last a very long time.
