  • becoming stoic is not about feeling "nothing". it's about feeling everything and taking control.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a quick history lesson on Stoicism:
created around 300-320 BC by a merchant named Zeno who was introduced to philosophy when he arrived in Athens. he developed his adaptation to cope with loss. (he was in a shipwreck on his way to Athens where he lost everything)
originally, his followers were called Zenonians who later became known as stoics/stoicism
the people who made stoicism “famous” so to speak, were:
Marcus Aurelius, - emperor of the Roman Empire for nearly 2 decades
Seneca - known for letters from a stoic (started when he was exiled from Rome and continued throughout his whole life)
Epictetus (a man who obtained his freedom from slavery and went on to found a stoic philosophy school to teach until his death)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    4 virtues of Stoicism
courage - to continue even when life becomes challenging
temperance (moderation) - knowing your limits. not too much of a good thing or a bad thing in all aspects of life
justice - doing what’s right and treating others with respect because we are all human
wisdom - gained through learning, listening, and experiences. we have 2 eyes and 1 mouth for a reason. it’s acquiring the right information and using it for good
