Personally, I open everything so that I’m not tempted to buy pieces that I think MIGHT be valuable in the future. My motto is to buy only what I like and then open it. I mean you're not wrong cuz the Bugatti casting from 2020 went up to like $40 now so I mean that one technically went up 400%. I mean in my opinion if you know it's only collectible don't open it but if it's the mainline you really like just open it. I will say I did open a lot of my collectible cars do overtime but doesn't really matter anymore cuz I know I ain't going to sell them.

    This is a question that's been plaguing collectors for a long time! I've seen a recent video from Mike Zarnok, the Hot Wheels historian, he says that it's up to you to decide if you want to open or leave your Hot Wheels in their packs, some of the premium cars, like the Fast & Furious, Super Treasure Hunts and Team Transports have real rubber wheels and amazing paint jobs, these would be some that I would leave in their box, as for the mainline cars, they are not worth that much in or out of package because they make sooo many of the same cars. I now have over 700 Hot Wheels in my collection, 98% of them I left in their package, but I did get a few doubles of the ones that I like the most, like the COPO Chevy Camaro and a few more, but space can become a factor in how many Hot Wheels you collect, I would hate having doubles of EVERY car in my collection because of my limited space, so in all, it's up to every collector to decide what they want! Really enjoying your videos!

    That's why I buy three if I like a design. One gets freed and the other two are backups. But even though the two in the package remain new, I find that the one I love most is the one that I take out and carry in my handbag or backpack. The paint chips are love marks. It reminds me that that one and I have shared times both good, bad exciting, boring. Life.

    Truly, I think there is value in play. Those common, mass-produced cars should be played with. The only collector cars that will maintain value are those limited edition cars. They sell out quickly. I think super treasure hunts are way over-valued. I think collectors push the price up quickly when they come out. Then they will decrease in value and level out to a point where played with cars will be worth just a little less than those in cards. The other collectible part that I find value in are the cards themselves. Some of the cards have fantastic artwork. Especially the cards that come from comic book characters. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Happy hunting.

  • @joakimhjelm-svennesen8984

    You may want to remove the rubber bands from the HW Rauh-Welt RWB Porsche (on the doors and bonnet/hood/rear end) because the rubber bands will in time destroy the paint. The rubber bands have some sort of corrosive effect and damage the paint over longer time. So if I was you I would open the box, remove the rubber band then place the car in the box again, and use it as a display case.
    Do have a lot of Hot Wheels in Germany? Because we don’t have many here in Denmark. I basically have to order all my HW cars online via eBay - premium as well as basic lines.
    I mainly collect only Premium lines from HW, because I don’t have a lot of room in my apartment. And I display them in a glass door cabinet hanging on the wall in my living room. And I also store unopened cars in the original packaging - especially the one I have two of.

  • @pghizzi
    @pghizzi Před 4 lety +1

    Again a very nice and tacticle video :)
    The biggest differences about the mainline Jaguar and premium one will be that usually on the premium the head and tailights will be all set, regardless of any other tampo it has. Mainlines usally have head/tailights set only when there are no other side/top tampos. Other than that, premium has "real riders" (rubber) wheels and its bottom is also made from metal (mainline are usually have metal bodies / plastic on bottom, some track cars are plastic on the body & metal bottom).
    Also, as the premium is much more a miniature than a toy, my bet is that the mainline one will fare much better n the orange track. But it's always fun to test it out :) Cheers!

    That question plagues me with both my car and doll collection. For dolls I have the rule that if it's a big bulky plastic blister like most Barbie dolls nowhadays I will open and discard the blister (plastic trash). If it's a "scenic" pack with nice vintage art and the doll is posed in a way i will only remove the rubberbands since those do degrade after a few years and could damage hair etc. But with my Hotwheels it's just so difficult haha. It's small and compact and the card art is really nice to look at. Maybe if I remove the blister bit and only leave the card intact to put in a folder to look at and identify my cars, that could be the ultimate storage solution so far.

If you’re a real collector and you’re actually going to keep it, the potential future value shouldn’t matter. And it certainly shouldn’t keep you from opening. Pointless not to open.
