This video gave me the courage to keep going , it took me 6 hours to just get the timing chain and tensioner on !!! I saw pimp daddy could do it so I kept going . Thank you 8 years ago doing this video pimp daddy 👍
hey, thank you very much for your help, definitely the best video, you made a serious contribution to the community with this video and for that, i'm very grateful.
I know I need to change the timing tensioner in both my dakotas (probably actually just going to get rid of one cause the engine is clapped out amungst other things) and this helps. I didn't realize that the tensioner was also the cam retainer plate. Good to know.
If you have a competent family member or boyfriend it's not a difficult job. Would typically charge about $150 plus materials. If you can do it yourself great. Oil pan gasket $30, Timing chain gasket set $15, Timing chain set $50 plus 2 gallons of 50/50 coolant ($18), $4 oil filter $16 high mileage engine oil.
technecally yes but I couldn't get the chain on with the pin in or the black thing on for that matter. Just make sure that your timing marks line up with a strait edge after you put the tensioner on. So long as you can do that you will be fine.
+1kmiles lol, I hope not. Have to look at video when I get home. There was allot of grime on the engine. After the parts were cleaner it may have looked that way.
+1kmiles If I remember right the timing chain kit came with new sprockets, a chain and the tensioner. Why the writing on the sprocket was different. Everything lined up. The truck has been ruining for almost three years now so if there was a problem I would have heard about it.

Make sure to always buy both the chain and gears..:people think the chain stretches it’s really the chain and gears wear down creating space

Less than $150 including oil/coolant, timing chain set and gaskets.

How did you get the piece of the tensioner off, im doing this job right now and that piece is not removable
You mean the black rubber/plastic part of the tensioner? I just pulled and wiggled it off.
Pimp Baby its because i bought my kit from ebay. I just got an oem one and it just slide right off. Thanks for the reply
Pimp Baby i had another question though, are you supposed to leave that pin in when your done??
technecally yes but I couldn't get the chain on with the pin in or the black thing on for that matter.

Sorry, meant you were supposed to leave the pin in until you have the timing sprockets on... Make sure pin is out after install....
Was the crankshaft sprocket gear slide on backwards?
+1kmiles Does it matter? Shaft lip is wider on outside in video.

too fast & too much gloved hand, especially the left hand, & how abot the wire spring did you put it back in?
Actually do the work. Do I actually have to explain every detail? Then you'd bitch it was to slow....
I think I'll make my own video....this one may be how NOT to change a timing chain.
Still waiting ........you uploading it soon?
