For me personaly, every now and then I re-open them and listed to the cd while I shuffle through the goodies and see the album (because I keep them in their plastic wrap) and it's like feeling the same excitement then when I first recieved them... so yeah, it makes me feel happiness specially on those sad lonely days♡ I never regret buying them
Exactly! This is the same way I feel... Also, in my country, K-pop albums are rarely available. So having one of these is equal to having a treasure chest lol. I feel lucky!
I love the photo cards but i still dont buy the album for photo cards as here jn philipines its really expensive so i only buy the ones that i love the Arties, group, song
As you said “if your genuinely happy with your album don’t let my words stop you from buying them and supporting your idols” I get the same happiness when I open the album and I open it every day cuz why not? It’s super exited I don’t have a skz lightstick so I end up vibing with my album 😂
As someone who buys kpop albums I love the little kiddish excitement I get when opening up a new album. Also I have a cd player so I do put the cd in that at night and listen to music while I go to sleep so I get a good use out of my albums and plus I also reopen my albums every once in a while to feel the same excitement
I don't know what sickness kpop has given me but I do this exact cycle constantly; trapped in some pretty paper capitalistic nightmare and say I'm getting out then the next thing I know I'm holding Girl's Generation space fiesta box and out $55.
The cost of the albums and shipping went up by so much a lot of the time a single mini album now costs over $100 when they used to be $30-60. Even as someone who frequently replays my kpop CDs, it just isn't worth it anymore
I agree with you! I just bought an old album after almost 2 years being released, because the price was affordable for me. And I came up with a term to buy the album. I must love all the songs in the album, if not better not buy because I am tight on budget and it doesn't waste my money huhu. However, I still support the artist on an online platform.
This is why i buy the jewel case / digipack / compact versions ! Or i buy off of ebay and either buy from people trying to get rid of their collections or stuff w/o all the inclusions (sometimes i just want the pretty cd and the photobook lol)
Me too! I was collecting photocards but when covid hits, they had to find a way to make money and they end up doing a lot of fansign photocard and pre order photocards.. for a member to complete each comeback went from 10 photocard to like 70 photocards... When I calculate it, exemple 10usd each (some are more) its 700usd each comeback for one bias.. 😅😅 I can’t justify the expense. So now I’m streaming and listen to them and I still love Kpop a lot, it’s just I’m trying to save for a house 😅
i first listen to the album digital, if i like it, i’ll look into a buying a physical copy. i currently have aespa, red velvet (my favorite), newjeans, super m lucas version, nct, EXO SC, and i hoping to get a shinee album.
I love my old Gen 2 albums from SM Ent. So many great photobooks and fun concepts! And they still deliver: each SHINee and SJ release for me is a masterpiece. But for other groups? I am weak for Monsta X releases with different versions and extras. I love going back to them and revisiting the releases. I had bought several extra albums, usually second-hand for scrapbooking purposes as well. And I'm always excited with getting packages from Korea.
yeah I was feeling the same exact way because I used to collect photocards but now I just started collecting albums which is even worse for my wallet 😭
I am a dragon when it comes to albums lol. I like to hoard them since they tend to look nice on a shelf (this is a going on 15 year struggle from when I was a design student in college and loved how cool they looked)
Honestly, I’ve never bought an album, I just got one today (my first album ever) I think that will be the only one because I just want to experience the feeling for the first and last time❤
Me personally, I open up my albums again once in awhile and fan girl over the photo cards, I usually put the posters up in my room or at least try to display my albums somehow, but I don’t go crazy buying them. I usually get 1, once in awhile and I have to genuinely Stan the group and enjoy their music. I’ve seen some people just buy random kpop groups albums just for the hell of it which I find weird
I look through my photocards and photobooks quite a lot but I like when they have stuff I can also use like some doing bookmarks as I'm a huge reader it's nice having that. But I don't use stickers or posters much so I get it
Also I always like showing support to artists it's a good way of showing the fanbase they have and if you buy direct as well shows where they are selling well which means tours aha
This is how I feel too, but if you think about it any collection is like this for example when Squishmallows were big people usually just buy it cause it’s new, and to display it. Collections are just like that 😅
I feel sometimes that you just feel the excitement at firt when you opened and see the content and when you finish all 😢 you just want more and feel the same emotion again 😢
Me personally when i buy one i get really excited and some days i dont touch them ad some days i look at the pages over and over again and its really fun for me to opne them again
I personally LOVE buying k pop albums because most of the ones that I get have really beautiful cover art and it’s fun to go through them every once in a while. Also I keep mine really nice so if I didn’t want them anymore I could easily sell them
For me, once week or so I look through all my albums ( as I have a small amount ) and I most of the time I only get the album if I enjoy the music, I’m hoping to get a cd player soon so I can play then, I always enjoy the posters! But that’s for me personally everyone is different
I think you feel like it’s a waste of money cause you’ve experienced the hype of K-pop albums and eventually get bored of it. But I’d treasure my albums with my life 😂
Me and my sister are both kpop collectors although recently she’s stopped collecting because of this reason which I completely respect and understand. . . As for me they honestly make me very happy, I’ll usually spend some days flipping through them and my photocard binder listening to the cds. . . I’ve also always been a collector but nothing has made me happier than collecting kpop albums. I used to collect funko pops and dolls but they never brought me any joy lol
tbh i dont want them anymore bc new laptops dont play cds anymore, thats why i will rather print pictures of my own collected photos of my biases if you love collecting, thats cool
I have a collection account so its not like i buy them abd never touch them again, i usually open them regularly to take pictures and stuff like that, and i love collecting them, so i don't think it's a waste of money personally. Also im supporting my favs so 🤷🏻♀️
I mean I first bought them for the cds but I started buying them because their like collectibles and I enjoy looking through the pictures and the photo cards in my spare time too!
for me its not a waste bc when i buy it i can listen to the cd on my speakers and i hang the posters on my wall so it makes some decorations. also i collect the photocards soooo no waste for me
I actually really enjoy albums I have a cd player and listen to the cds often when cleaning or studying. And I open mine every once in awhile and of course pulling your bais is extremely fun ❤. If albums stop I'll be prett sad but that's just my opinion
I 100% agree. I honestly don't even want to think of how much money is just sitting in my bookcase right now. Now, I just buy the albums of the top three groups I like and their solo stuff... and luckily that isn't much since the groups are older, in the middle of enlistment, etc so the albums are spread out.
Hmmm, for people (like me) who have a specified amount of albums or for those who don't really get to buy albums, I guess they get excited everytime they open their old albums
I feel this way too. The difference is after a while of getting bored with my day I go back to looking through all of them, it's cool. I only buy them when I think they look super cool to display (and it's a group I reeaally like) other than that I don't see the appeal of having +500 albums
I actually would like having the whole discography of some of my faves but I don't want my home to look like a kpop store, if the design is appealing and i like the music then i get it
I personally only buy albums if I really like the songs on the albums, or I really like the group and I like the look of the CD. I like to collect CDs and use them as wall art, so if there’s an album that I enjoy but don’t particularly obsess over, I will still buy the album if the CD is pretty (like Whee In’s IN the mood). Kpop groups aren’t really designing many creative CDs anymore tho, which is disappointing, but it does help me save some money when I go to a kpop store.
I get it they get quite expensive especially since they’re so many versions even store exclusive ones it’s frustrating which is why i might get a kaddy soon since its gonna be way cheaper
The only reason I buy them is for collection purposes and maybe later they’ll be super expensive and I can sell it but other than that I mainly buy photo cards
For me, Buying albums is the only way i can support my fav groups other than listening/streaming the songs. I live in the USA so i can not go to concerts and where i live concert never come to my city. And buying albums is one tiny thing i like to invest in because they make me very happy and are cheaper than therapy.
I buy albums I really like, and honestly even ones I initially was disappointed in content wise I develop soft feelings for over time. Even one of my fave photos in one of my albums isn’t even of my bias. I like looking back on them. But I’ve always been discerning in my choices, so I never feel this way.
Personally, I will watch videos of what’s inside first (for example FreeFall album) too see if it’s worth it or not, if there’s like pretty much included inside I’ll buy it but if there’s like only 1 photocard and like a few stuff I won’t buy it
I love buying albums because it makes me feel happy and satisfied ig...and plus i buy it because i genuinely want it and i only collect the artists i love and want to support ❤ plus i actually use the cd and like going through the goodies and photo books, the photo books are my favorite 😍 so i don't think its a waste of money 😁😁
Gotta accept that album is now have similar purpose with painting, "you buy it but you don't touch it, you can, but you can just admire it". We already do this with vinyls, where people who don't own turntable, keep buying vinyls to display them. KPop albums are prettier than most American albums (with just acrylic case and that's it). So some people like to collect them as collectible items. Ask a Marvel action figure collector if they play with their action figures.
I understand the sentiment. I am an album collector myself and I buy albums only if I like most of the songs in it, the aesthetic feel of the whole album and especially the photobook. I don't really care much about the inclusions. I display them too and sometimes if I feel like it. I randomly select on my stash to play it every once in a while. I don't usually preorder that often. I usually buy it in a bargain seller since the prices of the albums for preorder are really expensive. Plus. I don't really wanted to wait for months to get my album, thus buying it in bargain price and Onhand is the only way I get to buy albums nowadays and it helps if only I wanted to collect albums for a certain artists I really liked
Ngl I agree. I'm going to still buy albums but it's so expensive. Back then when I liked bts I thought it was normal to spend 100$ on a album w only one song. If u r a bts fan DO NOT get albums from jb-hi-fi,the other albums from different artists r like 30$.ANYWAYS IF UR IN MELBOURNE GO TO HAPPY TOWN.
Lol I always take an album off my shelf and put everything it came with back in there and act like I just got it, I open them again every other, because they’re just so pretty.
if it makes u happy then buy it. people should stop worrying so much about money cause you’re gonna die one day so u may as well spend it on something u like
I personally buy albums for the group I only ULT and also I buy them second hand which I can either decide to put the inclusions or not which is honestly way way way more cheaper than buying it online and have to ship it with an insane shipping cost. Honestly since companies are now making more versions of albums, I just stick to one that I like the most and get that instead of collecting all of it cuz 1. Its a waste of money and space 2. U don't need two CDs that has the same tracklist. If I want the PCs or Inclusions, I can just buy them second hand on depop or somewhere else which is I personally think is way more convenient than paying so much more to gamble your bias' pc
I only bought albums during the Golden Era, it was fun to collect all the different albums (also bc during that time kpop was not as accessible for international fans, it had a bigger impact when buying albums)
I only buy it when I absolutely love the pictures (I've had plenty with bad pictures so it is a waste) and love the songs. I also consider the ones with unique packaging. Of course there are some I bought in the heat of moment and regretted a lot and considering to let it go
I started collecting in 2012. Back then multiple versions were rare. So to get a groups discography you had to buy a few albums. Now you have to buy so many to collect all of them. And as someone who wants everything of a group if I start collecting I just can't justify the price anymore.
Thats why I prefer to wait until the album has been released and see if I like the album songs or not. Like it doesnt make sense to me to buy something i dont know if im going to like it or not, even if its my favourite groups, there is always that album that doesnt hit for me. I have like 35 albums more or less but i just bought them because I stan the group and because I loved the album and it made me happy to have albums I love the music, so much physically and normaly I will play the CDs on the CD player when I'm cleaning my room or just spend the evening playing idk nintendo games or something. I dont but them just to complete a collection, ofc I have more albums from groups i like more than others but if I buy it, just make sure I enjoy the songs from there. And thats why i normally wait for unboxings and see which photobook i like the most, to get specifically that version of the album and always buy a copy from the album , not the 4 versions, 10 digipakcs, etc, thats a waste of money personally like why would i want to have so mamy versions of the same album?. And some of the albums i got are from second hand albums that came with inclusions and the ones i got are basically if they were new
Like a month ago (or two) I got my first K-pop album (NWJNS bunny bag) and was so excited abt it !! I loved everything abt and obsessed over it for like a day or two…then couple days after I got the Ready To Be album bc it was the last one in stock and I was like why not🤷🏾♀️ obsessed with that to for a few days while slowly realizing I have no where to put the albums…now I keep them under my bed in hopes I don’t damage them somehow🙃
i got my first one not to long ago (skz rockstar) and i use the photo book as a drawing reference bc i really like drawing portraits (and skz always slays in every photo fr)
It depends on the amount you get in it, and how good the actual songs are on the album. Like I’m looking at Moonbyuls most recent album and I want the limited version. It’s £32 but I see it as a good purchase bc it comes with a literal tote bag, good amount of inclusions and I’m literally IN LOVE with every song. There’s 12 songs. So I see it as a good purchase
I have been a Kpop fan for about 5 years now tbh Ig more of a casual listener and I never bought an album until New Jeans cus it felt so worth it and I loved the aesthetics . I still am mostly here for the music only and don`t really care for the artists but I would say I am an avid fan of New Jeans an will continue to only buy their albums cause it feels worth it to me :D
I recently bought a stray kids 5 star album when it came out I was so excited and I started to save up money to buy! Weeks passed and I haven’t seen in stores then I found it in this one Walmart I didn’t get excited when I found it I was like oh it’s here and I bought it it was like $50 and I was just like🙂 idkkk like I was happy I had it but it was really a waste of money for me because I will literally only touch it once and leave it on my shelf..
I buy the albums for the photos… I’m a designer so the layout and everything it’s worth it as inspo… in my mind it’s a fancy magazine that so happens to come with a cd that I play while cleaning 🤣
To each his own. For me, it's for Hanteo charting that I'm after. I had to save up or plan ahead when ordering/buying, weigh more what's worth keeping.
As a photocard collector, I buy multiple versions of each album, keep 1 copy of the photobook and all of the photocards, then sell the extra photobooks.
I personally use almost all the contents when I buy an album. I buy it cheap or at a normal price on Mercari, eBay, Amazon, and target I would never buy them for those outrageous prices you showed. I got proof by BTS the standard version for 20 bucks sealed on Mercari. I display the cds on the wall and decorate the photo cards into toploaders. Then the albums are put on the shelf to display them like with a book collection looking at them every once in a while 😊
For me if ppl want the photocards I rather them buy the Weverse ver or like those mini albums where u only get a mystery pc, but for me I really wanted the dark blood album, for me I buy a album if I really really want it bc I also scrapbook with the photo book
I personally buy kpop albums for my own happiness. I normally choose an amount of photocards to collect for each era of each group. Bc of this, I don't see kpop albums as a waste of money. I have tons of money that I've been saving up for years, and I'll probably never spend them until I'm much older.
I never feel to buy albums instead of them I feel to buy merches , ornamental and usefull like tht can be used for study stuff or smtg motivational , or toys type
You just need to make it a thing, flipping through your stuff as a relaxation activity. I do it, and it does not take a lot of time or brain power (sometimes you are just tired af, after a long and stressful day) ,it's very enjoyable. I have a comfy chair next to my albums and artbooks, so it's really easy for me to do that. And every time I am as excited to see the albums, as I was the first time. Because human bain forgets, so you can reexperience everything. Like re-reading a book, just way faster.

Yeah. It used to be like that. But nowadays people are after the inclusions like the photocards.

If you like it and it makes you happy and it’s your money then go for it, just like when you buy anything else besides necessities!
I always looked at my album over and over again so sometimes i kinda feel happy that i actually have one,i only like buy one for few months
I buy them for the sticker bc idk were else to buy the stickers separately 💀
I can't even afford 1🥲
🥺
I actually feel the same way
Lol I always take an album off my shelf and put everything it came with back in there and act like I just got it, I open them again every other, because they’re just so pretty.
Totally agree with you.. Also with the raise in prices and the "fancy" songs these days, i don't think its worth it.
if it makes u happy then buy it. people should stop worrying so much about money cause you’re gonna die one day so u may as well spend it on something u like
I have a CD player so I can play music from th CDs from the albums
I play my albums cds and I look at the concept photo book like im reading a book lmao
my dad just got me a new cd player so i see it as a sign to keep collecting the albums i actually want for the music
I collect rock/alt/metal cds and I play, look at them so much
If I buy kpop albums I look at the photobook for like everyday 😂
This is why I got a cd player so my albums have more of a purpose. I notice I look through them more when I listen to the album cd
Of course there are some I bought in the heat of moment and regretted a lot and considering to let it go
I love so many artists, but I am only collecting 1 group. Money and space is a huge issue.
I do this but I use the photocards to play uno so they still are some use to me
It depends on the amount you get in it, and how good the actual songs are on the album.
To make it fun u gotta play with the photo card
I have been a Kpop fan for about 5 years now tbh Ig more of a casual listener and I never bought an album until New Jeans cus it felt so worth it and I loved the aesthetics . I still am mostly here for the music only and don`t really care for the artists but I would say I am an avid fan of New Jeans an will continue to only buy their albums cause it feels worth it to me :D
You know what? I hugged all of my k-pop album every night lol
I recently bought a stray kids 5 star album when it came out I was so excited and I started to save up money to buy! Weeks passed and I haven’t seen in stores then I found it in this one Walmart I didn’t get excited when I found it I was like oh it’s here and I bought it it was like $50 and I was just like🙂 idkkk like I was happy I had it but it was really a waste of money for me because I will literally only touch it once and leave it on my shelf..
resellers are my faves
Then the albums are put on the shelf to display them like with a book collection looking at them every once in a while 😊
It's a collection 😭😭😭
Is it just me or i bought a Newjeans album and I look at it everyday and touch it everyday I'm obsessed with it ❤
For me if ppl want the photocards I rather them buy the Weverse ver or like those mini albums where u only get a mystery pc, but for me I really wanted the dark blood album, for me I buy a album if I really really want it bc I also scrapbook with the photo book
I personally buy kpop albums for my own happiness. I normally choose an amount of photocards to collect for each era of each group. Bc of this, I don't see kpop albums as a waste of money. I have tons of money that I've been saving up for years, and I'll probably never spend them until I'm much older.
That's why I love the jewel cases and the Digipack versions, I'm only use the cd.
not sure if its only me but if i have free time i just take my albums and admire them or like play the cds so idk what u guys r on
frrr, i have a friend that buys all versions of txt albums but told me she still has them in their bubble wrap and never played the cds like what
I never feel to buy albums instead of them I feel to buy merches , ornamental and usefull like tht can be used for study stuff or smtg motivational , or toys type
Honestly, I only buy albums if I like all the songs on them, because the CDs are the main reasons I buy albums
Omg same i used to think that i needed the albums but now i just buy the ones that i really like 😊
