I watched all of Gordon’s films several times, what was documented in North of the Sun is of significant historic value. Even when it was filmed you could see outside influences that were relatively new to the people. But the old way of life was still present, and at the end as Gordon reflects on what could come to these people who have self subsisted for thousands of years, is deeply saddening. It seems to have turned out the way he hoped it wouldn’t. We are very fortunate that time period was recorded and documented as that way of life is gone.
Brings back a lot of memories, I use to rent your dads videos at our local sporting goods store. The place closed up here a few years ago and sold everything. I kick myself for not picking up all those old videos.

One of the most memorable parts of your father’s movies that I can remember. I probably rewatched that vhs 20 times. Not as many times as the Phantom Ram though!

I saw this film in the school gymnasium 3x as a kid, and as soon as I saw the video for sale at ELK Inc decades later I bought it and I’ve watched it hundreds of times. I can’t get enough of it, it’s very entertaining. I’ve never figured out exactly where the ‘Plains of Abraham’ is, I’m thinking it must be a local name. I’ve watched that sheep hunt scene so many times and I see where one of the rams was hit in the gut, but I’m glad that the ram was recovered.

When dallying, a steer's finger got between the rope and saddle horn. The family cattle ranch also grows apples.
@@mikeeastman6809 makes him even cooler now... like a hockey player missing teeth. I've seen busted knuckles/fingers but not an amputation. Again thanks for the history.
