    reminds me of the gilles peterson interview with moodyman in 2007 . that changed my outlook on music completely . i understand why he wears a mask . its not about him the person or the dj etc . its about the music . the tallent is sat on the turntabels in front of them thats why they wear a mask or dress up etc etc . listen to the gilles interview !

    This guy is awesome, reminds me a lot of myself. Most of the dj's that know about Roots reggae (Not Dance-hall) tend to know whats up with vinyl collecting, djing' & diggin for crates and the whole sub-culture that came with it before it became mainstream in buying online and not actually going to shops, dj's house's and flea markets to go Dig! The journey in diggin is not always finding it but the process of diggin, and when you find that gem or those gems, it makes the whole experience worth while!

    why would u show your tattoos if you didnt want people to know it was you though? ... he wanted it "all about the music" but hes just ended up being the image of a "guy with a mask, tattoos and a chain" i dont understand? imagery is impossible to escape in music, honesty is the most we can hope for and that doesnt entail the wearing of a mask.. fair enough if its just that he doesnt want to be famously attached to his music but im sure any of his friends know who he is right now. Its really not as if this makes the listening to his DJ sets any the purer because some of his facial features arent a part of the overall imagery... infact i would argue that this guys image has a more profound impact than some1 who wasnt wearing a mask who also had a name

    he can do whatever what he wants i suppose, dont really care, but in my opinion this guy's dreaming if he thinks he's gonna be recognisably famous. He's niche. If u went up to a 100 random people on the street and asked them who Jaguar skills was, they wouldn't have a fucking clue. 26,000 worldwide views for this video tells u that. In fact I just put Jaguar Skills into youtube and his biggest video (a trevor nelson affiliation!) is like 200,000, over 4 yrs!!!!!! Thats peanuts. I personally know about 4 'famous' music people in my town alone, guys that have won grammy's, video's on MTV for the last 20 yrs, played Madison Square Garden!! - way more famous than this guy, and they never get bothered or recognised at all, hardly ever, not even in their home town - it's not an issue for them. If u ask me, he looks kind of silly.

    • @Depixz
      @Depixz Před 8 lety

      +steveehardcore You've clearly never seen him live, or actually heard the skill he has on the turntables. Seen him live a few times, I can say he's hands down unique and they're the best shows I've been to.
      The fact you're basing his fame off of CZcams just shows you have no clue who Jag Skills really is. His work is pure art and he is all about the music.
      What does it really matter if he has one listener, 1,000 listeners or even a 1 million. He keeps it 100% to himself and stays true to what he wants to do.
      I'd like you to try and ask 100 people, at least one or two would. He used to have a slot with Trevor Nelson on 1xtra all the time. He's done countless radio shows for Capital One, Radio 1 and others.
      If you don't know who he is, why watch this video? Why bother to comment. It shows you were interested enough about him. Go listen to his soundcloud, or better yet, experience him live and then if you have the same feelings fair enough.
      Do you even mix bro?

    • @steveehardcore
      @steveehardcore Před 8 lety +1

      +Luke Shiels I think u have clearly missed the point I was trying to make. I watch these videos because it is the crate diggers show and i am a crate digger. I was well aware of who Jaguar skills was and what he did before i saw this video. I heard his mix slots on Trever Nelson a long, long time ago. It does matter how many views he has, that is precisely the point!!!! If he had 100 million views, was headlining festivals, appearing on TV etc, then I might give him some credit for wanting to stay anonymous, but he doesnt. I dont know if u realised, but being on radio is not the same as TV, u dont see the person's face!!! Even as an avid turntablist enthusiast and DJ - I still didnt really know much about him nor care what he looked like. If I dont know, then average Joe on the street certainly doesnt care. I dont see why it matters if I "mix bro" , but if u must know I have been been a turntablist since about 1996 and I have about 10,000 records. I have never seen Jaguar skills live, and have had plenty of opportunities to go see him live, but could never be that bothered because I didnt think that much of his mixes I heard on podcasts or radio etc. In the grand scheme of things, Jaguar is OK, he has some talent, but there are plenty of other DJs I would go see first, thats my opinion. He actually seems like a nice guy, and is obviously very passionate about music, but it doesnt change my opinion that I think he looks a bit of a plonker for wearing that mask. These crate digger videos are even a niche within a niche. These videos are for a handful of nerds. Turntablism has always been niche, and its a dying art, its a shame, but the majority of the people on this planet just dont give a damn. They are much more interested in footballers, actors, popstars etc. If we assumed that each view of this video equated to an actual person, (which is probably not true) then the percentage of the population that has watched this would be about 0.00043%. I am sorry u felt butt hurt by my comment, he obviously means a lot to u, but dont sweat it, life goes on.
