    I love watching these videos so much. It's such a good balance of voice and car noises. Very few people are able to capture the true quietness of a vehicle. I cannot think of another Maybach video that depicts the amount of sound isolation the way this one does.

      Me too. I always loved Maybach. If Daimler hadn't so severely mismanaged the brand it would still be stand alone. I think their biggest mistake was trying to charge more than Rolls-Royce. Just the base 57 started around $375k. 😂

    • @visionist7

      @@cdhilton7124 It's because the car was completely handbuilt. There was almost no production line; each car was individually assembled by technicians and craftsmen. Panel by panel, bolt by bolt. The old factory videos are very impressive and also heartbreaking because you know all those extremely talented artists were probably out of a job when production ceased in 2012.
      The car's prototype was unveiled in 1997 and everything in the final car except the DVD player could have been in 1997 too. Now that would most definitely have made the Rolls look a fool's choice back then...

    The nice thing about Maybachs of the early 2000s was that, if you wanted to see where Mercedes was gonna take the S-Class to in the future, all you had to do was look at what Maybach was doing. This car came out when the W220 was still the king of the Mercedes lineup, yet this looks more like a W221 than anything else.

With this car I could drive him around quite quickly without him grumbling on the revs, engine sound and other noises from the road. The only question remains unanswered - where the hell was he ever been driven around with a Maybach ;)

    Interesting fact on the brake setup. I didn't know each front wheel had two calipers! Question though: Does that mean that the unused (emergency) caliper just sits there until the first computer fails? Just wondering how well a 16 year old caliper is going to actuate for the first time out of the blue.

    • @rv9990
      @rv9990 Před 2 lety

      I think the first caliper is just used to (normally) brake under let's say 60mph. Everything above that it uses the second caliper as well. Or when you need the make a emergency stop.

Still, it was a joy to watch not only the experience but good to know someone who actually handles the car smoothly and skilfully while being considerate at the same time in such areas as lane discipline.

  • @Maximum_777
    @Maximum_777 Před 2 lety +1

    The headlights are always interesting to me in luxury or really even just more modern cars however my Subaru is from 2003, the high beams cancel out my low beams and fog lights, (all stock) making the road darker all in all and although I understand the purpose of the high beams is to illuminate further down the road they are sometimes scary to use because you loose all that close up visibility of the road. In this Maybach however it seems the high beams and low beams both illuminate at the same time or at least it looks that way from what I can see here at 15:16, where none of the closer reflectors on the road get darker when the high beams come on.

    • @VMAdventures88
      @VMAdventures88 Před 2 lety

      Nearly 99% of cars use high and low beams at the same time.

    • @Maximum_777
      @Maximum_777 Před 2 lety

      @@VMAdventures88 really? That's so interesting, they're entirely different bulbs on my car (I re read this and it sounds like I think the bulbs just get brighter on other cars or something lol, I understand that high beams and low beams are always from separate bulbs, just wanted to make it clear that this is indeed the case and the lows turn off) and clicking over to high beams turns off the lows and cancels out the fog lights, only illuminating the high beams, I wonder if something's legitimately wired wrong or something, I always thought it was odd. My only thought is it's a voltage thing, but I could see that being something on like a 1960s car, not a 2003 car. All in all I'm gonna look into this more.

    • @VMAdventures88
      @VMAdventures88 Před 2 lety

    • @Maximum_777
      @Maximum_777 Před 2 lety

      @@VMAdventures88 Well after researching it a bit it seems a majority of older cars with a two bulb headlight setup indeed will do as my car does and cut power to the lows to ensure the high's are at their full brightness when they're in use. I'm pretty sure only modern cars and cars with more powerful eclectic systems in general can illuminate both at once however it also appears to really just depend on how the car is designed, there really seems to be no rule of thumb. Looking into it further, 2003 Subaru's in general are also supposed to have high beams that work like mine do so I don't think anything's wrong.
