  • So as you guys know, Konglish is a form of English that only exists in Korean. For fun, I gave my brother and my friend the good 'ol Konglish quiz. It was really cool seeing what they thought the words were haha. Especially since I'm so used to all of these terms. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the video :)

      Nope! In the U.S. (or at least where I'm from in California) we call it PDA, which stands for a Public Display of Affection. There isn't really a single word for it in English, so we have a whole phrase that we abbreviated.

    샤프나 매직 같은 경우 회사 이름이 대명사가 된 경우입니다.
    샤프를 제작하는 샤프라는 회사가 있었고 샤프 겉면에 샤프라고 영어로 적어져 있었죠 ;;
    매직은 일반적으로 많이 쓰던 유성팬에 회사가 매직팬이라고 이름을 붙여서 매직이라고 부르게 된거에요.
    이와 비슷한게 포크레인이 있는데 포크레인도 회사명입니다.
    굴착기인데 한국에 있는 대부분의 굴착기가 과거엔 포크레인 회사 제품이다 보니 차량 겉면에 포크레인이라 적어진 글을 읽다 대명사가 된겁니다.
    한가지 물건의 한 회사가 거의 독점을 해버리면 그 회사 이름이나 제품명이 종종 대명사가 되는 경우도 있습니다.

    • @user-qq2wh2mx5n
      @user-qq2wh2mx5n Před 7 lety +23

      최근에서는 화이토라고 하지만 우리가 아는 와이셔츠가 일본에 전래된 건 메이지 시대인데, 외국인이 white shirt를 말한 게, 일본인이 와이셔츠로 알아듣고 계속 사용해 내려왔던 겁니다
      그때 당시에는 일본에 영어가 처음 알려지던 시대니까 그렇게 들었을 수도 있었죠

      No one really knows where or when the term actually started. Some say that it is because the original "man to man" was the sweat shirts used by basketball athletes back in 80s~90s. And they decided to name the sweat shirt after one of the technical terms in basketball called man to man. This word is only used in Korea and Japan like this.

    • @pyorhun
      @pyorhun Před 7 lety +13

      bcoz korea used to be dominated by japan. so in life , we can see many japanese words here. i think why swear shirt is called 'man to mam' is bcoz japanese used it first. and why we call dress shirt Y-shirt is the same.

    Y-shirts comes from japan actually. Japanes call dress shirts as “white shirts”, but to pronounce “white” is little bit difficult for them. So they pronounce it “wai shirts/Y-shirts”, and then it spread to korea.

    맨투맨(Man-to-Man) 은 정말 우리나라에만 있는 콩글리쉬인데 어원이 애매함.
    원래 농구에서 말하는 1vs1 개인 방어를 뜻하는 말인데 농구선수들이 입는 훈련용
    상의와 비슷하게 생겼다는 것에서 유래됐다는 게 가장 설득력 있는 말로 알려져 있음.
    정확히 어디서 나온 말인지는 아직 알려진 바가 없다고.. 맨투맨의 정확한 명칭은 스웻셔츠
