  • A Ride On Kerr Stuart Wren 3128 "Roger" Around The Statfold Barn Garden Railway - 11/07/21
A gentle ride around the garden railway which was the first railway at the Statfold Barn Railway. Credits to the driver who was also also Fireman and Guard!
Roger is a 0-4-0ST, Built on the 31st of July 1918. In June of 1959 it was sold to a Canadian collector. In 2013 Charles Matthews the owner contacted Statfold about a complete overhaul for 3128. However due to differences in certification between the UK and North America meant the loco could not return and subsequently was purchased by Statfold.
    Thanks for watching!

The engine was named after the late Roger Matthews, son of Charles (Senior). His brother, Charles built a relatively short (~500') track around the house that he and Roger had lived in their entire lives. On Charles's passing, it returned to Statford.
Charles Senior had amassed quite a collection- the majority of the collection was passed to the Ontario Agricultural Museum, forming something like 50% of the collection. He was a house mover, as were his sons, who were great supporters of the Ontario Electric Railway Museum in Rookwood. The collection extended to 3 Sentinel waggons, the superheated Garret wagon, a pair of plowing engines, Micheal, King of the Scarlets, the Wren (Roger) and a 2' gauge Cranberry Engine (ex Bobber Gibbs). The Kirkfield (Ontario) 0-4-0's passed through their ownership, (the old pair, not the last in use), and a mountain of other stuff- Kirkfield side dump hoppers, ford T engines, maple leaf barbed wire....there was mountains (literally !) of stuff in the yard. It's my understanding that King of the Scarlets was run in the early 1960's at Langstaff.
