Exactly, itâs quite a simple change
Everyone is saying this. Southgate will persist with the same shite formation.
Simple
Very simple change that needs to happen, and everyone can see it apart from Southgate đ I'd even go as far as putting Ollie Watkins up front instead of Kane, too. Added energy up front when he came on!
If Trent came on around the 60th minute mark for Walker yesterday, he could have made a massive impact on the game.
I think it's a tragedy he's not being utilised as an attacking outlet from right back.
100% agree. If we didn't have Walker, Trent could start. But we do have Walker, so Trent should be coming on for him when we need a killer pass or 2. We should also just go with a midfield 3 of Rice, Bellingham and Foden and have someone who will stay out wide on the left. Grealish would be perfect, but he's not there. I'd go with Gordon and use Eze if we need more penetration off the bench.
Even as a Liverpool fan I agree but Trent will still get blamed. đ
He should be glad to get dropped with Southgate manager.
I think Walker has been one of the better players also.
I'm repeating but a 343 would be good to have both on the right side.
Wing back system for TAA
@@michaelclarke6727 Yes but people will say he won't run enough đ

I'd play Rishi Sunak at No. 10 whilst he's still available.

Sorry he's been banned as part of the UK gov financial fair play rules.
You look like a drawing by William Blake.
The only thing fishy rishi can play is with our tax money
Wrighty said it correctly. If you want trent in midfield then play wingers who are gonna make the runs. Trent is made the scapegoat when the tactics of the manager are all over the place.
Play Mainoo/Wharton if you want to have the possession and control with the likes of Foden on lw(which is still not optimal because he wants to be in the middle).
Gareth is not cut out for the job. Pick your best team that fits a system and not the best players and have conflicting ideas. Cant have foden, kane playing when they want to just drop deep adn then have trent who is the best passer but new to the position(learnign on the job) trying to figure out whrre he should pass it.. too congested
I dont understand how youre supposed to execute your signature 60 yard pass if your left winger is moving inside and competing with your number 10.
I get wrights point, but he is missing the main point which is that TAA is not a centre midfielder, he has poor control when central, gets caught napping in possession. He is not a natural defender so does not press in the right position, like dropped off the shot for the goal instead of getting out to it and blocking. He is not and never will be good enough for CM and Iâm a Liverpool supporter btw
Alternatively the players could show some discipline and play where they're needed. Kane needs to stay up Front and Foden needs to stay wide if this is how they set up. Other nations players seem to be able to play in a different role to benefit the team, but not ours apparently. For the record I don't agree with Southgate setting up the way he has, but the players need to take some responsibility too.
@@docwhat8370 I agree they should be able to adapt and at least pass the ball to each other and control it. It is not like they have not seen how they play the role. If Trent is on the ball you make the run. If Foden you give and go. And Saka goes in side FB over laps
Saka was making runs all day, it's just we can't get out of defense competently enough to do it. Part of that is Southgate trying to play out from the back, And part of that is Trent's complete inability to read the game off the ball in that position. Rice and Stones were looking at him as if to say "wtf are you doing"

And you can bring in Palmer for Foden. TAA for Saka. Bowen for Gordon. If you want to go in behind the defense with TAA's passing and are hunting for a goal.
Ian is absolutely right, when Trent was on the ball there was absolutely no movement. Kane running deep, foden standing still and Saka making the occasional run. What is he supposed to do?
Bring Trent on when Gordon and ollie watkins are on the pitch
That's why he's not a midfielder. When teams sit deep which many do so they're hard to beat what's trent doing? Get him wide ans pinning in crosses
Ian is absolutely Wright!
For starters how about not give the ball away 50% of the time.
I find the situation with TAA bizarre. Get him on the wing where he plays at lfc, where he can do what he does best - get long balls into the box. Play him interchangeably with Walker and fix the midfield.
Pundits before the tournament said defence was weak area. In fact, it's only part that's solid...
Id like to see England be more defensive minded and play the ball backwards a lot more. I would personnaly go Pickford - Walker - Gomez - Dunk - Guehi - Trippier - Rice - TAA - Mainoo - Wharton - Kane

Thatâs the exact opposite of the problem lol. Heâs taken a bunch of risks with this lineup and itâs not paying off
I think wharton is the answer. He's the only midfielder that actually can do the 'Rodri's Role'. From what I saw on his debut he's really calm on the ball, his passing is sharp and full of vision and I believe we need an anchor who can dictate the game. I don't see Rice or even Bellingham have the ability for such a real midfielder like that.
100% youâre spot on. Heâs exactly what we need in that midfield, someone who can play on the half turn. That Spanish type midfielder as you say who everyone plays off of. Heâs exactly that.
This lot were calling for Trent to play in midfield before the first game. Love them all as players, but it shows how much former pros actually know about the game.
Gary talking about how England are making the same mistake by trying to fit in the star players yet when he's talking about TAA and the fact that they'll talk about him in 7-8 years time he fails to realise the fact that you're essentially making the same mistake all over again, putting reputation over balance and the greater good of the team.
What is frustrating is that not much needed to change from the World Cup team that did well.
Guehi has done well in Maguire's place.
Shaw is expected back.
He just needs to select a proper replacement for Henderson from Mainoo, Wharton, or Gallagher.
Waste of time playing Trent if he has no options to play over the top , England play so backwards, they are afraid to make runs , there is no movement off the ball, no manager could manage this team, there Egos are out of this Galaxy, Klopp could not Manage England, impossible job!!
TAA has poor close control in central areas, he can not defend at RB and that is worse in CM, his passing centrally is average. He just canât play there , even with runners ahead , he would be caught out again and again.
Klopp is just as average as Southgate.
Buvac moulded the team for him and they won of his tactics of course they started implementing some new things with his assistant pep but they took away from the strengths they had with buvac tactics. Eventually they were a team that shows potential but falls apart in the last 10 weeks of each season.
The position based football was copied from pep of city, and so was hendo overlapping of salah to cross. that provided some goals but when it didn't work Trent was left exposed as hendos main role was to protect Trent, so they started to send hendo forward and then we started to see trents weaknesses.
There was a spell the city fullbacks were underlapping and so did Liverpools shortly after. Recently cities fullbacks started drifting into midfield and klopp and his assistant started doing the same with Trent. Even more recently pep of city fielded John Stones in the middle and they started doing that with Joe Gomez.
What are your thoughts now?

Bellingham playing two positions is your main issue - needs to be reigned in and foden brought into middle. Wont happen though and we will enjoy watching it go wrong again. :)
Foden, Jude and Kane all want to occupy the same space, and the coach is incapable of finding solutions. Carloâs Milan âChristmas Treeâ formation would work with this group of players (Foden and Jude as narrow 10s behind Kane with Trent and Trippier offering width), however the only thing Gareth knows about Christmas trees is that theyâre green and you hang baubles off them. Can see why GNev failed as a coach. Constantly saying " we can't leave foden, can't leave TAA" etc etc. If its not working and they're not playing well enough why keep playing them? When you have other options. Even Watkins cameo is enough to deem that if Kane keeps wanting to drop so deep , play him as a second striker behind watkins becase England desperately need someone up there to strech the pitch. @@margowalters donât think it all hangs on Wharton but at least he would know the position and where to be. Love Trent but if klopp didnât trust him in midfield then why should we.
Like I said, I was not knocking Whartonâs ability. My opinion has more to do with the tactical ineptitude of this manager to assemble the match day 11 with a game plan. And if that game plan revolves around Whartonâs abilities to sit as a 6 against Slovenia and regain possession because our attackers canât maintain it against the 57th ranked team in the world, weâre done for.

@@jjkanal640 Seriously, it is better to select any top Championship left back. Even if he cannot overlap, you will definitely get some old school defending. This will free up Rice to advance.
Itâs baffling the amount of people asking for changes to be made to the side, like thatâs the main issue? How can you have a front 6 of Rice, Trent, Bellingham, Kane, Foden, Saka, and not be able to keep the ball/create chances against Serbia and Denmark? The games have been even in possession! I know possession doesnât mean a great deal, but our players our simply better than theirs, and Southgate canât coach them to get, and keep the ball. All that front 6 dominate football matches they are involved with at club level. Suddenly they canât?
That in itself is massively worrying and shows complete tactical ineptitude from Southgate. Itâs never been more clear than now that heâs completely out of his depth, when the plan isnât to sit back and counter. Even in recent tournaments, the majority of our goals came from set pieces.
We will be out in the RO16 if we draw any semi decent side. We will thankfully then see the back of Southgate and onto the next.
As always, we need someone who can take the ball off the back 4 and spread it around comfortably. Rice isnt that guy, thats why Arteta doesnt play him there. Mainoo is also too attacking.

Gordon can keep the width on the left and also make penetrating runs in behind. Mainoo and Gordon have to come in for Trent and Saka imo.
As long as Southgate picks players who know how to âtake the kneeâ weâll be OK !
??? Tf. Weirdo
You need to get Trent in the team, but we also need Walkerâs defense. Here are 3 ways to do it:
1. Move to a 3-4-3 and have Trent play RWB with Walker as the RCB. Has a lot of defensive stability but also lets Trent do his thing
2. Have Trent play LB like what Cancelo did at City and invert when we have possession. Stop the stupid tactic of having the LB do overlapping runs, itâs just not working.
3. Have Trent play RB in a back 4 and have Walker be the CB next to him. Definitely the most attacking and audacious option, but Walkers pace and intelligence means heâll be able to cover Trentâs space pretty well

successful by playing a certain way, and thats been simple football, with 2 holding midfield player in a 3, being well origanised
with pace up front on either side with kane down the middle in a 3. Sterling has statistically been Englands best player in
this period, the guy got England to a final and so did Grealish and Rashford and Sake and Kane. England have gone from
having 4 top class forward players, who could terrorize defenders, get in behind, create and link up and score goals
on either flank, to only Saka on the right, who in these last 2 games, him and walker are the only players who are creating
chances and getting in behind defenders. In my opinion, England have got to make do with who they have at the moment
and try and emulate that, I think Bellingham must play along side rice as the 2nd holding midfield player in a 3, with perhaps
Foden or Palmer. I think gordon and Watkins should be used out wide on the left, one as the starter and one as cover, with kane
down the middle and Toney as cover with Saka on the right with Bowen as cover. If Southgate doesnt wake up and revert
back to the things that have brought England, the progressive success before. England will get terribly embarrassed in
the last 16. Listen England are not going to get to a final this time around, but if sothgate can sort them out and make
brave decisions atleast we can show a little bit of heart going forward and not get embarrassed, and atleast it will be his
last tournament anyway. Only a miracle can take england to a final and its not going happen, they aint playing possum
either, the guys wasted his picks and blew the tournament from the start. This England squad is not better than the
2020 squad.
Gordon on the left.. Foden 10 and Rice / Jude CM.. Saka on right to switch with Palmer. Drop Trent, too unpredictable and inconsistent, makes mistakes.
My take (maybe unpopular) is weâve played 2 teams now who have played with a back 3 and struggled. The press has been picked apart. Denmark were winning 2nd balls and their back 3 were comfortably sitting on the half way line.
I honestly think we should match teams formation wise. Play Walker, Stones and Guehi at the back, Shaw hugging the touchline from Wingback, TAA (playing as a wingback) drifting in. Rice as a 6, Jude as an 8 (I know he played 10 at Madrid) and Foden and Saka as 10s (like Leverkusen play). Kane had been shocking and we all love Watkins!
Saka can drift wide, Foden is central, Rice can protect, Jude move into the left half space, TAA can play a role more like he does at club level. It just makes sense to me.
The way they talk about some players honestly baffles me.
Trent simply isn't good enough to start for England and I really don't know why they act like it's a crime for him not to play - he's not the best right back in the squad, and he's a liability in midfield.
Foden is a.very talented player and just had a fantastic season - but that was in a different role and system, playing a very particular kind of football under Pep. He doesn't fit the system England are trying to play, and he makes the attack very imbalanced. England need a more direct, pacey winger to play on the left of Kane.
Trent is literally the best crosser in the world and englands best passer and crosser. Use your brain
You either have a defensive RB in an already defensively minded team (even if you swap Trent for Gallagher, Mainoo in mid - You're now even more defensive) or you put Trent in RB to be more of an attacking threat. Walker just has pace and can defend - Imagine playing Gordon and being able to switch play to him in space, Foden centrally behind Kane absorbing all of those crosses, it would be fucking disgusting.
WHARTON IS THE PLAYER ENGLAND ARE CRYING OUT FOR!!!!

I don't understand why Sakas place is never questioned
Because he always preforms? â@@kopite998
@@kopite998 tbf to saka he actually makes runs and has 1/2 assists so far in the euros
England should play 4 1 2 3
Leave the back for n drop trent put rice as holding then play belly n forden in front of him then saka on the left n kane n godern on the right as more natural ring wing
Doesn't matter who starts if there are no attacking tactics
100 years of International football. One đ for England. Enough said.

@@owenmiller7920 that leads to my main point: we need a manager that knows how to use our players to their strengths
This is what i think,
Kane can't press and is unfit and hasn't played a full 90 minutes for months, Foden is ineffective, Rice is overrun in midfield because Bellingham doesn't want to track back and Alexander Arnold is out of his depth, Southgate can get the blame for playing this squad but the players have to take the blame for being unable to execute whatever game plan he gave them because there aren't good enough to do it.
what needs to happen is this change formation to 4-4-2, Foden needs to be dropped or played on the right instead of Saka, Kane needs to be a 45 minute player, Alexander Arnold needs to be out of midfield and on the subs bench as a right back.
On the right Walker and Foden play together for Man City, know each other, can player well together.
on the left Trippier and Gordon, play together for Newcastle, know each other, can player well together.
Kane is the striker furthest forward and Bellingham just behind.
Starting 11 from left to right

Well it seems pretty clear as to what England need to do for the next match, Gordon on the left move Foden to the number 10 play Wharton in the number 8 and move Trent to RB so you can rest Bellingham and Walker who will be needed for the stronger sides. Maybe even drop Rice and play Bellingham there if you wanted 2 midfielders to attack in possession? You donât need all of that defensive solidity for Slovenia, go all out.
We should have a full starting 11 made up of right backs playing out of position.
Southgate is an absolute clown and has ruined a generation of gifted footballers
Why do people keep defending TAA, he is not world class: not good enough defensively to be a RB, not good enough playmaker to be a CM
TAA is trash.
I think he's probably the best playmaker on the team but his style of play requires players to run in behind, sometimes a players style of play doesn't match the teams style of play
world class for Liverpool but unfortunately under Southgate England play like man utd so everyone looks bad
I think it says alot that we're talking about Mainoo and Wharton, the two least experienced players in the squad, to come in and solve the problem.
If the solution involves them then the problem clearly runs deep
I have two line ups. Foden, Bellingham and Rice in Midfield or Foden out with wharden, Bellingham and rice in Midfield
Forget Luke Shaw, Drop Tripper and get Gomez in!
Why? Trippier was solid for England.
Gomez đđđđ thanks for the laugh
Trippier considering is playing out of position has done well! Guehi has been the only other posituve.
Gomez has zero skill. Shaw is twice the player Gomez is.

Clown. Drop that slug Kane
No Foden needs to be in the midfield it should be rice cdm and Bellingham and Foden being CM/ CAM and then saka should be on the right and left could either be palmer/gordon also whereâs u left back in that squad???
@@x_MVP wtf are you on about
With Guehi playing like this, I see maguire having a hard time getting back into that England XI
U need to play arnold with watkins. Simple. Pair him with a forward that constantly looks to run in behind. Like wrighty said.. he's got no one to play too.
Players need to get the ball moving quicker. Were the only country who would try and use the manager as a scapegoat. Players need to get it together
TAA should not start in CM again. He may be able to play those long balls but he loses almost every physical battle, he can't tackle and his positional awareness in that position is off.
Man u solved a system that wasn't really working all season by essentially dropping the striker and playing a box with 2 wingers. 2 10s to receive and a bit of counter attacking. If you were looking to the future you could get Bellingham to drop next to rice, play Foden and Palmer as the 10s and let Gorden and Saka run the wide areas. That's a quite simple and effective way of playing. Kane can always come on later in games
Trippier at LB woule work, if we didn't play a CAM on the LW.
Shaw at LB would make it a bit less bad.
But you'd still have a CAM playing LW.
Major issue.
No black or Irish players which is our whole starting 11!!!
Weâre going to end up like the French team eventually most are African
Spot on here. Gareth needs to drop a few big names and stop trying to shoehorn players in different roles. Play the best player in each position even if it means TAA, Rice, Foden, Palmer on the bench.
We can talk about what Gareth should do, but he's still dreaming about Kalvin Phillips
The logical solutions: Leave the defence alone for Slovenia. If a couple of them need a rest. Then rest them. Change the attack on the training ground and pick the 3 best pressers. Change the midfield on the training ground and pick the 3 best quick passers of the ball. Simplify selection then add tactics with alternate plans and solutions.
Biggest problem for a England now and the last two decades is a weak managers inability to get a balanced team and make the difficult choices of benching stars. Most other countries get it right. Not England. You donât play Scholes left wing, you bench one of him Gerrard or Lampard. You do the same with one of Jude Rice and Foden unless you get Rice to play the holding role. Foden isnât a left winger. Trippier isnât a left back. Trent isnât a CM. Get the balance right. Now is not the time to experiment
It makes no difference who they pick. England players look as if they are playing in straitjackets . No passion, no intensity and no aggression.
Gareth Southgate needs to make big decisions. Two big questions to address ; who plays no 10 role and who partners Declan Rice in CDM ?
My thoughts: 4 - 2 - 3 - 1
4 : Use the current back four
2 : Declan Rice with either Connor Gallagher or Kobbie Mainoo ( I will pick Gallagher ahead of Mainoo)
3: Saka ( RW), Foden ( no 10) , Eze( LW )
1 : Harry Kane
He can bring in Gordon for Eze/Cole Palmer or Bellingham for Foden/Jarrod Bowen for Saka/Ollie Watkins or Toney for Harry Kane/ Mainoo for Gallagher depending on match circumstances.
To be honest, having too many good players creates a selection headache, but he should focus on picking the "best balanced squad" rather than "best individual players". The worst selection is the one that just chop and change players based on individual talents rather than critically evaluating the need to balance the team.
