  • Welcome to Scapa 2020 The Series.
Well it's day two of diving and the first of the "deep" wrecks. I loved the Coln, by far my favourite wreck of the week.
A brilliant wreck, mostly intact with a plethora of life and shoals of fish sweeping over the wreck made for a absolutely magical dive. Whilst the diving yesterday was okay, today's diving showed why Scapa is such a magical place.

Wish I'd had all this fantastic detail and information before i first dived this in 1982.
The lifeboat still had it's prop then.😮

Nice video. Takes me back. I visited Scapa Flow in 1996 & 1997 and dived the Coln both times. We didn't have GoPros in them days 😉. We used to go in May when the water was 6'c. No problem after a full English breakfast at the B&B first.

Were the ships in Scapa lost in battle with lives lost with them or were they scuttled on purpose without human lives lost? If war casualties with lives lost, the government didn't declare them "war graves" and banned diving on them?

The entire German first fleet was interned in Scapa as during the negotiations to end WW1. The were disarmed before arrival. The admiral in charge wasn’t given up to date news on how negotiations were going, so to stop the fleet falling into British hands, he ordered the scuttling of the entire fleet. 74 ships all went down in a couple of hours. As I say in the vids, check out the Scapa website as that has all the detail of what happened, info about the ships and you get to have a play with the 3D scans too 👍

    How cold was the water?

It was around 14c, which is pretty comfortable in a drysuit to be fair. I wasn't cold on a dive on any during the trip. Bonus!!
