- It's amazing that once I sat down and learned how to fish a swim jig how fast it became one of my favorite baits to throw when I'm searching for fish. It is weed less and can come through the thickest cover. I know that once you learn how to fish it you will love it too.

Love a swim jig, the most versatile lure there is. Green fish tackle and Dirty Jigs No-Jack swim jigs are my favorite. When I’m using a Rage bug I get more bites when I rig it sideways.
Fluke, we must have a psychic link. I was just thinking last night that I want to get better with a swim jig. Today you upload. This is not the first time either. Lol
Thank you so much for the tips brother!
Same exact thing with me I was thinking in class I really wish I knew more about hugs and then boom 😂
You are by far the most informative person out there when making a how to video on my opinion. And you’re easy to listen to. Thank you for the info!
I’m in MN and I fish swing jigs all the time. Bass and pike love them.
I'm from central MN and a swimjig is on at least one of my rods from mid-spring all the way thru the end of fall. As soon as the weeds get too thick for a chatterbait to rip thru, a swimjig is my go-to searchbait for the rest of the year. Great vid Fluke!
Just caught my first 2 swim jig bass after going on a absolute spree catching 4 4+ pound bass in a week on a casting jig. The swimjig bass weren’t that huge but they gave me confidence. Using your videos and a bunch of others to tune my craft now😵💫
Been hitting many of your videos over the past couple days. You are a great guy, accomplished and u give back so much unselfishly - can't thank you enough. Bought up a good supply of swim jigs and trailers for them norther lakes this spring but so far (I'm in the year of COVID-19 2020) I haven't had the courage to get my boat out just yet cause its scary out there! I'm shooting for May 1st . I take notes often times to refer back to later, and you are clearly organized in your presentations, making it so much more interesting to learn from you.
Thank you Bruce. I understand being concerned about C19. I'm fortunate that I have a couple smaller lakes down the road that are well managed by our local game wardens and they have done a lot to help us maintain a safe distance at boat ramps and parking lots.
I fished earlier today right between a band of thunderstorms and I couldn't get anything to bite but I knew there were fish there. I put on a swim jig with a home-poured blue curly tailed grub and BOOM! Fish started hammering it. I went from a few bites in an hour to 10 fish in about 20 minutes. Now my phone won't recognize thumb-print and I've got the summer swim jig to blame! So glad for this video!
Thank you, sir. Just in the 😊last couple of weeks here in south Florida I have fished some new lakes and started to catch fish on jig. Very cool, and I appreciate the knowledge you share.
That is awesome!
I love a swim jigs im from northeast pa i love a football headed jig but we have so much grass i started using a swimg jig and fall in love with it and now its the first bait i tie on
570 bassin same, I’m in Maryland and the larger swim jigs come through the grass so much easier
Andrew Wolf people seem to think a finesse jig would fish better in heavy veg but they don’t stay perpendicular when pulling through.. a heavier jig cuts right through and stays upright.. easier to get loose if u end up getting hung up too. I fish a 3/8-1/2 in a pond if i know they’re in the thick, just fish it faster like a chatter
tommyd3jr exactly, they get hung up too easy
Wisconsin here, I always have a swim jig, doesnt matter what color. If I want to just catch one it's my go-to. Anytime, any day. Thanks for the tips!
Thank you so much for this video Gene. I've been wanting to gain confidence with my jigs. This will certainly help me!
Thanks a bunch Gene! Just started using a jig really, of any type, and the swim jig is one of my favorites so far! Love the weedless ability! Absolutely love your tips! I’ll be trimming some skirts before my next outing for sure! Keep up the amazing work my man! 🐟🎣
Just caught a 7lb on a bluegill color swim jig two days ago. I love jigs
I just ordered me a couple of swim jigs in a bluegill color. Going to be trying them out this weekend.
I LOVE A Curly-Tail Grub on a Swim Jig. Nice video!
The swim jig is a great tool here in Illinois. A black and white swim jig really produces for me on a lake with black crappie. Great video, Gene, thanks.
I remember when you wasn’t to fond of swim jigs.... love the video.
Caught my pb on a swim jig 4 weeks ago
How much did it weigh
Awww yissss, the video I requested on a Friday Night Live superchat nearly a year ago. Thanks Gene
You are the one that made me decide to learn how to fish it and it’s become a confidence bait for me. Thank you!!!
gaumer10 Rock on Brother, Tks for getting Gene on the swim Jig! I needed this video because I’ve been try to catch one in a swim jig all year and still riding the skunk train here in SC. 🤷♂️😞
Flukemaster oh and Gene, Go Gators, of course!!!😎
Ok, I've watched about 20 of your videos on teaching fishing techniques, tackle boxes, and you know what? Subscribed. I like how you break it down, how you showed the kind of area you're fishing in, how to pull the rig/bait back in, how to set up the jig - KEEP THIS UP!
Swim jigs are my favorite subsurface bait... Nichols saber swim jig with a rage swimmer tail
I'm in MI and I fish swim jigs all the time, I think you're right though, don't see many people doing it. Fish tear them up, caught many pike and walleye on them also.
Fluke is posting how to videos will fishing in Mille Lacs and live streaming. Thanks for being so dedicated Gene!
Got a box full , most of my jigs are swim jigs, maybe one or 2 are football head and round head. Catch 5 pounders in MN all the time
MooseGotGame yeah I use to buy flippin jigs and a ton of finesse jigs but then I fell in love with the swim jig cuz it does all the above , catches big and small
Finally picked up one of the Evergreen swim jigs- you were right, they're perfect. I've fished everything from Dirty Jigs to 6th sense to Alan's swim jigs which are hand tied, but Evergreen wins it hands down with the Grass ripper. Perfect head shape, perfect size, the weed guard is even perfect- the skirts are awesome, and the colors while not extensive are really good. B'hite delight, Spot remover, fire craw, black and blue, and green pumpkin- that's everything I need. The only swim jig I've found that rivals it is the Mega Bass ouze- it's a swim jig/underspin combo though, so they're really different enough to use both. Thanks for turning me on to the Evergreen though- not sure if you were even using them in this video yet.
Ok folks - let's talk about the elephant in the room...
1) Does Gene not remind you of Mr Rogers? I mean, the way he breaks things down and his soft tone makes you just want to go out an learn fishing. All he needs to do is toss his rod from one hand to the other like Rogers does his shoe!!
2) The expression on Gene's face when that bite unexpectedly hit (at 10:10 mark)! It was priceless!
All jokes aside - love the videos, learning a lot, and already subscribed. Keep 'em coming Gene!
ROFL. That's great Shea. I'll try to remember that for my next video. "Won't you be my neighbor".
Greenfish tackle makes a great swim jig!!
In Florida I ALWAYS have a swim jig or two rigged. My favorite for fishing in the abundance of aquatic vegetation. Sometimes it's about the only thing you can throw other than a frog.
never fished a swim jig but recently bought some. Thanks for the tips!!!
Any time!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!! I just got into to swim jigs and havent been real sure if i was doing things right while using it but now i know thank you
3/8oz green pumpkin or white with a Keitech 2.8 to 4in trailer is the sauce for me ALWAYS! My 100% confidence bait for sure! I favor a shorter trailer because (in my mind) i get a hook set on every bite, I’ll even trim a skirt so i can can fit a 2.8.. as i was typing u said “trim the skirt” 😂
Gene you’re the first the best and my favorite to watch talk about fishing!!! Hope your channel and business continue to succeed so you do this for another 10 years!!!
I appreciate that!
Swim jigs are very popular among tourney bass fisherman in my part of Wisconsin. Especially in spring.
Going to fish in Minnesota? Boy I'm envious, It is so stinkin miserable hot down here in Florida in the Summer. 🥵
Awesome, got a lot of strong bites today with this, right when I bumped the grass, or I’d reel it stop and they’d destroy it. Great fish finder. Thanks
Dude that rage menace trick looks legit, wonder if a cutter worm would do the same thing but have a thinner profile🤔🤔
Thank you! A pond I fished in the spring with good success had a bunch of weeds when I went there last weekend. I completely forgot about my swim jig, I'm sure that'll be the difference maker
🔥🔥YOU FORGOT TO PUT YOUR RODS REELS LINE ETC IN DESCRIPTION🔥🔥🔥I love that divine Swim Jig 6th sense makes, it comes through grass really well. And the Divine swimbait goes on it very well
I actually have that 7’4 heavy 13 fishing makes I use it for frogging too but medium swimbaits big whopper ploppers even, but especially swim jigs!
im in southeast pa, just started making and using swim jigs. thanks for the vid on them! been doing a bunch of digging around seeing where and when to throw them. got a few so far on them!
Wisconsin loves swim jigs!!! Thx for the video!
Very well explained for us 'common folk". Thanks for your time man!
I caught a few very nice smallies in Ontario Canada this weekend on a blue Gill coloured swim jig with a rage menace threaded up and down instead of traditional.
Very nice!
Thank you for all your tips and tricks as well as your secrets. 🎣🐟
Just had to drop in and say thanks. Caught my first bass today on this rig. 17 inch hybrid
That is awesome!
Gene Im glad you covered the topic of swim Jigs. With High school fishing teams starting up there season good information for them and use old farts too!
I’ve watched 100 swim jig videos this year and this is by far one of the best! Great info! #OhMy
i fish the colorado river on the Az Ca border with decently fast current and frequent depth changes. Everyone i know that fishes here usually sticks to the banks but probably 35-40% of the time you cant get a lot of bites and was just looking for any idea as to how i should fish or what i could try differently
depth varies from 4’-20’ with a steep sloping bank but about 2’ off the bank the grass grows from around 8-10’ and comes either to the top of the water and mats up or about 6” below the top
constantly get hung up and its harder to fish a worm since by the time your bait hits bottom youve already floated past it due to the current and you end up gettin hung
I was fishing Swim jigs up at Mantrap lake in minnesota a couple weeks back and I was annihilating the pike up there. Not a ton of bass bites but I must have caught 30 pike on those things.
Thanks for the tips I fish jigs all the time in deep water in shallow I flip a lot know I'm going to try to fish a swim jig more thanks for the tips
WOW ... GENE That's the first time I've watched one of your videos with you getting skunked... But... That happens to the best of us ... Thanks for telling me to JUST Use the jig to get confidence in it ... I had to do the same with the Whopper plopper .. Just learn to use it.🙂🙂
Love Jigs in MN!!!
My favorite fishing channel on CZcams, thanks for all the vids!
That’s my favorite swim jig the Scottsboro Tackle it is always on the deck of my boat.
I always use a swim jig in suburbs of Chicago thanks for the great video
thank you for the knowledge . I am a Fishing noob and have seen dozens of other videos that show how to rig jigs and all kinds of other stuff but they never talk about how to work the bait. they just say hey walk the dog or alabama shake it but they never explain what that means.
Absolutely love the Sixth Sense Devine swimjig.
Thanks for the tips. I got some just don’t fish them enough to have confidence. But Iam start fishing with them more
It would be a dream to fish with gene one day, i would learn so much. I cant catch bass for sh*t lol. I always appreciate the videos gene !
I go to Scottsboro Tackle at least once a week! Maybe i will run into you there one day.
Awesome tips Gene. Love it! 👍👊
I also want to say Dirty Jigs make the best swim jigs out there 6th senses are pretty good too...Thanx Gene great video!
Kansas and Missouri have an odd mix of rock bottom and muddy bottom rivers, lakes, and ponds. Been fishing rooster tails and crankbaits heavy with great success, but it seems like swim jigs may be the more flexible option. I wonder how white bass and wipers like them since their mouths are a little smaller?
Awesome video Gene thanks for making this.
Man I always enjoy every video you make! For a future video could you maybe go into detail on blueback herring lakes and how to approach them compared to what most are probably use to with a normal shad lake
This Wisconsin fisherman is planning on fishing swim jigs this spring.
I can’t wait to you catch a 12 pound bass and in the intro and you’re like this is my first fish of the day
"oops I landed on a carps head" love it! thank you
If you're throwing a bluegill color rig that menace sideways with both tails 😯🔥🔥🔥
I love swim jigs and I’m in New England. So far my fave trailer is a Fat Albert singletail grub but that menace trailer looks awesome. I like swim Jigs bc I feel they’re an amazing “all terrain vehicle”. I’m curious to know how water clarity affects your selection, though. Some say it’s more of a clear water lure? Would love to know your thoughts. Thanks for all the great vids and tips. You’ve definitely helped me be a better angler.
I am from Southeast Minnesota, fishing pool 6 of the Mississippi and all I throw is the swim jig its just dangerous!
Great info! I greatly appreciate teaching people how to!
"I don't know why black and blue works so good" ... Black and blue works good because it imitates a crayfish that hasn't been eating any vegetation. They turn dark brown w/blue accents when there's less green algae in the areas they're feeding. Also, the species of crayfish that live on deep rocks are darker with more blue. I learned this information on youtube today. :)
Was wondering if you had a video on tube fishing? Wondering if have advice...
I have used it here in Arkansas in some ponds and have done alright. I'm using a a lews bait cast 7.5.1 6.10 med/hvy fast action with 15lb fluro. Is that to much? Oh and use a 3/8 ounce jig head. Love the show and thanks for teaching. Been watching since last summer. Just getting into the bass fishing. Now if you wanna catfish you let me know I can show you a thing or two lol!
Great video, thanks.
Sorry about your dad, I'm sure he is proud
@flukemaster, donyou ise swim jigs in Georgia in April? I'm new to jigs and trying to get better. Thanks
Got my PB & J after fishing a swim jig. Shout out to Smuckers and Jiffy
I always have a plan to use the swim jig, but can never commit to it. Don’t have the confidence in it. Watching this video got me motivated! I’m going to work the swim jig next time I’m out.
Hope it works for bank fishing.
I love your instruction videos
I love his voice
Keeping the bugs off is the #1 use for my neck gaitor lol
Thanks great lesson
Could you or have you done a video on how to best use your graphs? I bought a Helix for my boat and have never used one and only kind of know what I’m looking for.
Congratulations Beautiful Video.
*Hug!!!* 👍🎣🐟🐠
Great info, would you fish a bladed swim jig like a project z weedless chatterbait the same way?
If you ever get a chance Gene watch Matt Allens video from Tacticalbassin...I really believe his views on the proper trailer creating the action for you are correct.Too many people over work them in my opinion.
His slow motion footage let's you see it with your own eyes.
I fish the heck out of swimjigs in Northern Illinois
When will chicamaga turn over, and what will you do different to fish during that time ???? U have any videos about that ????? 😎
What is the advantage of the swim jig over the spinner bait? Love the tutorial videos!
I fish a finesse jig with a rage craw trailer on my local lake, bass love it. Love the videos! Sorry if I'm behind on things, but why aren't you sponsored by biospawn?
Do you ever come up to Norris lake in Tennessee?
I am always searching for fish, with whichever bait I am using.
What is your favorite fluke mine is a glimmer and blue by zoom
Lol it’s kinda weird how similar we are, we both fish, we both watch Speros, and I believe based on the ball market on your hat , you also golf like I do. Only difference is.......
You catch big bass
I catch dinks😂😂😂😂
Close but that is actually a fishing tool called the Anglr Bullseye. Click on the link in the description of this video.
Do you make it mn often ?
Great to run into you
Do you still trim skirting if you dont use a trailer and can yoy have success without a trailer
Hey Gene, would this work for water hyacinth, we have a-lot of it where i fish in the swamps. i don't know how to fish hyacinth and there's so much it covers all the trees.
Great video like always
Caught my pb after watching this video on a swim jig
Is that eal grass flat still good over there? Been a few months since I fished near where your doin great on your video
