** The song is pretty simple. I was planning to do it for a while, but I always got sidetracked until I got it as a request. It's basically the same thing repeated over and over and the bass is really easy to hear. In the intro, the bass is playing power chords, but to do that consistently live would be tricky.
    • Boney M. - Daddy Cool ...
this is the only video I could find that showed the bass of daddy cool with Boney M. playing it live. Most of the live versions are them lip-synching over the original song. This one is clearly not that way. It's even tuned down.
You can see in the first few seconds the bass play. You can see the strings, that he's using a pick, and that he's not playing chords. I've listened to this song quite a few times trying to decide how I wanted to tab it out. Should I use the G and D strings around frets 1 and 3 or should i use the A,D,E around 6 and 8? The video I linked makes me want to use the strings they used, so I picked the 2nd option (though I just think it sounds better finger style than with a pick, so that's what I did).
I know on the original you can hear power chords, but I think if Boney M. Didn't play them live, it's fine if I don't play them. Here's why:
-Listening back through the song, going from the intro to the verse, the bass tone doesn't change between the intro and verse. This makes me think they are played the same way.
    - There's no little hiccup going from the intro to the verse, so this reinforces my belief that the bassist played the two parts in the same exact way because it doesn't indicate a switch in playing styles.
    - I've spent many hours trying to play this with the power chords in the intro and then going into the verse that isn't power chords. There's always some slight hiccup. It seems highly improbable that they actually played it that cleanly switching between two styles of playing.
It's these reasons I think the power chords weren't played as power chords. They could have been punched in, but I don't think so. It lines up too exactly. So the other two options I'm thinking of is that there was a pedal or rack effect or something similar that added the 5th (like maybe a harmonizer), or alternatively that the effect was added in the production of the song (maybe duplicating the bass and pitch shifting the duplicated part.
I've spent too long on this tab, haha. I thought it would be a quick and easy thing to tab out, but with all these choices, I've spent about 6 hours trying to tab the thing, and that doesn't include practicing it to see how it sounds.
    Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)
