Evolution of the T. rex Throughout history - 2D animation / ART-uro

- Almost 3 weeks of work, I call it done! T. rex throughout history! And of course, I put the bit of Hakuna Matata where Simba grows up (actually, I mixed both the 1994 and 2019 versions).
This is the most complete animation I've done. Painting took about 3 days alone. Based the first 2 stages on Charles R. Knight paintings, the second is the JP rex and the last one is based off Saurian's new rex, paint inspired on Prehistoric Kingdom concepts and added my own flare based off tigers and birds of prey.
This animation is in part for a pitch I wanna do for college in a couple months of a paleodocumentary on Carnotaurus called "Toro Carnívoro". I intend for it to have 2D animation since that's the field I want to work on in the future. Hope it get's picked up!
As always, hope you like it!
I do not own the song. It belong to it's respective owners.
I love how happy he looks

Timone is a little feathered raptor and pumba is an anky
Actually interestingly the first depiction of a T. Rex running on two legs with the floating tail serving as a counterweight is in 1939's Fantasia by Disney. This is particularly noticeable since every other depiction in the following decades still depicted them as slowly dragging their tails underneath them. The comparative accuracy of the animators in the Rite of Spring segment may actually derive from Disney's insistence on training their illustrators through the observation of real animals in the studio. Undoutebly some animator realised that realistic motion for the T. Rex at any quick pace would be unbelievable if it had to drag a massive lump of meat behind it rather than using it for balance as other animals do. A very rare instance of art actually predating science in deduction.
More like common(ish) sense.
@@mrbuttocks6772
Anyone that works with people for any length of time figured out just how uncommon common sense is.
Of course you see it now, you grew up seeing it.
The mark of true genius is not the one who understands something no one else does but rather that which no one has ever seen before but when described, all can understand.
That animator was likely far mire brilliant than many of the scientists of the day, he saw something obvious, and was willing to risk his career to point it out, so not just intelligent but quite brave.
But it is good to see Disney doing something other than fairytale movies
@@jodibishop-rosales2458 I honestly miss those survival movies
you should look up the heilmann book from 1927. you have struthiomimus with modern gait, along with gorgosaurus having a raised tail. especially for struthiomimus, there was plenty of allusions to it's birdlike traits as far back as when it was originally named in 1916(ostrich mimick) still, it was only with the discovery of deinonychus in the 60s that the debate on posture really became heated.
This made me cry for some reason. The fact that thousands, upon thousands of palaeontologist worked and spent every second of their research to get this beautiful animal looking the way it does just brings a tear to my eye. It is just nice knowing that the work of outdated depictions have not been forgotten in time but rather celebrated for the contribution to our community today.

Everyone: Why doesn't the most recent rendition of the dinosaur have feathers?! >: (
Me: Did people in the 1950's really think a T-Rex looked like a gigantic tadpole?!
Same but my complaint isn't with the 1950s one but the reconstruction from the late 1800s
There is no factual evidence a trex has feather, there is evidence that it had scales, and evidence that they had lips
For an animal that lives in the hot, humid, and semi tropical lands of what is now the western United States, there was really no reason a large animal needed feathers.
We all looked like giant tadpoles at one point or another.

I was so sure that the last version would be covered in feathers. :O That's like a big thing now.
Yes! that's what I thought, but we have more reasons to think that it would only be in the back and not the whole body
But from a 2017 study that looked at skin impressions of tarbosaurus, albertosaurus, and tyrannosaurus, all three had no signs of feathers. And all three being much closer related to each other than the three fingered yutyrannus, it was concluded that tyrannosaurus didn't have feathers. you should look into it, its pretty neat
@@leaftruft1837 Yes, you're right, and that's why I say "on the back", because although the studies conclude they likely didn't have feathers, they are not accurate enough to
to fully rule out the idea that they didn't have any feathers, the most likely case is that they didn't have feathers all over the body, but maybe they did on small sections.

I think the best thing about this is that in the 90s version, the tail flails(which is not accurate), but in the 2020 reconstruction it is stable, you hit the nail on the showing how the image of this species have changed over the years.
Well to be fair,it was considered accurate back then
Amazing, puts me in a good mood
This makes me so uncontrollably happy and I don't why.
As a Lion King AND dinosaur lover..
I think this is beautiful
Timon would be a Troodon and Pumbaa an Ankylosaurus
Just so people understand : We do not and have never possessed direct evidence of feathers in T.rex or its close Tyrannosaurid (not proceratosaur/basal tyrannosauroid) relatives. We in fact have found just the opposite, if we're to take phylogenetic bracketing as the priority in determining integument here then the collective amount of scale impressions we have for derived tyrannosauridae indicates a predominantly if not entirely scaly animal. There's nothing wrong with Arturo skipping ahead from the 90s rendition into 2020, the videos only 15 seconds.
I know right, people are fools, they say cause a chicken has feathers and walks like a dinosaur that all dinosaurs had feathers. Fuckin dumb theory if you ask me.
@@JACKAL98 maybe some had feathers
Large dinosaurs likely didn't have feathers because they would have overheated because large bodies produce a lot of heat. Most very large mammals also dont have fur like elephants and rhinos, because they would overheat. The exception is if they live in a very cold environment like Mammoths, which is why Yutyrannus was feathered because it lived in a snowy cold region, but your regular T.rex lived in hot and humid cretaceous north America, if it was covered in feathers it would have sweated to death.
Paora Lambert No quite, the theory is because we know ancestors of Tyrannosaurus are feathered and so it was reasoned perhaps this trait was inherited.
However we have since found closer cousins lost these feathers and so have amended our models back to scaly.
It’s a bit like human evolution, we know our ancestors had fur but somewhere along the line we lost it. Future alien palaeontologist who never met humans might assume we would be hairy with similar logic
@@Freshie207 good way to look at it makes sense
For all the people asking where the feathers are: It has been confirmed recently that Tyrannosaurus definitely had scales and not feathers unlike his counterparts Dilong and Yutyrannus Huali who made a different turn in evolution, They found this out by compressed sand which had scale markings under the rex his remains, They don’t know if the baby tyrannosaurus had feathers or not tough :)
Yes. They found evidence for baby feathers ig
Dilong is a small dinosaur so its not a surprise that it had feathers
