  • Allelys were contracted to move two 300 ton loads from Shoreham to Ninfield in Sussex, England. Careful precise manoeuvring was required to get round tight corners and under a low railway bridge. Sheer brute power was necessary to get up the hills.
    Here are some highlights followed by a leisurely look at some of the manoeuvrers necessary to get the job done.

    Alleleys never fail to impress with the awesome kit they've got and their drivers are some of the best heavy haulage drivers out there.
    Respect for the driver's and the rest of their team they move some of the biggest loads to hit Britain's roads 🎉🎉🎉

    Nice to see two 80 wheel self steering dollies working like this. I've only even seen a pair of 40 wheelers first hand and that rig was stationary. We went out to a call out at Dungeness Power Station about 40 years back, and replaced two punctured tires on one of the dollies.

    Surely this was a job for Thunderbird 2. I'm told Virgil Tracey was very disappointed not to get the job! however this is a great watch. Thanks so much and best wishes to all involved.

    Seems like it would have been less of an imposition had they moved these loads over night.
    I am also totally confused by the route, we saw the convoy join the A27 at Hangleton then the next thing we see is the convoy travelling the wrong way up the A27 to A23 link road at the Patcham interchange ?

    • @chatty1chatty1NickD
      @chatty1chatty1NickD  Před 2 lety +3

      Oversize lads are banned from night time travel following a fatal accident involving one, some time previously.
      The route taken was to avoid any over-bridges I believe - the loads were over the maximum permitted weight. The river bridge over the Ouse at Lewes was used but had an overbridge built specially to spread the weight, hence the A 27 being closed from the previous evening.
      Nick.

    Because i dont know but you informed people out there will ! 22 seconds in why and what is the advantage of the push tractor unit pushing in reverse?

    • @wordreet

    • @chatty1chatty1NickD
      @chatty1chatty1NickD  Před 2 lety +1

      Not altogether sure - I did hear that they had had difficulty getting through the gates further up the road in the port, maybe it was the only was they could manoeuvrer out. Nick.

      I believe so and the power is transmitted through torque converters.

    We’re they too heavy for the a27 going straight on at the Brighton turnoff or something?

    • @chatty1chatty1NickD
      @chatty1chatty1NickD  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, apparently too heavy for all bridges. They had to build a special overbridge on top of the River Ouse bridge at Lewes to take the weight I read.
