I love this song! It was played at my senior prom. It is bittersweet for me. I was the Tommy Ross. There was a girl who was bullied much like Carrie White was. She was never invited to any of the school's after-school socials and dances. She and I were casual friends and classmates from elementary through high school. I invited her to senior prom and we had such a fun time. Tragically, she took her own life the evening of our graduation. In her suicide note, she thanked me for always being so nice to her and for taking her to prom and the after-prom social. I was the only person from school who went to the funeral. It was a punch in the gut that no one else was at her viewing and funeral. When I hear this song or watch the movie, it evokes so many mixed emotions. I sometimes think back to our relationship and wonder if there was more I could or should have done to change the outcome. RIP Sharon.

Everytime people sees me listening to these kinds of classic songs they would laugh around and say I am old school. 😢 They just don't know how wonderful the feeling it gives to me while listening to classic songs like these..it gives me throwback of those afternoon lying in bed with my siblings and mom with the cold summer breeze..my God. nostalgic it is I also remember my late grandparents...I remember the clear and green mountains...the hills while traveling in a bus...the ocean...my God these songs are so powerful..to me it is like a Time machine it literally brings back the feeling and the scenes and makes me cry.

I love this song and I actually can relate, I was bullied & teased so much in high school, but this one boy actually looked at me differently, while we weren't boyfriend & girlfriend, he was a great friend and sat with me at lunch and helped me with my homework, he was very sweet and never teased me or saw me has this misfit, the way the other kids did, sadly he moved away and I was so sad! But I never forgot his kindness and that was he was the only boy that looked at me as though I wasn't a misfit! After all these years I am still thankfull to him for making me feel special!

There are really people who were God-given in our lives during our lonely times...so sad that they just disappear after fulfilling their tasks and we are just left with memories in our hearts ad forever treasure in our minds......
I regret that I was not able to fight back and retaliate to those people who bullied me when i was a young kid. If only i could go back in time I would really fight and hurt them more than they did to me. What hurts me more was when I told this bullying to my loved ones and to my supposed to be supportive teacher and all of them was kinda blaming me for the bullying. Now that I am parent, I swear I wont let this bullying affects my children. I will be very supportive and if I have to pull something to hurt back the bullyer so be it.

To all the girls/ladies out there who can relate to this song: God bless you all and hang in there. It's painful to be "the odd one out" and to be the one that gets denied and deprived of the pleasures and happiness over and over again, but you can rise above it. All of it is only a result of emotional unhealthiness that you wear on the outside and that hides your beauty and attractiveness. It's there, you've just got to become healthier so that others can see it. It can be done.
