    "It's the most interesting of all [the films] because it takes chances none of the other films are willing to risk." - Cinepunx.com
    Bizarre nightmares plague Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair) four years after her possession and exorcism. Has the demon returned? And if so, can the combined faith and knowledge of a Vatican investigator (Richard Burton) and a research specialist (Louise Fletcher) free her from its grasp?
    Employing production design and special effects that are dizzily exhilarating and a supporting cast (Max von Sydow, Paul Henreid, James Earl Jones) of compelling distinction, director John Boorman draws us into the tangible experience of evil. We fly with the demon, feel the African landscape vibrate and get engulfed in the terror of swarming locusts as Exorcist II: The Heretic weaves its fascinating, frightful spell.

      With it being such a letdown and a sweet, turned extremely disappointing and even hurtful time in her career, yes, her doing an interview specifically about this movie is admirable. It’s odd to me that they can change a project that drastically once they have stars signed on to a certain script. She said 5 rewrites after they were all signed. This couldn’t have been good for any of their careers. Odd that they had no recourse.

    Totally underrated film. People by in large were expecting twice the scare and twice the pea soup but got instead a more sophisticated thriller with philosophical nuance. That was actually the right approach, make something different since the first film understandably can't be topped in the scare department. I suppose you can't shift gears and meet peoples expectations.

    • @NGC6144
      @NGC6144 Před 5 lety +6

      Well, if one didn't like watching the film there comes a point where one is just waiting for it to be over and not anticipating how it will unfold. It wasn't trying to be a horror film like the first. How else would it be characterized, as dramatic "horror-light?" I wouldn't be surprised that those who hate the film wouldn't be able to describe the larger explanatory element of the plot.

    • @benielbman6516
      @benielbman6516 Před 5 lety +9

      *I wouldn't be surprised that those who hate the film wouldn't be able to describe the larger explanatory element of the plot.*
      Well, because it's convoluted and badly presented.
      The character motivations make zero sense and the plot is so far removed from anything I would consider "relatable" that I was, at no point, engaged.
      To the thing about it not necessarily being a horrormovie: That's certainly true, however, if it's a good movie, I wouldn't mind.
      But if it calls itself "Exorcist II", it has the same characters and it claims to explore the events and characters from the first movie further... then it has to play in the same universe!
      But it doesn't. The first movie was very, very realistic, essentially showing a story that could happen in OUR world. The second movie introduces right at the beginning a machine that can make people see other people's memories and thought!
      Not only is that "equalizer"-thing badly explained in what its actual rules are, it's also something that does not fit in the established universe from the first movie.
      You can't call your movie a sequel and then change essentially everything, from characters, to genre, to basic rules of the universe.

    • @NGC6144
      @NGC6144 Před 5 lety +3

      "The second movie introduces right at the beginning a machine that can make people see other people's memories and thought."
      Yeah, that stems from the parapsychology mania at that time. I come from the point of view it is better not to over burden the audience with tedious explanatory dialogue.
      "You can't call your movie a sequel and then change essentially
      everything, from characters, to genre, to basic rules of the universe."
      Yes, I originally acknowledge that with "shifting gears." If Lucas had made Space Balls as the sequel to the Original Star Wars people would have been pissed off or worse if it was a musical. It certainly is not a perfect film but despite it's flaws I found the plot intriguing. The ending needed to be better in some way.

    • @benielbman6516
      @benielbman6516 Před 5 lety +6

      *I come from the point of view it is better not to over burden the audience with tedious explanatory dialogue.*
      Well, I agree, but I don't understand what this has to do with that bizar plot-device. It's clearly a SciFi-device that doesn't fit a movie-world that, up to this point, has delt very much in the realms of plausibility. Also, making the rules of a device that is at the center of a movie clear is NOT "tedious explanatory dialogue". That would be essential. If you can't make essential information to your movie interesting, then you might want to rethink your skript.
      *It certainly is not a perfect film but despite it's flaws I found the plot intriguing.*
      Well, I can give you that.
      Although, the intrigue to me came mainly from the fact that I had no idea what was going on half of the time, and I was hoping for an end which would pull it all together. Which, unfortunatelly didn't happen.
      And I still think that the fact that the characters don't seem to have proper motivations or motives a huge issue. Movies can be either plot-driven or character-driven. And for a plot-driven movie, the plot didn't make enough sense to me, and for a character-driven movie, the characters were unrelatable and didn't seem to have any motivation outside of moving the skript forward.

    In this film, there is Reagan, Sharon, Father Merrin (the actual Exorcist), the House, the Demon (Pazuzu), the possessed Reagan (in horrific makeup). • @Christian_Apologetics
      @Christian_Apologetics Před 2 lety +1

      Problem with Legion (The Exorcist 3) was the constant reference to the Gemini Killer, and very little reference to the first film. Whilst the actual film "Legion" (only available on the Arrow Films release), was filmed with JUST Brad Dourif, and NOT Jason Miller, makes this film (i.e. Legion) insignificant to ANY of the franchise, with NO mention of Father Merrin (the actual Exorcist), one reference to Reagan as "...the McNeil kid..." by the University President, no filming around the real house, apart from at the bottom of the stairs, and a brief unidentifiable scene in the introduction, in the dark, which is hard to tell its actually heading towards Prospect Street. All in all, the second film seems more relevant to the first than the third, with the TWO main characters in (Reagan and Ft Merrin), makes this film GOOD, but not necessarily scary.

    • @Christian_Apologetics
      @Christian_Apologetics Před 2 lety +1

      @James Brice #
      I found the Exorcist 3 as more of a comedy (like the spoof "Reprosessed"), there was too much humour for me, like the dialogue with Kidderman and Ft Dyer in hospital, and other places I just can't quite remember, but hearing this, I could not this film seriously, I loved the introduction where the church doors fly open, the eyes of the statue of Jesus open, and the eerie walk through Georgetown, heading towards the house, although it's taken me a while to realize that it was the house at the end of the introduction, right before the Black Boy gives a rose to the camera.
