This is honestly one of the best pieces of advice I've ever seen regarding practice habits, and it really applies to every instrument. I have not ever consciously thought about this concept, but I've noticed sudden "explosions" in my progress occasionally, and I never understood why sometimes I improve extremely quickly, and then go through a period of not improving much at all. I was astounded to notice that when I was just combining different things I already knew, my progress was accelerated. This confirms exactly what you've explained here. As a bonus, my weakest area right now is arpeggios, so I'm going to follow this exact exercise now! Absolutely brilliant, I'm subscribing!

why would anyone talk down to a man like this? he is an amazing player and he is trying to help other guitar players. did you hear me he is trying to help others. help and you are saying you can't jamwith this method. i think he is the best tacher I've ever witnessed. he is great and my hat's off to you sir for your helping of other musicians

I mostly agree with you, Christian, but he is of course not doing this purely to "help" other musicians. He's mentioned different products he offers (likely not free or at least on his own site which = better chance of your money going his way) at least twice. this is a commercial. Most of the guitar videos on youtube are. Start listening for words like "secret" and phrases like "quickly" or "in just x time" or "this is the one thing you need." He's selling his "Nucleus" program. That is why some people don't feel afraid to criticize the video even though he smiles while he delivers his sales pitch.

Claus, I've been playing Guitar seriously now for 5 years and I taught myself from watching CZcams videos.
However, since I discovered your tutorials, I've decided to only watch your videos going forward. Because your teaching is very simple and easy to understand for me.
Also, once I secure this new job, I will have the extra finances to share a little more, and I will figure out how to donate some your way.
Because you're way too good of a teacher not to be getting paid from everyone that benefits from your instruction.
I'm a teacher as well of an artform and get paid for it, and so should you. So...
Thank you for what you do for aspiring guitarist like me Sir.

A very good, helpful, clear, tutorial. This also endorses the more knowledge of actual scales a player has then the more quickly they can appreciate such advice as this. Major scale and then learn to play it, flat 3rd, flat 5th, flat 5th, etc, then learn pentatonic majors, minors, understand chord structures, it all comes together well even if finger speed is not fast. The wonderful late Ross Hannaford of Australia's Daddy Cool, in for example, Come Back Again, plays little and plays slow, the less he plays, the more you want!
