  • David Paul had been experiencing pain in his hips for quite a while. But when the pain got to be severe, he began a one-year hunt across the country to find the right doctor to help him. His search ended at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. The orthopedic surgeon he selected replaced both of his hips and two weeks post operation, David was back to work.

Had a bi lateral hip replacement ( posterior approach) 31 March 2016 at the age of 60. U.K. National Health at the Golden Jubilee Hospital Glasgow. Flew in from Orkney unaccompanied, on the Thursday op on Friday 31 could have gone home on Sunday, flights and ferry involved, so flew back on Thursday walked on and off Ferry. No pain or pain killers needed. 110% recovery. Brilliant!! The main thing is attitude of mind and physio before and after. My prosthesis are Triton ceramic/titanium

I require 2 full hip replacements had posterior on my right after 3 months pretty strong. I still think it needs some mor work. Definitely now my other bad side needs surgery. My surgeon is still advocate approach to posterior. Less chance of dislocation and infection. Its crazy how some orthapedic surgeons are so divided.

Well just a update on my double hip replacement. Its almost 8 weeks, I had a set back in the hospital but ive come through it after 11 days in the hospital. I started physio 5 weeks ago and I went from 2 crutches to 2 canes and im working on 1 cane and even walk without any assistance (for short distances) I can stand without pain in fact I have no pain in my hips I just get the odd tweek in my thigh and some numbness on them. I still have a ways to go, I ve heard stories of people jumping back up the next day but that's not me. IM thankful for having a great surgeon Dr Vora in Orillia Canada. 6 inch incision on the front I had the anterior procedure and Im so glad Dr Vora took me in and did both at the same time. Dr Vora advised I did them at the same time because they were equally as bad and I didn't have a good hip to rely on while the other healed. I wish everyone good luck and even though im on the road to recovery I suggest you get yours done if the are bad and as painful as mine were. Good Luck

Well here I am june 15th 2020 1 year since my surgery. Im walking fine but there are movements im still careful with. Im cant thank my surgeon Dr. Vora enough this man has changed my life. Im told I'll never play goal in ice hockey again (is it worth trying it ? and see if the hips pop out). Im riding my motorcycle and its been 2 years since my last ride (in pain). All the best to you HIPPIES, I had the anterior surgery and I believe that helped me recover much quicker it only makes since.

I couldn't ride my sports bike anymore last April and now Im on a cane-crutches the pain is off the charts. I saw a surgeon who advised me he will do both at one time anterior procedure. Ive tried hitting the gym but looks like I better try harder and get positive about this because it has taken over my life. Im very nervous this vid helps. Thanks for the share

I need both hips replaced and I’ve waited too long. I can’t walk or barely stand. I’ve been using a walker but now need a wheelchair. I’m terrified the surgeries won’t take and I’ll be in this excruciating pain and unable to walk for the rest of my life. I have no mobility and my muscles have atrophied. Is there any hope for me?

Wow scoured the whole country doing "Research" and talked to only 10 doctors must have been exhausting. Had both my hips replaced and it took about 45 minutes finding a good surgeon. If you ever needs your knees replaced I highly suggest using a computer or smart phone next time.

David, What did you look for in order to decide on the method of surgery?-I'm 68 but I work normally as if I were 30 years old. I discovered that I have to do double hip replacement, besides the fear I'm feeling, I know I'll have to face it (in 8 months), I would like you to give me some tips on how to recover more easily, I know it will not be easy, but tips on who has already gone through it, can help even if it is psychologically.

Hello William, there are many different materials to choose from.I suggest for you to Google: bonesmart.org
Depending on your body your Dr will consult with you what is the best material to use.
I had direct anterior approach bilateral hip total hip replacement and had both of them done at the same time
I researched for approximately 1 year calling all over the U.S.A. to various Hospitals,DR's,and University's to Research for myself to understand everything involved and different methods and different ways and different tools and instruments used on this type of surgery for total Hip Replacement.
My Dr. used a combination of titanium, high strength plastic and ceramic. I consulted with approximately 10 different DR's in person before I made my final decision. I was very lucky and rehab very fast and went back to work in only 2 weeks which is unheard of from what I see and hear. I hope this helps you out in making your final decision.
My Dr. Alexander Gordon did a "Rockin Phanominal Job" and I will be forever gateful to you doc ! (Your Top Notch Above The Rest Brother ! )
      Sincerely,
      AKA *Super Dave*

Motivation is the key to go forwards and accomplish things in life. You have to have strong faith and always positive and a clear and strong mind and any negative you turn into a positive and take your time. Take a deep breath and inhale and hold it for a few seconds and exhale deep and do this 5x in a row it will relax you and calm you.
Have all your questions written down and take your time talking with your Dr.
Your having "Hip Surgery" and this is a major thing for your body and your mind to endure.
Make sure you ask everything and don't let him rush you. Please keep in touch as I am interested in your situation and behind you 100% !

Chef ali, direct anterior approach and the new ceramic state of the art replacement is the way to go !
Yes the pain is very hard to endour, take your meds and keep moving forwards and try to get rest and sleep when you can. There will be a pain treshhold that you will eventually break so hang in there and keep rehabbing hard and very often and stay positive and you will be just fine. No one said it would be easy but in time it will be well worth it ! Keep the faith strong my friend.
