    Quite insightful and debunks some of the perceptions Europe has sold worlwide as a perfect continent. I have many friends abroad who say our country kenya is really blessed and would be more blessed if we successfully dealt with issues around governance, job opportunities and proper town and city planning

      Well said Jessen, Kenya is abeautiful country. You can really see it until you look at it from the outside. whereas Europe is many years ahead of us and has numerous opportunities, there are things that people don't really talk about. These things may sound like non issues on the outside, but experiencing them brings a whole new experience and makes you begin to appreciate life back home.

    Hi Doreen.. Having moved from Kenya to UK and having visited Germany I can say life during winter time is so depressing and hard but motivating in summer time.

    Doreen, I totally understand your feelings. Something to look forward to is the start of spring. After the winter you'll appreciate the precursor of summer even more. For me that's the time that I appreciate having real seasons in the Netherlands.

    Sunshine is very important, because the sun's rays make the skin produce vitamin D which is very important to your health,in winter there is no sunshine so you have to take vitamin d supplements.😅

      I had no idea that we had to take them. It took me by surprise. I used to think taking vitamins is a fancy lifestyle that I could avoid anyway. Until I came here and got the shock of my life 😁

      @@doreennekesaofficial another surprise is that during winter in the northern hemisphere the night is progressively longer as you go towards the north pole that has 24 hours of darkness while conversely the south pole has progressively longer days till the south pole that experiences 24 hours of day, I know because I teach Geography in a secondary school.

      @@doreennekesaofficialdon't forget you are experiencing all of this for the first time. You're just here for 6 months. #Bedroom, i prefer a thicker blanket over a close window. And even already had my balcony door open each time the sun is out. When sunshine is rare you tend to enjoy every moment. But my little doggy (doesn't have a thick coat) still thinks its freezing cold 🤣. About the bill's for heating it's advised to set the heating on 10°C or 15°C during night time. And if you just want to talk or rant about anything i'm also following you on insta. 😘😍🤣

    During cold weather,you can easily catch diseases like colds, pneumonia and wind-borne diseases,so you have to be warm all the time.😅

    Glad to hear about your experiences and the new life journey as it unfolds. The one trick i lived by was to completely switch the mindset to adjust to the changes that come with the seasons, without heavily comparing the circumstances to our beautiful warm motherland Kenya.....and to make the most out of indoor activities like family board games with the kids; spelling games, hide and seek, etc, Heavily invest in indoor activities too..´speeletjes' help . The good news is that Spring is about to make a Grand entrance, you will loooove the switch in weather conditions🤩! By the time its summer, please keep in mind that it gets extremely hotter than we were used to back in Kenya 😅 then we will cry about how scorching hot it is😅., and less dark. im one of those notorious ones who complain about the heat endlessly😂!, Embrace this switch ..kids generally have a magical way of finding that mind switch faster than we adults sometimes do😍.... veel succes! Oh how sweet Valarie❤❤. I can’t stress enough how damn right you are. My first three weeks were the worst. I was all about comparing everything and it felt so awful 😞 for sure. Then I realized that embracing is the only way out. And just like that, things started to look different and feel different. Now I am used to enjoying every moment as it comes. Of course I try not to forget sharing the experience so other people can learn from it.
      Now that you have mentioned the coming seasons, I am so much looking forward to them. You mean summer is hotter than Kenya 🇰🇪? 😅 Thank you for this tip! It will guide me on how to shop for summer attire. Otherwise I would be a mess walking around in a sweatpant and long sleeve Tshirt. Inabidi nimejifunzq kuvaa Kama beachgal😂😂. Of course I will also complain about the scorching sun. Wait for that video😊

  • @abacaxiveer

    Mhh yes. Winter depression is a real thing! Did you consider getting a 'kerstboom', christmas tree? A small one is 15 euro, and you can put some lights in it, of course. It makes your home a bit more bright and nice and 'gezellig', also, it smells nice!
    Good thing that you took vitamine D. Many people combine it with zinc and magnesium (maybe citrate rather than oxide) and vitamin K, the first two make vitamin D work better, the vitamin K makes it less likely that you suffer harm from overdosing (which is not easy to do but is a risk at high amounts).

    • @doreennekesaofficial
      @doreennekesaofficial  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes! We got the Christmas tree. Although we didn't get the magical lights for it. Just the regular lights. Which I agree made a huge difference in making the house homely, especially on early mornings and late nights.
      Thanks so much for the tip about adding magnesium and zinc. We'll consider that. I mean, we are learning everyday.
