      @Renee Gilmore Hello, you need to buy the foam and wrap around the pipe until you are right to the surrounding floor. Then silicone any little gap between the foam and the floor. This will keep the self leveling compound from going down into the hole that is around the pipe.

    I appreciate the video and find it very helpful. This my first diy shower install and I really don’t want to crawl under the home to install the shower drain assembly. I just ordered the proflo model PF140NC.

      No I don't, but the tailpipe is like what is common on a regular sink drain.

    How did you make the connection to the pipe? Did you have to cement the PVC or did the drain fitting slip onto it without needing a seal?

      The ABS drain pipe slips into the drain pipe assembly with a friction fit and then a nut is tightened down around the black gasket. There are also glue in type drain assemblies but you have to have access from below.

    I work with Corian in Brazil. I saw that you fill the entire thermoformed base from below to level everything. What did you use for this filling?

      We use 3" thick ridgid foam. There is another shower video that shows it. There is also a video showing how to cut it off with a foam cutter. Look for the solid surface shower playlist.

    what did you put around the drain pipe, edges to make self leveling liquid not leak? Appreciate the help in advance. I am planning to do the same.

      Hello. It is Oatay 38711 Foam Closet Flange Spacer - amzn.to/3nnx8kt . We wrap it around the drain pipe and secure with masking tape. After the concrete is cure, just remove. You can reuse it as well.

    Can you produce a video on installing a Bootz porcelin over steel shower pan? What make of pan is that? Did you have to set that pan in mortar or a sand mix?

    Great tutorial. I want to replace my bath tub with a shower base. I've already removed the tub and now there's just a cement base. Do i still have to put another layer of fresh cement under the new shower base? Or can it just sit ontop of the existing previous cement floor where the bath tub was on before? Thanks

      Thank you. That is self leveling compound to make to area perfectly flat.

    If I have a level (wooden) subfloor, do I need the leveling compound or thinset?

      No, it just needs to be level. You can use some silicone to hold it in place but the weight and it being locked into place with the walls is really all you need. FYI, make sure the wood floor does not squeak and screw it down really well.

      Yea, sorry about that, I didn't realize it was loud like that but the new videos have had the volume reduced on the intro. I guess I'm better at making showers than I am at making videos.

      I guess you could but typically there is always a hole because rough in plumbing is done first.

    The pan is just sitting there? No screw and anything to make it stable? Is the drain pipe coming through the drain?

      It is just sitting there. You can silicone it down but it's not necessary. The panels will hold everything in place. It's nice to be able to make micro adjustments when fitting the panels and the drain assembly. we have never had an issue with it not actually being glued to the floor.
      Yes, the drain pipe is coming up into the brass drain assembly. The final connection will be made by the plumber with the gasket and brass ring.

      I use a foam flange wrap and just keep wrapping it around until I get wider than my drain assembly. It can be used over and over again.

      When you place a level on the floor the bubble should be dead center. If it's flat but out of level by 1/8", it changes the way the shower pan will drain.
      This is a critical step in the process to get correct.

      That is correct, once the self leveling compound is used, just set in place. Use a little silicone if you feel more comfortable but otherwise the panels will hold everything in place.

      The cardboard is a slip ring so the brass nut does not grab the rubber washer.

      If water get to the cardboard there is a leak. The cardboard should stay dry forever.

      It starts with the studs and drywall. We install a lot of showers where they aren't plumb. Customers really don't seem to notice. The glass door make up for the difference.
      You can shim the panels a little expensive to make them flat. Flat is important especially on the sides where you will see the edge. It's nice to have that straight.

      That is correct. The plan will expand and contract and cannot be screwed to the wall. You can put silicone under the pan if you like but we just let them free float.

      The pieces are marked as they come off the CNC so you can assemble the pieces faster. The right and left piece may look the same but they could be different by only 1/8"

      Regular Plumbers Putty has been known to stain some surfaces. There is a Stain-free Plumbers Putty for use with surfaces such as Corian.

      We have not had issues but have since switched to silicone.
