I am a retired middle-school teacher who taught in a small Indiana town where lunches were prepared by incredible farm moms. Best lunches ever. Then, like you said, the government stuck its nose where it didn't belong and anything homemade became illegal. It was tough going for several years. And a I mean tough ... I could tell you some stories of horrible food served to children ...Glad to hear your garden is doing well. Love seeing you hand-loomed potholders. During the "lockdown" I wove over 200! It was a blast! Bless you for all you do for sooooo many people.God Bless America!
I remember when I was in school, we had homemade lunches. Now kids get processed food. Thatâs sad
Apple sauce cobbler brought a tear to my eyes! Thought Mama was the only person to make it. She put big fluffy dumplings in it because she knew that was my favorite part! Please keep sharing these recipes! Precious memories!
@maryhammond: How they linger! Bless youâ€ïž
Sh makes and does a lot of things that remind me of what I grew up with. I love watching her and Mr.Brown they are so precious and the love they still have for each other to this day is so nice to watch. I wish we could all go back to living this way. I grew up on a huge farm and we had canned goods, fresh veggies from the garden, fresh chicken eggs, wood stove, a water pump from the spring in our front yard, and many more things I haven't seen in many years. It's such a shame we've lost so much of the simpler way of living.
Looks great! I have never had applesauce cobbler. I definitely will give that a try.
Someone should open a school cafeteria restaurant. We had the best food when I was a kid. Just like the recipes you talk about. The ladies there were excellent cooks and our cafeteria was so clean every day.
We had the meat, two vegetables, roll, and a desert. It was always delicious and planned with the food groups involved. No frozen pizza with corn was served. Gone are the good old days.
.
I'm a retired teacher who loved the cobblers, rolls, cakes & goodies that our lunchroom ladies spoiled us with. As a kid I learned to eat quite a variety of good food when eating in the school cafeteria. We would be hungry and willing to try things that friends liked. Peer pressure used positively. By the time I retired, lunches weren't the same. No salt, no fat, no flavor. Kids and teachers were sneaking in salt and pepper shakers. We just acted like we didn't see them.
I grew up in southern Oklahoma...our cafeteria was wonderful. Just like home cooking. I wish I had one of those big peanut butter cookies right nowđ
When I went to school in the sixths our lunches were not eatable , it was awful . Took my lunch every day.
I know this sounds silly but my grandmother, mom and myself have used three layers for a cobbler, particularly peach. A bottom, middle and a top. The middleâŠmy absolute favorite. P.S. my grandmother was also from Arkansas!
I love it when you share old memories! It makes me think of my grandma ânannyâ and how she would make pear preserves every year. She knew I loved the syrup better than the fruit and she would always make them âextra soupyâ just for me. What a joy it was to stand beside her with my hand in her apron pocket looking for a piece of bazooka bubble gum. She didnt have any teeth but she would suck on that bubble gum until it got soft enough for her to gum all the flavor from it.
Love it!
I would be so happy if you had her pear preserves to share.đ
Ms Lori, a jar of homemade lard wound be a most welcome gift for family and friends. I know I'd love it! â€
Happy Independence Day! đșđž đșđž Thank you Ms Lori, and always good to see Mr. Brown too!
Growing up, my Mom and Dad made the old fashioned custard ice cream and us kids would take turns cranking the ice cream maker until our little arms could not crank any more, then Dad would take over and finish it off. I inherited that old ice cream maker and now make it with my grandkids. My kids enjoyed making it too but they did it with Grandma and Grandpa. It was something fun for them on the weekends, to go to the farm and help grandma and Grandpa with chores and then make ice cream.
Miss Lori, your hair is looking so cute, I really think it is very becoming. As usual you are right, there is nothing that says the 4th of July more than homemade ice cream and apple pie or cobbler.
My 6 brothers and sisters, and cousins, had the best of times taking turns cranking the old ice cream maker. Homemade angel food cake and ice cream for every birthday and holiday. In later years, parents got an electric machine. Good times.
Never heard of applesauce cobbler. Looks delicious! We used to make homemade ice cream at my great aunt and uncles. All of us nieces, nephews, and grandkids would take turns cranking it! Lot of good times back then and it so so good!
What a great recipe, Lori. Growing up with my grandparents on a farm and cattle ranch, we made lots of custard ice cream in the summertime. We would get a cantaloupe from the garden, grandpa would cut it open and scoop out flesh with hands and fill the center with the ice cream. Food memories are gold for the soul. I'm from Texas, but born in Arkansas. I have a special place in heart for that place.
Ms Lori you are surely bringing back some memories for me. My mama use to make ice cream kinda like that but she didnât use whipping cream either she just put regular milk in hers and it was the best ice cream
Ms. Lori, when I was a kid me and my cousins were cranking homemade ice cream one day, and it was taking forever! My dad, upon checking the ice cream for the third time time, still was not done, saw my cousin get ahold of that crank and just go like crazy, and he noticed that she was left handed, and had been cranking backwards every time she took the crank. Once we got the "right" (handed) people on the job, we finally got to eat the ice cream! Funny!
Lol
I made lemon custard ice cream for the 4th.
So good!
I just love your beautifully cozy country kitchen. It seems thereâs a lot of love in your home-thatâs what always makes the difference in our cooking! I am making your Texas sheet cake for four today. Praying you are experiencing all of Godâs blessings today, and that you and Mr. Brown are enjoying the day together. â€đđœ
Trying raw milk ice cream tomorrow with peach cobbler
The cobbler looks delish!
Yâall will have some good home pork!!
We had an oopsie and got 9 babies in the pig pen - we thought we was getting out of business ! đ someone visited where he should not have!!
Oh well they will be so good!
My uncle operated the frozen food locker and processed meats. His sausage was the BEST in the world!
My goodness,I have never heard of applesauce cobbler. But,why not! Looks and sounds delicious. I have such fond memories of turning the handle of the ice cream maker. We all took turns. I believe it made the ice cream taste better and we could say we helped make it. It took some time and we all sat around and visited as each cranked for a while. Great fellowship time.
Thank you for this! I get so much applesauce in my community grocery boxes. Now I can make something sweet! I'll have to cut the recipe, because I live alone. Hey to you, Miss Lori and Mr. Brown!
Most of Miss Loriâs recipes are easy to cut down, Iâm make a half recipe cobbler today and looking forward to leftovers đ! Happy 4th đșđž.
@@terryt.1643 Thank you! Happy 4th to you as well.
Happy Independence Day to you Miss Lori and Mr Brown. That cobbler and ice cream look mighty tasty. Iâm sure everything you fix will be scrumptious. Iâm working 11 hours today so I wonât be celebrating much. This is definitely a day to recognize and appreciate. Much love. â€
Happy 4th of July to You all from Alberta Canada! It's been awhile since we made old fashioned custard ice cream. It's the best< I agree. the applesauce cobbler looks delicious as well!
God Bless America and God Bless the Browns! Love you muches!
I have such fond memories of taking turns at my grandparents turning the crank on those old freezers. There's nothing better than homemade custard ice cream.
Cobbler and ice cream are a perfect combo. I made blackberry cobbler for a potluck this weekend. The hosts had homemade ice cream.
We need rain for our gardens in NW Missouri. It keeps going just north of us.
Thank you Ms Lori for the applesauce cobbler and custard ice cream! Looks delicious, Happy 4th to you and Mr Brown. Love your videos.â€
Oh yummmm!!!! Happy 4th to the Brown family!!!
I'm a retired school teacher & librarian & we had the best cooks in our community working in our cafeteria so we enjoyed it very much, especially vegetables soup day, usually on Fridays & hotdog đ day was so good, we even had french fries đđđwe were spoiled đ
Iâve never heard of an Applesauce cobbler but it sure looks good. When you were making the boiled custard, it made me think of my mother who made it every Christmas and Easter along with a fresh coconut cake. I too love the crust on cobblers and pies. Thank you for sharing. đđâ„ïž
I'm appalled at my own profession for what they have done to school lunches. Thank heavens for good cooks like you who do the very best they can within some pretty insane guidelines. And are these kids healthier than we were when you guys got to cook really good food? Nope cardboard never satisfies.
My sweet MIL made stacked apple pies with applesauce. So good.
Happy 4thđ That cobbler and homemade ice cream looks yummy!!
I love watching Mr. Brown taste test!!! Thank you Miss Lori for sharing 2 great recipes with us!!! Happy 4th of July!!! God Bless America!!!!!
I love when your clock chimes. Reminds me of mom & dads home. My older son is inheriting their grandfather clock because when he was little mom said âTommy donât touch the weights!â
Of course he did & the prints will never come off. Family history.
Lol
We all took turns turning the crank on our ice cream maker when I was a kid. My dad would add ice and rock salt and would do most of the cranking on that old machine. Lol. My mom always made the custard in the morning. I have such fond memories of making that delicious treat! I often make cobblers, but I've never made one with applesauce. I'm definitely going to try your recipe. We always enjoy everything I make from your recipes! â€â€â€
Happy 4th of July ! God bless all ya all. Much Love to you both Miss Lori. đâ€đ
Happy to see another great video. Happy 4th to you guys. My grandson is here for the month and I'm going to be making your no peek pork chops and rice for him đ. I'm sure he's going to love it. Be safe you guys sending much loves and many hugs to you both

Thanks again Miss Lori for these amazing sweet recipes! Mr. Brown is probably thanking our sweet Lord that you're able to stay home to fix his goodies. I'm glad you two were able to get to the river. God bless you and God bless America!!!
Happy 4th of July Lori and Dan. That ice cream looks sinfully delicious!
My mom's b'day was July 4. She would have been 104. I used to make her a flag cake, bananas, strawberries and blueberries.
Y'all have a great July 4th. đșđžđșđžđđ
Thank you, Miss Lori for the cobbler recipe. I am going to try it. Looks deliciousđ
I love red sink skirt....looks great...and red checkered stove cloth...happy fourth....the đbest think in your kitchen ,,IS YOU MRS LORI....đđđ
We had fresh frozen custard yesterday too!
Great minds think alike!
Beautiful memories of making ice cream as a child with my granny & papa†I miss them so much! I havenât had that in 30 plus years! Guess Iâll be making some with my grandkids at the end of Julyâ€
I really enjoy your stories of your youth and as a school cook. We also loved when our cafeteria staff made cookies, cakes, soups and other goodies. Now we can only eat what is served to the students. Some of our wealthier schools picketed to allow the cafeteria staff to make fresh coffee cake, but most schools had to eat the individually made cakes (not so good). Happy Fourth of July to you!
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY MR. & MRS. BROWN đșđž
So grateful for your work Ms. Loriâ€I made your custard pie the other night.not a single leftover crumb!!
Happy 4th to you and yours!
Always enjoy you sweet lady!
Our potatoes here in Ky are doing good as well! đ„°

Mrs.Lori I just love you and Mr. Brown and would love to spend some time with y'all. These recipes look and sound delicious I'm going to make this cobbler for sure I don't have an ice cream maker but the custard will make a wonderful banana pudding. Thank you for sharing with us.

Yes, we use to go to pick bushel baskets full of peaches. ( I still have one of grandma's baskets) and when we were young, we would get to turn the crank. Great memories.
Love you stories.
God bless yâall!! That cobbler looks so good!!AND then homemade frozen custard!! Thatâs the BEST!! Hope you have a great 4th!!

Peaches would be absolutely perfect with this recipe đ God bless yall đ
Reminds me of childhood, men would go down to creek to break up ice to put around the churn. When custard 36:50 getting set up we took turns cranking the handle or sitting on the bucket until done. Best memory ever!
Your recipes sound wonderful! Brings back memories of my Dad and uncles hand cranking custard ice cream! Precious memories! Blessings!
YUMMY Ms. Lori good to see Mr. Brown also!!! HAPPY 4th JULY MET FOR ALL WHO SERVED OUR COUNTRY!!!
Hi Miss Lori, would you consider recording a video when you render the lard from your hog please?
As always a wonderful recipe the both of you have a wonderful Fourth of July and enjoy eating as much of that apple sauce, cobbler and homemade ice cream as you can just stay in to eat and I know youâll enjoy it lol. đ â€
I was thinking a cobbler would be nice today! Thanks for the recipe, hope you and your family have a Safe and Happy 4th! Ice cream looks great! đ„°đâ€ïžđđ. My garden is really late because itâs been cooler than usual and now itâs been heating up. I planted peas, zucchini, sweet peppers and tomatoes today Iâll plant some spinach in the shade, that usually works well. I harvested some potatoes for my 4th supper.
Yummy. Today my daddy would have 122. He loved his cobblers. Thanks for recipe. God bless you Mrs Lori and Mr Brown.
Our tomatoes are suffering from too much rain in Kentucky đą.
I just wanted to tell you that I just watched the grandpas hands video and I wonder if your own children know how blessed they are to have the two of you? I am going to make your brownies today! I and so grateful that you mentioned Becky and the loss of her husband.prayers for her and her family. What caused his death,do you know? Feeling blessed to have you in my life!
Not sure, I think he had been sick
Iâve never had applesauce cobbler!! But will make one this coming weekend when all the children and grandchildren will be here to eat it. Miss seeing Mr. Brown, I enjoy his Bible Study time. He is going to have a bumper crop of potatoes, I believe he has been reciting some bible verses in his garden!! Wishing you, Mr Brown, and your children and grandchildren a Happy 4th of July and May God continue to Bless the Brown Family.
I cannot wait to make both. You always have the best recipes.
I was gifted an ice cream maker today. A 4 quart. I used all my cream to make butter so I mixed up a batch of gelato. Tomorrow- on the 4th of July Iâll make my first ever homemade gelato for my grands. They wonât know the differenceâŠ. Itâll be super yummy in the sugar cones I got for them. I had 8 cups of raw milk. Iâm sure itâll be delicious. Iâll get some cream and make a custard ice cream next time.
Thank you Miss Lori, this is perfect timing!
Oh I would LOVE that cobbler! I dont like big chunks of fruit in a cobbler. Gotta make this one! đ
Happy 4th of july y'all. Hope your having a wonderful time †đ
Oh my goodness! That looks sooo yummy!!
All I can say is YUM!! Happy Independence Day, Miss Lori & Mr. Brown
My mother always used her fingers when she made pie crusts.
Happy 4th miss Lori and Mr. Brown so glad we're living in a free country God bless and keep you both
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the recipes especially the custard ice cream! My mom used to make the best custard ice cream and this one is pretty much the same as she used to make. I just purchased a Cuisinart ice cream maker and am going to use your custard recipe. The applesauce cobbler also sounds delicious. Thank you again for the recipes and Happy 4th!!
Sounds great!
Nothing like our childhood huh Miss Lori. It was the best. I have the exact same memories.
Oh yes
You asked about our gardens. Well, my bush green beans were eaten totally by the deer. The deer and squirrels have all but eaten most of my tomatoes. This year has been awful for the garden. Seems like this year the critters have multiplied. The recipes are ones that I will be making.
Thank you
Mrs Lori,I just love your channel and the look on mr. Browns face when you make a special something is priceless. Thank you for teaching me new things and I'm 64 lol but you do.stay safe.Happy4th. To y'all
My granddaughter told me she didn't like the purple stuff I cooked. My husband likes blackberry cobbler with just juice no berries because of seeds .
Iâm so glad you make a crust like you would for a pie, thatâs how my Mom always made cobblers, and my favorite part would be the gooey wet bottom crust. I was sort of shocked to see a video that said cobblers were topped with biscuit dough, even if thatâs the
traditional way, itâs not how my family made them, so I wouldnât make them any other way.
You talking about your green beans reminded me of my precious father in law, he always had a nice garden, one day he drug out
his 10â ladder, took his 95 year old self up on that ladder to tie up his pole beans, the ladder collapsed and the ladder won,
father in law was on the bottom, suffered a broken hip. He recovered well, lived a couple of years longer.
My kind of cooking. Your voice is so soothing with good recipes like I grew up on. Happy 4th!!!
This truly looks delicious. What is your favorite store-bought Apple Butter & Applesauce? Thumbs up to your videos always. I truly wish you and your family a blessed safe Happy Fourth Of July. Stay well & safe America.
heck yeah, I sliced 907 lbs of deli meat over the past three days!! Hopefully people are enjoying themselves out there! Making whatever, OTB Turk, or Virginia ham. Roast beef, medium rare! It's a zoo!
Good grief!
@@WhippoorwillHoller I do that because that's what they expect AND squirrel saving a nut, it helps them. Helping them helps me. When it's 20 below, as long as I can get there. I have a job. Hot in Arkansas, try cold in MN!
My Mama made the best Applesauce Cobbler or BlackBerry Cobbler you ever tasted! I used to make all kinds of Cobblers and Homemade Ice Cream! Homemade Vanilla Custard Ice Cream can't be beat! Its a wholesome great creamy taste like none other! My Ice Cream Maker was on my back porch and somebody took it while we was gone! We live in the woods in the mountains here in Ga and we don't have close neighbors in this holler. People are always coming up the mountain here thinking its a backroad. They ignore all the signs we have up like they Can't read or something... We had quite a few things that got stolen and then my husband put up a gate and a big sign that said, " WARNING!! This Ain't a Road, Its my Driveway! Stop Now and Get Right With the Lord Before You Come Up the Driveway Because, You are Going to Meet Him At the Top!" We Got tired of Tresspassers looking for a place to Drink n Do Drugs, Steal from Us, and All hours of the night lurking around! After that, We only had a few people come on up and they got met with my husband, Son and Me at times! Word got around to all the Hoodlums and that all stopped real quick! Paw didn't play no Games! Its been about 10 yrs ago and we bought an electric ice cream maker but it finally quit working! My Grandkids wore it out lol...After my husband died, I just didn't buy another but, I'm gonna get me one! Thank you Miss Lori and Mr Brown for the memories! Yes, I still make these cobblers! They're Delicious! Happy Independence Day to you Both! Much Love and Prayers. God Bless. đđâ€â€đșđžđșđž
Yum, custard ice cream. Gonna have to try this too.
We bought a hand crank/electric ice cream maker for our kids and grands to enjoy! So many wonderful memories if Dad making ice cream in dog days if summer un Virginia! We all took turns cranking!
I guess that ice cream isnât made with junket anymore, that is the homemade that we always made! Now that was truly homemade ice cream!
God bless America and Happy 4th to y'all!
Oh my goodness! Looks so good! Have never thought of an applesauce cobbler. My favorite part of a cobbler is the thickened juice and crust. Don't need the fruit for me. Soooo glad to see y'all are ok. The weather has been so bad lately and Every time Arkansas. was mentioned I thought of y'all. God bless you both! đȘ đđșđž
My father preferred applesauce pie. Mother nevermade a regular apple pie.
Slow hand cranked ice cream churned by Dad was the best!
Both recipes look so delicious!!! đ I will definitely be trying this soon. đâ€ïžđ
I can't make a pie crust to save my life lol. My mom and grandmothers could and my daughters can though. It's my favorite part! I keep trying so maybe someday it will come out.
I had plants come up volunteer of potatoes in my raised beds. I left them go. And some are blooming. I have 2 full beds of them. What ever I get will be a gift. Maybe I can get a crop of green beans when they are done.
Hi Miss Lori
I love your videos !
My garden started off real good and then it got to be 108 degrees and windy so I lost quite a bit. Shade cloth has helped a lot. Happy 4th . Stay safe.
So frustrating
