Im 44 with thinning hair on top. I've been doing 5 on top and 1.5 on sides. Last week I just did a one all over and I loved it with very heavy stubble . Then I took the heavy stubble down to a zero and I looked too washed out. Just like you explained. You do need a weeks or 2 of stubble to pull it off. Totally agree. Not tried the zero yet! Just getting used to the 1 . Thanks man

While I was balding I just buzzed down to a three or four and gradually went lower so there wasn't a big drastic difference. Once I went for the zero guard I thought "why didn't I just go for this from day one?"

As a lady with no stubble who is not concerned about the perception of others, what really stuck out to me was that it'll feel less fuzzy and show the hairline less frequently. I'm really into not doing my hair more freq than I have to so I appreciate you including those aspects. It's kind of an obvious thing, that cutting it shorter would do that, but hearing it from you helps counter the negatives of a zero guard that I've heard from others.

From personal experience, definitely need stubble to bring people's eyesight down so they look you in the eyes and not stare at your bald head first ...
The only advantage of my hair being very short is that it's easy to apply foam minoxidil. But if I had a full head of hair, I wouldn't need to use minoxidil.

But it looks like I have a donut on my head with the faded side and balding spot in back. Thinking of going with zero guard buzz cut. And get the look going young, that way 20 years from now I look the exact same and look like I aged better lol.

I think the best thing about 0 guard for me would be being able to see if what my dermatologist prescribed me which was a topical solution (Clobetasol) and Nizoral shampoo for my hair loss works. Right now I can't tell if it working or not. I have possible high tsh getting tested again to make sure. So yea I've gone zero guard before during quarantine and it looked okay i like it compared to 1

I’ve never grown my facial hair out bra or I can’t get past the “awkward” stage. If I could grow a beard if definitely rock a bald head. I don’t know what to do 🤦♂️
I keep myself clean shaven with my zero guard buzz cut and can't stand itchiness of stubble or facial hair period lol. All pros only con, it's a pain in the ass to clean the back head lol. IMO, that "edge" your looking for works for some men, not all culturally speaking.
Is it harder to cut with number one if you have a bit longer hair? My old one I use zero bacause it is much moore easy to cut without any guard. The tip about the beard I think is a good one, I do not have that tick beard, but when it is short short it is ok I think. I do have your color of skin and eye browns so I like your tips. Havent tought about it but notised that it looks nice when it is a balance to it, thanks.

Nick Shell I understand but they do work. I have been on Rogaine for 2months, propecia for 2 weeks and I noticed so far it is definitely thicker. But I have seen amazing results for people on them for 1 year. Viviscal is a vitamin that works for thicker hair. I was on viviscal before the drugs and it worked good for keeping what you have and better coverage
When I get to a 1 or 2 I actually notice the receding or less density in the hair. That's y you like the zero or st least that's why I like zero in my case. I'm 39 and I just started taking propecia to see if it will make it look better but I still think I prefer shaving my head.
