  • A lot of TV versions inexplicably contain deleted scenes added into the films. "Modified for time" they say. Many of these rare scenes are still unavailable anywhere else, including the DVDs of the films.

When I was in the submarine service, we were on Westpac and we had two movies onboard (we used to get reels of movies just as they were being released in theaters). On our 30 day transit from Japan back to San Diego, we continuously ran the move on two separate projectors in the crews mess, and I easily saw this one 30 times. I can literally recite the entire movie from start to finish, and it remains one of my favorite comedies of all time.

In the modern game, Sergio Garcia is a master at saving the angle (or delaying the release), thereby creating great LAG and power in the downswing.

I operated the same machine which we used to cut fairways. The blades were set to a correct depth so the clippings did not interfere with the game. The machine was a beast. They included that scene in some showings. If Harold Ramis (director) had a chance, it would have been great, with all the cast members there, to shoot 5 films and release them on consecutive holiday seasons. The film was magic, it was Ramis' first directorial effort, and a series of films would have been great. Caddyshack II sucked because the cast was changed.

Apparently Ted Knight hated filming this movie as there was so much drug use and hookups going on that the cast was routinely late for scenes and had to be fed their lines. Ted was on time and knew his part. Rodney Dangerfield had never acted before and everyone thought that because he had done so much standup, that he'd be a natural. He was very uncomfortable in the role, but had taken the anxiety of being in front of a cast and crew and delivered a classic role, albeit it being Rodney playing Rodney. Bill Murray and Chevy Chase hated one another and yet to their credit, the scene where Chevy walks into Carl's shack was ad libbed. As soon as it was over, they each went there separate ways.

The tension between the caddies & grounds crew was funny looking back (we were the "fungus of the fairways"). While we didn't have someone as crazy as Bill Murray's character, there were certainly some interesting guys working there. An entire movie of his antics would have been equally as funny as this classic.
Those F-10s were beasts, steering wheels in the rear, tricky to get the hang of making precise corners on the fairways without cutting into the higher grass too much.

Both Murray brothers caddied as kids/young adults, so this was not a strange venue for a film for them.
Here is Bill Murray's dialogue. Credit the closed caption, and my fellow commenters.
What an incredible Cinderella story. This unknown, comes out of nowhere, to
    lead the pack at Augusta.
He is on his final hole. He is about 455 yards away. He's going to hit about a 2 iron,
I think. Boy, he got all of that! The crowd is standing on its feet here at Augusta. The normally reserved Augusta crowd ... going wild.
For this young Cinderella who's come out of nowhere, he's got about 350 yards up,
he's going to hit a 5 iron expect, don't ya think? He's gotta beautiful backswing.... That's, Oh! He got all of that one! He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is just on its feet here.
He's a Cinderella boy - tears in his eyes I guess, as he lines up this last shot. He's got
about 195 yards left. He's gonna ... looks like he's got about an eight iron. This crowd is gone deathly silent. Cinderella story - out of nowhere a former greens-keeper now about to become the Masters Champion.
It looks like a miracul ... IT'S IN THE HOLE!!! It's the hole!
Certainly your eminency. Certainly your magnificence.

But also Bill Murray was able to do an outstanding job with his comedy throughout this movie by not being the main person. Every time he appeared you knew something wild was going to happen and it did every single time. As with good music such as blues the vocals live or die by the timing. And for popping in for short scenes that don't have to have a lot of background Bill Murray was a genius at his characters. The moment you see his face you are ready for whatever Direction he was going to take you because you knew you would laugh your butt off.
