They were grown men and black but they accepted him and let him play with them as an eigth grader. I think he probably picked up a lot of it from them.

Invited the kid to visit in the off-season and shoot around on his private court. Bird was relentless on the court, but he wasn't mean-spirited about it. Getting inside people's heads was just part of the game.
