  • I talk about the Short Power of Wing Chun and how the 135 degree angle is used in most of the Wing Chun arm formations to stop and divert incoming force from an opponent's attacks.

      my sifu didnt explain that to me so i had to find that from vids of other lineages.. so it goes to show that learning a few different lineages of WingChun VingTsun is a good idea..
      if i would have known this 30 years ago it would have helped my development.

    I've done WC for eleven years. I don't usually like martial arts channels, too many braggarts and keyboard bad-asses, but, I train with guys like you. Thoughtful, analytical and not trying to be some kind of hero. Thanks for your videos man. I like 'em a lot. It seems like your only goal here is sharing tools for self-improvement. Which is the only reason to train. Best regards from Tasmania. My favourite sentence in this video was the one about why you prefer teaching women and the egos of men.

    Sifu, I'm a novice practitioner of Wing Chun from the Yuen Kay San and Sum Nung lineage.
    Despite my limited experience, my Sifu has taught me how to recognise a number of important facets of the art that actually make it a practical and robust self defence practice.
    I'm very impressed with your brief demonstration and explanation here. Your powering is evident in the strikes you demonstrate at the beginning, and your grasp on angles and defensive hands is very good.
    May I ask how you learned about powering and angles in Wing Chun?

    I use dead weight behind some of my attacks but I change it up to doing rapid explosive strikes also.
    Most of my striking utilising Hsing Yi foot work.
    I also use American Kenpo hand principles at times.
    I find so many of our moves really do translate across styles.
    I see similar moves in many different styles of course they have there major differences but also lots in common.
    Great explanation once again.

    Greeting teacher,
    I wanted to ask.
    You made two videos on the names and basic movements of the wing chun hands.
    Is it possible to do a third video using your dummy while explaining those same principles ?
    Thank you for your time and knowledge.
    I think the videos are ( wing chun 12 tools and wing chun tools explained part 2.

    Hi slightly different but I strike a tree at home in Australia my style being multiple styles put together.
    Bajiquan, Baguazhang Hsing Yi American Kenpo and Karate.
    I don’t use dit da jow lineament.
    My hands feel more flexible as I’m doing knife hands, tiger claws forearm strike striking with every part of the body I do this every second day.
    My hands especially my palms have actually gained muscle it’s incredible should I move to stone and steel eventually, will I need bone mending lineament ?
    Thanks again 👍💪

    Thank you.
    I kindly request you to teach through some free sparing to show the the world how technique realy works.
    Thank you.

      TRUTH,, yeah it bothers me quite a lot that almost every Chinese Kung fu master cant show their art in the context of free sparring without pre-arranged movements or with their sparring partner being passive and not trying to fight back.. Kenpo is guilty of showing their techniques and never fighting..Krav maga is the same just a series of moves against a partner that stands still. so are most other arts. Wing Chun is no different for the most part. There are Wing Chun Sifus like the Mindful wing chun Nima King guy who just shows tricks and no free sparring .. or that Master TU Tengyao with his fancy stunt Wing chun short vids.. some of the techniques look fast and good but most are just eye candy. One reason that you dont see much of the Wing Chun Gor Sao sparring is for liability.. expensive insurance needs to be paid for to be able to do that as well as a liability disclaimer signed. Hehe.. As a kung fu teacher of about 6 to 8 students at my home it makes no sense to have to carry expensive insurance.. so i can see why most Chinese martial arts teach forms like Tai Chi and do a little push hands but no real sparrintg.. I do some pretty heavy fast Gor Sao or Wing Chun fighting though with some of my students only to find that sometimes a simple technique can injure them for many months basically losing that student and possibly being sued in the meantime. i had to pay for a students physical therapy for a number of months because i did a gum Sao to her knee and it popped her hip out of place.. i am LUCKY that she didnt sue me.. So that is one of the major problems.. almost all other Wing Chun or ving tsun vids just highlight techniques but its not free form fighting.. which i think should be shown. When i get a student willing and trained to the level of showing that kind of Wing chun fighting i will be proud to post it on here.

      the info that i post in my vids is for Wing Chun peeps that already know what works for them and to give them some details that they may not know to make their Wing Chun better.. for i do want to see all Wing Chun practitioners get better. all the stuff i talk about i have tested out at full speed against non willing sparring partners and it works for me. I also dont feel i need to prove anything ive been doing kung fu for over 30 years. and i know what i can do with it.

    Thank you Sir, for your kind and reasonable demonstrations - as a beginner, I noticed you mounted the 2 upper wooden dummy arms parallel to each other - most wooden dummies have one arm placed higher than the other. Why is that so ? I´d appreciate your ideas.

    • @ShennThomas93
      @ShennThomas93  Před rokem

      Not many people notice the difference..yes I personally made my wooden dummy from plans that I also made from a REAL Hong Kong wooden dummy from my Sifu Eddie Chong's dummy back in 1990 .. the other mook jongs with a high arm are fake knockoffs made by companies that do not have the official plans of the hole and arm details. many wing chun Sifus do not know the difference. i dont think it makes too much difference in the training from lineage to lineage though.

    • @thetruthproject9642
      @thetruthproject9642 Před rokem

      @@ShennThomas93 interesting - with a lower left dummy arm, it would be like always training with a "right handed" opponent - I like the horizontally equal leveling. Thanks for your understandable explanations, Sir
