In life there are a lot of sad endings but stories can keep our hopes up by showing us what a happy ending looks like .The best thing about a made up story is that it can create some joy and wise need happy stories when we lose hope. I know that Peter’s fate can change at the stroke of a pen.People have had long sentences shortened ,returned to society and gave much good to society after they were free again.
It is only HOPE and a vision of better days that enables us to work to make our world better.

Well, according to the story, Edward said he was sentenced for a full 15 years, and I doubt war criminals could get parole. Peter wouldn’t see the rest of the gang for at least the next 15 years, if at all.

Once again, Mr. Tanzig, Truely marvelous work.
Its not at all suprising the whermacht were pushed to using a hospital as a battleground.
While Adams actions were more blatant, I can only imagine when his turn will be, if ever.
As for the trial, good work capturing its atmosphere.
Prosecution badgering is such a dirty tactic, yet sadly, they read through anger like a book.
In war, patience can wear thin very quickly, and with all that happened prior to his actions, its little suprise something finally snapped in him.
Few of us can really hate him for it, but in any senario: killing non-combatants is inexcusable.
15 years. I surely hope hes allowed to work again after that.
Once more, brilliant work. Truely stirring, and loved every moment.
Also, dont worry too much about bringing it up often. Society as we know it today WAS, wether we like it or not, shaped by it and those who survived it.

Victor! Just one thing. Peter should be cleared by another face engine. This one should be a Great Western Mixed Traffic Engine, who, whilst pulling a train of Tanks and a couple of AA Wagons mounting two twin 40mm and during an air attack, he shot down two JU88's and severely crippled a third, that crashed near Saltford between Bristol and Bath. The pilot had a MP38 on him and he shot at the GWR engine and his crew and the tank crews. The Engine in question, charged the pilot and ran down the pilot. And that engine was visiting Barrow - at this trial! And heard the trial. And wanted to intercede. Only later in 1990 would he tell this story. To Peter and his friends.

@@nossta5242 - Peter was given a sentence of 15 years! Which means he wouldn't be out of Railgate until 1963. This charge would be on him until then. In most probability that would be a charge that wouldn't be revoked until at least some 60 or 70 years later. I just gave Victor Tanzig an idea of a possible storyline that could lead to Peter being exonerated of the charge in his later life. Victor is yet to tell the story of the Sodor Island in the 1950's or onwards. A former Great Western Mixed Traffic Engine could tell this - in HIS own experience of WW2. And I set it in the year 1940 and just before the Sodor Railway Platoon was posted to North Africa. For instance, one of the Castle class engines could be brought in. Named Dawlish for instance! Of course, that puts it a good 5 years before the offense Peter committed. I put it as a suggestion. Jev, understand this. I know a huge amount about the Second World War! Having read much of this! And certainly - having heard of Schindler's List, that gentleman was later cleared of some of the more serious charges related to that! Peter should have had a defender. Edward made a serious mistake and saw something that he shouldn't have seen, no surprise that Edward wasn't thinking straight at the time, defending Peter was not on his mind. Victor! You've got a suggested possible storyline for the 1950's or onwards! It's up to you to do so! One of Duck's former old friend should do so!

Need i bring up the American firebombing of Tokyo, which killed more people than the Atom bombing of Hiroshima?
It was actually a very serious issue right before D-Day, when Allied commanders were worried about hostility from the French due to allied air attacks.

Okay, so admittedly I actually did thought the episode was a bit boring, just due to the whole trial being a bit too long of defence and plead, but then it stepped up a notch and that rant from Peter was more shocking to hear than the police engines taking him away. Wow, just wow. That was shocking, but did it made me feel bad for Peter? No, he knew he did something wrong back during the world war. For that, I accept the fact that Peter will be gone for the rest of the season and possibly Season 4, as I think Season 4 will be mainly focused on the aftermath of Dieselisation and the steam engines withdrawn from the mainland.
I like the episode, I just felt it was boring in the middle, but the ending and seeing what Peter did, made it worth it. Great job, Victor.

Interesting the defence didn't mention the number of Nazi soldiers killed, or the idea of 'collateral damage', the humanitarian factors of military necessity, distinction, and proportitonality, especially considering the prosecution even mentioned that it was a key point for control of that area.
Obviously Peter's outburst would have voided this argument and that may be a accuracy level of depth too deep for a CZcams series but my question remains.
    What does everyone else think?

I think there would be better arguments of the tactical ability of what Peter did, without destroying the Hospital, the American troops would've had to deal with a defensive hardpoint in or near the centre of a town with tanks and quite the few number of troops, while this is late in the war, a tank is a tank and troops are troops, you still need to kill or rout them no matter what you do beforehand or afterward. On top of this this maybe a slight knock at Vic myself but why wheren't the Americans mentioned at all, Peter fired an American gun under the command of an American Officer, albeit disobeyed the orders of one, still received those orders from one.

Wow! What an episode, I think once the short clips were released, this was the episode everyone was waiting for. Seeing what Peter did, my jaw dropped, I was in so much shock.
But it does make sense because he is a very strong engine, he had to deal with Colin and Lily's deaths, the latter him witnessing. From the Stories of War episodes, he took a goods train back along with the POW coach that Adam pushed. That gun shot on the hospital was what kept him from being with the rest of the platoon the night before.
Also you got to remember in the Combat episode, Edward strongly empathised to Peter "DO NOT FIRE unless I give the order!" Peter's actions that night were very rash and impatient.
Having Mr Zorro back in for this episode was great too. It's a pity though that we didn't get to see what progress he made between this episode and when he stepped down as a result of cancer.
The trial was on edge, heart wrenching, gob dropping and extremely difficult to watch. I would argue this is even darker than the Stories of War episodes and I love Dark themed episodes that you've done like Ghost and Spectre. The ending really reminded me of the end of Sad Story of Henry.
You took a big gamble sending off Peter in this way because he is a fan favourite character in this story but boy that was a really well done exit for him if we ever see him again.
And then we have Arthur returning next episode which will give even more flashbacks of the Ghost story from Season 1. Can't wait to see what it will be.

Many steam engines were scrapped against their will Just to get rid if them . They all had “black water”. I think in real life an engines consciousness can be shut down, same as turning off a circuit breaker..I think the “off “switch is probably reachable in the cab.
Same shutdown which is used to put engine to sleep before big repairs. It is turned back on when repair done . When engines are put away they never wake up. .Thankfully engines put down but not scrapped can be repaired. I know 2 airplanes a B29 and a Lockheed constellation. That were given “black water “but were later restored and able to fly again. There is another B29 which was recently rebuilt in Wichita
Union Pacific brought back the Challenger.in 1981 .He had been like an inaminate object for nearly 18 years.before waking up.
The Big Boy woke up into a new world after almost 60 years. Must feel like Woody Allen’s character in the “Sleeper “movie in which someone wakes up into a hi tech world. The engine had never seen cell phones or computers or internet.

What peter did was wrong, but its better that he let the anger out rather than live out the rest of his life telling a lie.
