  • Just finished restoring and I'm getting ready to take it for it's first lake blast. I love this sled and restoring it was well worth it.

    I love that sound,I just bought a 81 9500 and got it running yesterday,300 bucks rather than 13000 works for me.

    Awe memories ;) My dad bought that very sled in 1979. Bored it out 40 though. Ported, Polished. Piped. NOTHING in that time period could touch it ;) I don't think much would if it was bone stock either ;) All those blizzards were fast ;)

    FAR nicer there than when they went to all black. Those sleds were absolute head turners.

    My dad owned the same "epic" machine once upon a time. Talk about a screaming 'blur of orange across the lake! Fondest of memories!

    Thanks for the compliments, I bought my Blizzard 2yrs ago from the original owner for $275 and I started the restoration which wasn't all that much. I got a high end paint job on the hood and had the hood reinforced with fiberglass at the hinge area so it wouldn't crack in the future. I knocked out the belly pan dings and feathered it with filler, sanded, primed and painted. Replaced windsheild and cleaned her engine compartment, repainted pipes etc. I have a sign shop so I Made my own decals.

    Wow, what a nice blizz. I love blizzards, especially the 9500 and 9700 sleds. I have a 1980 Everest with a 503 (496.7cc to be exact) and its awesome, 565 original miles, runs like a champ, doesn't owe me a dime since I get it running. Check out my channel, and watch the featured video. Any footage of it running except one of the cold starts is of it running on a fouled plug so it sounds like crap, but its an awesome sled, check it out! But man, what a beautiful blizz, I want one so bad.

    436cc or basically a 440. That motor was a rotary valve if I'm not mistaken. Fast for its day...

    I was lucky, I bought it with nothing missing. I did buy another windshield though. You can get parts on e-bay though if you look every day? Your better off to find a parts sled.

  • @sherb2
    @sherb2  Před 14 lety

    No, that is the original seat. It has the ribs. You can get seat covers that are smooth on eBay. I don't think that the 79 came with a ribbed seat so it should be an easy find. Good luck

    @sherb2 awesome sleds, i had a 5500...unfortunately it was fan cooled...but these Rotax engines were reliable.....too bad the suspensions were terrible back then.

    That's what I guessed. You don't see the '78-'83 Blizzards around much anymore. I've heard that the '83 9700's are very rare. They had the 521 rotax, didn't they?

  • @sherb2
    @sherb2  Před 14 lety

    These use a Bosch ignition system, external.

    Read post below first :-) I can find clear and low ...or tall and smoked or clear...seems weird that the manufacturers would not make the original style >: $ Do you have any parts kicking around? Let me know if you have anything you could part with. Nice old Blizz! Cheers!

  • @goudrelle1
    @goudrelle1 Před 5 lety

    These 9500+ ran better and faster with the 79 7500 setup in it, meaning the rotary valve, clutch setup.... in the clutch, you need to have the A3 arms and the cover cams and brown spring

  • @fivenineau
    @fivenineau Před 11 lety

    Hi sherb...your 9500 is really nice. I am currently restoring one just like it, although it needs a lot more than it sounds like yours did. I noticed you mentioned that you picked up a windshield for yours...where did you buy it? It looks like a factory smoked low (12 1/2 inch) I need one too and am having a hard time finding one.

    did you have to replace teh seat? Im starting a reasto on a 79 9500+, and need to find a seat badly....

  • @fivenineau
    @fivenineau Před 11 lety

    It is not a 503 or a 464 l/c...it is a 454 l/c. The 503 is what the 5500 runs and is fan cooled. The 464 is what the Everest 444 l/c and the 1978 Elite run.

    NICE sled. What kind of top speed did the 9500's have out of the box?

    • @42lookc
      @42lookc Před 2 lety

      I remember an article by Popular Science back in the day. They ran a 7500 and a 9500. They said they both ran up pretty good, but at about 80 MPH, the 7500 all of a sudden seemed to be standing still, and the 9500 pulled out "like the thoroughbred it is" and left it behind. They clocked the 9500 at 101MPH. Being that it was Popular Science, I'd call that both unbiased and pretty official.

    dude its a 9500, it would obviously be a 464 l/c unless you for some stupid reason cant find a 464. Listen to the thing, it screams 464, literally.
